  1. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3284&item=1948021156 These are truly beautiful! Located in Wisconsin. I can not afford these, sadly...Christmas? Happy New Year! Let me know what you think.
  2. Hey Guys... Just wondering... Didn't the Patrician also come with a 30" woofer version or did electrovoice have a speaker model above the Patrician? Also, anyone heard these guys? I know i have seen literature about an Electro Voice unit that was a wall unit with 2 channels...like a huge book case! The EV 30" woofers show up on ebay every so often...carazy.
  3. Damn! i knew i should preview this...i hate previewing. on fight clud the tracks I recommend are 5 & 7. Sorry, blah.
  4. I really like using the Fight Club sountrack. There is a track on ther with a great bass sweep with a lot of high end as well. Tracks 5 and & are especially good. I also think the Buena Vista Social Club soundtrack is really quite good. I usually try to test with a selection or two from each genre that i listen to. Mine range from the afore mentioned to Dillinger Escape Plan , Tool, Radiohead, Gorecki, John Fahey, but the Fight Club and Buena Vista albums are usually the best indicators of speaker quality. Oooh... I almost forgot, the Mark Hollis album is great.
  5. I use a felt mat and no clamp and it sounds great, however, this is only because when i clamp the record, somepart of the platter rubs against something else. I was given an Ariston RD11s with a Micro Seiki tonearm and a Sumiko Talisman MC cartridge and a Fidelity Research toroidal transformer...nice gift, i know. Anyway, it also came with this big old clamp made by Monstercable...this thing is like a "sit 'n' spin". Well, it weighs down the platter. Does anyone know how to adjust the suspension, so i can handle the weight or should I just be content with things the way they are?
  6. well guys...its too late now. some smart guy in germany is getting these. even with the extra $150 for shipping, he's only paying $900...of course, i wonder if it will cost more to send it to germany. does anyone know if it cost extra to get the FORTES with the biample option? i'll keep my eyes open for more deals. i could still use a christmas gift...fellas?
  7. hey guys! here is a link to the auction just posted (not by me). they are in new hampshire and have a buy it now of $750. have fun!! i could use an early christmas gift...fellas? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1945975739
  8. ok...well, i tried it. i was pretty much astounded. i placed the forte s on speaker stands that raise the front of the speaker about 6 inches and the back about 4 inches. it seemed as though the bass response almost doubled (if that makes any sense) and the overall soundstage widened enough to notice! i am going to listen to more music to see if my findings hold true, but if you are able to try this, i would love to hear what you think or if you have tried it, let me know your impressions.
  9. i was just lloking in my closet and found two sets of low(about6 inch) angled speaker stands and i should probably just experiment, but then i thought of another question. i do not have the forte's original wooden bases...mine came with the spikes on the bottom and one is bent. i have thick carpeting and was wondering if i should remove the spikes. do any of you fellow forte owners have them without a base? by the way, there is a pair of chorus II's on ebay right now listed as "KLIPSH" (misspelled)in case anyone is interested. any comments are always welcomed and appreciated. thanks for reading.
  10. hey MOBILE! i know i know! i have been concentrating on vinyl...they are ,indeed, mated to a ss receiver, but not a powerhouse...a pioneer sx-650(not for long). however, the leader is an ariston rd-11s turntable with a fidelity research frt-33 tortoidal transformer, a sumiko talisman MC cartridge, and a micro seiki MA505XII tone arm. i would like more info on the cartridge and tone arm if anyone has any...and if anyone has an amplifier awaiting a good home, i have a good home next to my sansui TU-999 receiver. HONKYO! "Horror Patrol" INDEED.
  11. thanks William! there is going to be a collective gasp, BUT i spliced some additional speaker wire together to give myself more room to work with and i have been having quite the work-out moving these two around the room. I was suprised that a minimal movement closer to the corner made such a difference in the low end response. oh, i AM the eager pupil and will continue my experiments til i cannot improve anything.
  12. ok so i tried this ridiculous idea o' mine. i don t think it is worth having it as a sub. it did add more low end, but my A/B-ing proved that there was little benefit. funny thing is, after testing this out, i am even more in love with my FORTE s. i repositioned them once again and they just continue to amaze me. i am so so , so so happy with them. I guess i ll just have to save the regency for the center channel whenever i get that whole home theater thing cookin'. thanks for the encouragement kenratboy!
  13. my cd source is currently an onkyo dx-1800 (i think its from the reagan era). but it is a hungry thing...it will play anything. when i worked at a record store, where you could listen before you buy, we had a whole box full of discs that wouldn't play on our NAD s, so i took them home and everyone played on the onkyo. anyway...i found the "display off" recommendation rather interesting. unfortunately, i do not have that option on the honkyo. never one to give up, i looked in my tool box and found some electrical tape and placed it over the display. to my suprise, the was a noticeable difference in the sound...it seems my onkyo sounds much better when i am not constantly reminded that it is an onkyo.
  14. THANKS OHKNATS!!! i didn t have enough wire to get ALL the way to the corners, would you believe that i am about a foot shy ? anyway, the improvement was immediately noticeable. my only concern is the distance from speaker to speaker and to my listening spot. 13 feet from each other and 10 feet from me... thanks again for the advice
  15. i was sittin' around listening to my fortes, thinking of playing a 20th century laserdisc and i looked behind me at my electro voice regency, which i am using as a really large and beautiful lamp stand and mail holder until i get a mono set-up, when i got the idea to use it as a subwoofer. i could just adjust the presence and brightness controls to mute the horns (i was thinkin') and run the speaker as my "B" set...hmmmmmmmmm. Have any ideas about how to use the regency WITH the fortes in any way ?
  16. thanks DABumann! i am using these primarily for music. i checked the back but i do not have my decoder ring yet 8941334 type FOR OO RV 951/198 <0619> <0710> i have no idea except maybe this means the model year was 1989.
  17. thanks JM! i just checked the back of them and they are 8 ohm. i guess i am still looking for the bargains...my whole system has only cost me $365. i am mainly interested in fairly easy to find used equiptment, probably around $300 tops. i had a sansui 5050 a while back and gave it to my girlfriend(grrrr). i do prefer the sansui to the pioneer that i am now using.
  18. this forum is the most wonderful thing ever! i just moved my forte I speakers out from the wall about two feet at the closest corner of the speaker when toed in...i have only listened to then briefly in their new position (i woke up in the middle of the night and had to do it), but i am noticing greater imaging. i am still trying to figure out if the low end response suffers at all from the new placement. what are your thoughts, please? has anyone found that magical placement that brings tears of happiness?
  19. i just bought a pair of FORTE I's at a garage sale for $225 and i currently have a pioneer sx-650 receiver. now that i feel content with the speakers i am using, i would like to find the best matched amp or receiver for them...any reccommendations? i have lots of vinyl. also, how to these compare to the FORTE II's ?i just bought a pair of FORTE I's at a garage sale for $225 and i currently have a pioneer sx-650 receiver.f>
