  1. Yep...the CCR album is in great shape...like new...it's an odd piece but sounds like a bootleg to me...interesting but not for the audiophile.
  2. Added 9/19: Creedence Clearwater Revival - LIVE EUROPE Fantasy LP-S-88-1/2. September 4 thru 28, 1971. Double LP. Condition is NrMt or better. The recording quality isn't great. $12 delivered. 1988 RUSSIAN Green Peace compilation. All the lettering is in Russian but the music is English and the songs are hits from the era: Pretenders, REM, Peter Gabriel, Sting, Dire Straits, Bryan Ferry, etc. Double LP. Sounds great. Codition NrMt or better. $8 delivered.
  3. I own a 3805 and have recently used the Denon mic and auto EQ. The changes were -5 to +7db depending on frequency...many under 3 in either direction. I assume this helps adjust for room conditions and I read is a very popular feature of the AVR. I seem to like the improvement but I can't say I've done enough tests to really know the delta. I do like the PURE DIRECT sound wich bypasses the video circuits. Above 80db in my room the sound can be bright...very detailed focus on the treble which can be impressive at first but tiring with time. I'm not sure if this is my room (Very possible), speakers or receiver. In general I would agree with most on this thread that Denon is more in the middle with Rotel and H/K being warmer. To contrast with a warm sound I heard DynAudio Contours with Rotel gear. This is much more of a back presentation that makes you reach for the volume knob at 80db and want to crank it up much more. I think the 3805 would be a good pre/pro with MC amp. You could then swap the 3805 for a pre-pro later. The Rotel gear is cool looking, great sounding and a solid value. Their CD player got a great review in TAS. If I wasn't planning on upgrading to a specific set of component I would probably consider the Rotel stack...although the Denon and new ELITE of the same price range have more features. For 2-channel I really like their 2-channel amp and CD player which can be found on Audigon $500 each. Now probably isn't the ideal time to buy a pre/pro with HDMI switching and digital HighRez I/O emerging. Anthem may have some future proofing though. Of course there's the digital amps in speakers with digital xovers and DSP....you can't wait forever and probably don't want to spend the big bucks the full digital Meridian system costs
  4. Has anyone tried the new KENWOOD digital receiver with Klipsch? These units can be had well under $500 and show that this technology may be the wave of the future.
  5. I put 30 lps for $40 for sale as an edit in my first post of this thread.
  6. What they should be worth and the price of new ones aren't really the point. The market prices are what they are and there have been a lot of data ponts to explore from previous sales....condition is absolutely key along with exotic wood and finish which can drive premiums. I recall some PWK signed Rosewood horns. I've seen some pretty pristine Walnut Oil horns. One needs to consider local delivery--if they are local then a premium is worth not having to pay shipping and risk damage. The forum gives you a free ad but you also get free feedback.
  7. I too have the Comcast/Motorola box connected to a Mitsu RPTV with component. The HDTV picture is great. I also have the DVR capability. Here are some comments: 1) Standard Def. Picture quality * the standard definition channels don't look too good through the box but you can get a better picture by connecting the box w/SVHS. The component connection seems to try to upconvert which makes it have a digital haze. * for standard definition I actually like my old technology 4:3 RTPV and glass tube 27" Sony with straight cable. 2. True HDTV broadcasts look great 3. DVR * my box has a drive that whines so I'm taking it back for a replacement. * The guide has ads and is harder to use than my Microsoft Media Edition PC PVR...you can only see about an hour at a time on the guide and the scroll isn't as responsive. * drive size is small -- only 7 hours of HDTV 4. You can't watch one program and record another Good news is that the box is free up front and with advances you get to upgrade for free. The cost is in the monthly fee. Since DVR is the only way to watch TV---you need DVR in HDTV. I'm pleased Comcast has it.

  10. CCR double LP Live in Europe for sale....pic attached. $12 shipped. Nrmt or better....looks like new.
  11. I have pictures and all lps in this thread are still for sale as of Sept 19.
  12. I wonder what the Rotel RA-1062 and RCD-1072 that TAS brags so much about would sound like on Cornwalls....it's certainly not vintage tubes but they seem to like their value and used the pair is $1k ($500 a piece) w/phono stage. They even tested with "Way out west" by Rollins...Sonny that is.
  13. Here are some comments: 1) The amp was purchased stock off ebay--seemed vintage stock 2) An EE friend and antique radio restoration enthusiast did most of the work. The parts list posted above was from my bill. 3) The amp was then taken to Classic Audio. Dallas, Texas for inspection. He found that a resistor was out of spec causing one channel to be louder than another. He checked it out and felt it was a good example of a stock Dynaco from the era with some newer parts. NOTE: The person behind classic audio was a tech at Hillcrest Audio back in the glory days of the kit Dynas. All the kits sold were brought back in and he checked out or repaired the build jobs done by the owners. He also did repair work on McIntosh and all the other popular amps of the day. He currently is a vintage gear repair shop with a specialty in record changers. He is well respected in Dallas and was recommended by someone on this board. NOTE 2: Classic Audio did a repair and check on my amp...he did not do the restoration and parts selection. 3) I sold this amp and bought the NOSValves restored ST-70 with curcio board and other work by Craig that he can describe. I felt this was a notable improvement and would highly recommend upgrading from stock... 4) I can ask my friend who did the original work questions if there needs to be clarification. 5) I sold all the tube stuff and went modern multi-purpose and have on order an ONIX Emotiva pre/pro and 7-channel amp which I hope will compete with products like HALO and Krell Showcase...another breed compared to vintage tubes....it will be interesting to hear what this provides other than a bigger expense and more switching and features.

  15. Most are near mint...some have some light signs of wear on case and CD...no worse than typical CD Warehouse used CD store. If there is a crack in the case it would be the exception...I'd have to look again. If interested I can dive more detail on the particular CDs of interest. They aren't low price due to condition...they are priced to sell.

  17. If you have controlled lighting then I like front projection better for a bigger screen...assuming you have the correct seating to screen ratio. Get price options and negotiate the price. Circuit city will under cut them on price....do they carry the same model? I did not like the Heresy on top of a RPTV for center with Cornwalls nor the blend with KLF-C7 as center w/cornwalls. The Cornwalls do have great dynamics for HT and are a great value given the space and ability to use three on the floor. I sometimes find the RF7 demo at ultimate to be a bit too Shrill at high volume for my tastes. I prefer the KEF Ref demo room at Ultimate which is over priced.
  18. yawn...reads like spam. I've been looking at Anthem AVM30 pre/pro or Onix Emotiva pre/pro and MC amps ($4k for stack)...I just can't image what a $6 receiver brings to the party other than flyover channel, effects channels, etc and bells and whistles. Would a pre/pro box be better so it can be replaced w/o buying 10 more amps? Maybe by then you'll want new digital amps anyway. From Denon I thought about a cheaper solution (3805 w/outlaw MC amp). I also wonder about that Kenwood digital amp that's getting all the giant killer chat.

  20. the 2900 tube mod is very new and I'm not aware of any long time users of other mods by Dan. I've read many reviews on different forums of users who had their player modified by Modwright, Emperical auido and others and they all seem to say it was worth every penny! Of course, this is High-end audio where the performance improves slightly with notable price changes. I think I will focus on Red Book and have the jitter reduced in the 2900 as a transport and then have the Empiracle Audio Turbo mod to the PT P3A DAC. I'll then add Speaker Only Correction Software to the P1A for the ultimate source! The PT gear has been running strong for years. I hope the 2900 can hang. It all starts at the source!
  21. Note that the modified 2900 becomes an audiophile 2-channel music player that will be valued even after DVD is replaced by DVD-HD as just a music player. For those looking for an audiophile 2-channel music player the modified 2900 is compelling at $1800 and at it's current price it seems popular with audiophiles as the beginning of a great 2-channel system (same for the similar priced Sonys). Since this thread may be more about HT and movies then the 2900 must stand more on it's video and the option of upgrading the audio is probably not a fit due to price. The 2900 seems to get great reviews for it's video section even when it was higher priced. This is not to take away from the other options...especially those that are much lower priced.
  22. I want one room for both, too. Here are my observations: 1. RC7 is not the best timbre match for Cornwalls. 2. Center is the biggest problem with 5.1 Heritage...unless you use another Cornwall...vertical Cornwall under a front projection screen would be nice. 3. RPTV are a challenge to sound for reflections and it puts the center too high....I don't recall what you use for a display 4. You can use a pre-amp with passthrough/bypass to a processor. This would allow you to use a tube pre-amp for 2-channel and a pre-pro for HT. 5. MOre expensive pre-pros sound pretty good...HALO, Aragon, Anthem, and up...I'm hoping this will eliminate the need for a 2-channel pre but then I have to give up that tube sound. 6. I have connected an AVR to a 2-channel tube pre-amp's AUX connection running all tubes for 2-channel with a tube amp and using the tube amp for the mains off the AVR....cool for awhile but I'm now going for simple. I've seen several heritage HT's on this forum.
  23. The 2900 has a few benefits: 1. It can be found under $600 now and dropping narrowing the price gap w/the 2200. 2. It is a great unit to modify and turn into an audiophile statement player. 3. Great video I questioned the value at $1k but as it nears $500 this unit becomes attractive--especially with the mod options for audiophiles. Of course you could spend double and get the 5900 with all the fancy digital I/O. The SACD-only ~$1k SONY Players that compete with the 2900 sound better to me--and especially with Klipsch. I also like using my HP Media PC w/9800Pro graphics card for video. I watch movies on the PC connected to my 55" Mitsu.
