  1. Alright, apparently my Youtube algorithm thinks I follow Paul now, must remember to use Incognito mode....

As usual, suggest muted, 2 X speed, with closed captions, there is no other way with Paul.

But, there is a nugget of interest, something along the line of Pulse Density Modulation (PDM) (DSD) vs. Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) (Class D amps).

  2. Train recording came out really well:  1 minute of freight train rushing by, then lone car passing opposite direction on the highway, ghost train at 1:30 mark, finally crickets to 2 minute mark.

When played really loud, you can feel the pressure wave from the cars whizzing by.

  3. Trains are kewl.  Always enjoy watching the freight trains go by.  Last weekend I was able to place myself very close right on the rail bed as a couple of freight trains zoomed by and I captured several videos of the resulting symphony.

The videos are anywhere from 3 MB to 111 MB, so I guess I can forward some for review to an email.  Or if someone has a shared Google drive I can access.

Just a phone video, but I was hoping to capture a good stereo image of the noise moving left to right.  And the crickets afterwards.

Still hoping to capture the couplers recoupling as a stopped train starts rolling again....

  4. Apparently the drone intro / transition from "Friends" to "Celebration Day" on Zeppelin III was the result of mistakenly erased tape by a studio tech who fled the studio upon realizing his mistake.  Jimmy Page called the impromptu drone replacement "Salvaging".

Believe the intro to "Celebration Day" can be heard on The Song Remains the Same movie.

  5. Um, which McCartney album ?  Really liked Back to the Egg, 1979, just when I started stereo and buying records.  And his Best of, all good.  Oddly a lot of those songs like Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey, Live and Let Die, and Let 'Em In   are way too sad for me to listen to today.

I need ELO's Mr. Blue Sky and M's Pop Muzik, happy songs make me happy.

  6. Yes, don't know much about schematics, but always appreciate voltage references.  Try to remember not to touch the ones with higher values when powered up....

Quick question:  Power switch:  Yay, nay, or optional ?  Both of my amps are one set with, one set without.  I always pull the plugs on my power supply, so the power switch is kind of a redundant second step for me to power up and down.

  7. Just found this, ( I only watch current Activity mostly), so quick chime in:  Nothing.  Helpful, huh.  Should be taking the BP pill, but since my prescription ran out, and I would need a doctor visit to rewrite....

I guess a multi vitamin would be good supplement to my crappy but steady diet.

Well it's in process, but really just try to avoid the stress, that goes a long way....

  8. Perhaps this is more suitable for that sleazy Lounge area, but I prefer to hang with the cool kids in 2-Channel and Tech Mods.

Back in the day when I was cranking the Zeppelin on the LaScala, I could not help but notice my phone would start ringing soon after "The Ocean" really got going.  I would quickly roll back the volume to listen for the second or third ring, but it wasn't there.  Well, it took a few listens to finally realize the ringing phone in "The Ocean" is on the recording, it is the phone in the control room ringing twice, I believe mid first lead solo.  So after that, rather than be fooled into turning my stereo down, I would anticipate.

Second, never really noticed on the original recording, but when Jimmy Page was remastering the Zeppelin in 1993, he mentioned the squeaky bass pedal in "Since I've Been Loving You", he could not get rid of it, and it bothered him still.  Well, sure enough, plain as day, Bonham's squeaky bass pedal is well up in the mix and easily apparent in the soft opening, now I can not unhear it.

I'm sure there are many others, Zeppelin and otherwise (No, the airplane droning off in "Black Country Woman" does not count, other than Robert Plant croaking "Nah, Leave it in" before the take begins.)
