  1. I got my 4.1 on ebay on august of 2002.. It was a great deal at the time! While Retail was $240-260 I got them on ebay for $175(They are new too!). You gotta love ebay!
  2. heh, If you have kids.. keep them ON! Those little hands could puncture the paper covers or they could poke it with a pen or something deadlier. Personally, I cannot notice a difference with them on or off. So I prefer to leave it on just in case some kids some into my room.
  3. Wow 4 years and still going strong... Enjoy your speakers hopefully for a longer time

They have given me a hobby I am proud to pursue till the day I can hear no more. however, my friend works at bestbuy and i was given the opportunity to avail of some yamaha floorstanding speakers for next to nothing. I went to bestbuy and auditioned the speakers, and i must say they sound REAL good for the price I was offered - better than the sonys, or the athenas, or even the lower-end jbls. So here I am, with 4 yammy floorstanding speakers (1" tweeter, 4" midrange, 6" and 8" mid/low woofers). They arent as good as the klipsch setup I have in my parent's family room - but I must admit that (with my present 12" sub, and a future center) - they do sound much better than my promedias. My promedias are going to my brother - i know he is going to love them. It is too bad I did not have the funds to make the jump to the entry reference line speakers (I really had my eyes set on the rf-15, rb-15, and rc-25).... I guess my jump to the reference line will have to wait a few years - atleast until I get out of college and make some real money. These speakers will have to do for the rest of my college years (5 more.... 1 more year undergrad and 4 more for graduate/md) - I must say, i think i'm pretty well equipped at the moment... still cant wait for my future system.... 2xRF-7, 2xRS-7, 2xRB-7, RC-7, and last but not least - SVS B4+ subwoofer. Anyway, I just wanted to let you guys know - I had a pretty busy day today, picking up the speaks and all... I just feel a little bad they werent klipsch though . Maybe next time. Boooo..... ---------------- Using another brand of speakers isn't going to the dark side.. using those little Bose cubes is.. I learned my lesson on Bose. Enjoy your new speakers.

That plate really doesn't cut it and I've burned my hand plenty of times on that thing. edit: mustang that's just the 5.1's, I don't think the 4.1's have as high a rate fo failure. ---------------- Don't bother with the heat sink, I am sure it will do fine.. If you are really worried.. move it to near a window so there will be more air flowing.

I have some questions for you guys. 1) IT BURNS!!! This thing can get really hot while in use. If it's possible, I'd like to put a better heat sink on the back because the metal plate doesn't seem to be doing the job. 2) Muted but still hot The back of the subwoofer stays warm even when my speakers are muted. This is normal because there's always some power consumption, but it's causing some serious heat problems in my room. Because my speakers are always off/warm or on/hot and my computer runs during the day, my room gets very hot, mostly because of the speakers. Is it safe to turn them off at night? I have them plugged into a really nice power strip, so I could just flip the switch on that. This ties into my next question. 3) Powering on/off I have some serious concerns about powering on and off. You're not technically supposed to turn it on and off all the time. I've only turned it off about 5 times for this reason. The most recent times I've turned it off, it goes "EEEEEEeeeeee.....THUMP" and then the light goes out. When I turn it back on, it makes the same THUMP sound, but louder. Is this normal? Thanks for all help as usual. ---------------- If it gets a little hotter or makes a little unusual sound.. it ain't gonna blow up on your face. Stop worrying about the speakers, probably the more you nitpick and worry about it.. the faster it will blow up.

I just upgraded my sound card to an Audigy 2, and want to take advantage of the ability to do 5.1.1. Is there anything I can do to add to what I already have? If not, is there a best way to sell my current units that are in excellent condition? I noticed that Klipsch sells refurbished units. Could I tradesell them back to Klipsch with credit towards a new set? Thanks Very Much For Your Help!!!!! ---------------- Heh, I got the same exact sound setup as you. Audigy 2 + Klipsch 4.1 is an awesome combination.
  10. Audigy 2 is also an awesome sound card, but it cost 3 times as much as the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. Having Advanced HD support for gaming, DvD audio support, and cleeaaarrr sound makes up the extra cash spent.

I have to say it sounds a bit difference than my SBLive - it's very balanced and detailed in comparison to that old piece of crap. I'm actually hearing a tiny bit of detail I never heard before. I don't know what's wrong, I can't put my finger on it. I'm also not getting low bass like I did with my old SBLive. the only thing I can think of is that I have my card set up wrong. How the heck do I set this thing up? There's so many controls, dang it! edit: on the bright side, there's a quality increase. It's very detailed compared to my old SBLive, which sounds muffled in comparison. edit2: Also, I can't find any of those special features like QMSS. ---------------- SBlive dosen't suck.

The fact is that you'll have to deal with it. You can't just go around insulting everyone who is wrong. Did you ever take into consideration correcting them instead of degrading their self-esteem every time they post something that's wrong. ------------- You suggest to people that corner loading the sub and facing it firing it to the room gives you the best bass response possible when this claim is proven to be false. ------------- This claim is simply untrue. I never said that and if you can find a post where I did, go ahead and try me. You and I both know that your should fire the port into the corner for the best "horn" effect. I didn't say it gave me the best response, I simple stated why I didn't put the port facing the wall, which is because (A) I want to keep wires neat (it's my parents mostly) ( There's a bookshelf a foot from the corner that would trap the port's sound inside there and wouldn't project it outward. ------------- You ask people about buying neons and hepa-filters and running your satellites without their dustcovers so you can show off your speakers to your little buddies. ------------- ????? OK, I'd like to ask what that has to do with anything. Many people like to do this and I thought it would be neat. ------------- you don't even know the difference between retail and OEM card... ------------- I love this comment, it's so useful. It tells me something I already know and functions mainly as an insult and nothing more. Going somewhere? Can you see my point of view? ---------------- Can you two just give it a rest?

Obviously, it has poor integrated AC97 audio. I want to find a good external USB Sound card to take advantage of my 4.1's and be ready to expand to 5.1 someday. Am I limited to just USB or are there any PCMCIA solutions? And what sound card do you recommend? Thanks! ---------------- I read this article in Computer Gaming World(the magazine started to suck now though) a while back, and they had this review of this external sound board called the "Yamaha RP-U200 CAVIT External Audio Soundboard Reciever" it doubles as a sound card and a decoder. I am not sure of the price.. but I think it is around 400 dollars.. a bit steep maybe. This is the only external sound board i know besides the Extigy. Try www.yamaha.com and do a search on this sound board for more infomation.
  14. If they don't make the promedia 4.1s anymore.. then I wonder how does it still sell new sets on ebay? All the retail outlets I have been to don't have em anymore though.
  15. I thought you owned a 4.1 set.. why would you need the centre channel plug for?
  16. If you hate it so much just beat the speaker up with a hammer. Or just don't touch the stereo plug in the back. Personally.. I hide the stereo plug wires out of view so people won't come into my room and step all over it.

At first I thought it was my PM4.1 headphone jack, but when I plugged my headphones into my card the hiss was definitely the soundcard's fault. There's probably SOME hiss coming out of the PM's, but it's so miniscule compared to my soundcard's. I don't get it, this is horrible, and it keeps getting worse and worse! ---------------- Clean the stereo connections at the back of the speakers and the back of the sound card with rubbing alcohol and cotton swabs and see if there is anymore distortion. Oh.. and lower your Master Volume in the sound control panel and make the wave higher. See if that helps.. try to set to Master Volume to 75 and Wave to around 95 and turn up your speakers up.

It's a "demo" version of the card that Dell ships with their computers. I once owned a Sound Blaster Live Value, and it sounded great. It was just a sound blaster live(also, NOT DEMO) sans the fancy software crap that I didn't need.

  21. yea sometimes i got the same problem, sometimes i fix it by cleaning the connections with alcohol. Other times.. it is the connections at the back of my computer to the sound card .. or.. it can be that the connections at the back of the woofer is loose.. it happens.

Plus, I won't have to put so much strain on my PM4.1 sub, and therefore not as much strain on the amp. Oh well, mustang or whatever you guys call him for short is probably right. I also have more important things to attend to such as a soundcard. I'm not complaining about the system, I'm just saying it would be great if it were true. At any rate, I'm going to wal-mart today and hopefully I'll be getting some of those neon lights for my room and a hepa filter. ---------------- Don't bother with the neon lights, they're annoying and won't impress anyone over the age of 15........ oh wait, I guess that's right up your alley.
