  2. Stiff, I looked at Madiscound. Thd do have them, they just call tme 2.2 mFd rather than uFd. That's wrong in my book, but it is the right cap. Look under "Catalog" on the bottom of the home page. Al K.

  4. Hi guys, The Cornwall replacement crossover network is ready and I have updated the downloadable design file on my web site. If anyone is considering building it, there have only been a few minor changes. I have made the mounting board a little larger for example. There is also a good top view picture that will help with the wiring. NOTE: This network design is only for Cornwalls that have the K77 tweeter.   5. Paul, YEAH! As my brother-in-law says "My name is Jimmy, I'll take anything you gimme!". The Cornwall network I am a working on could be modified to work in the Heresy if I had one to use as a test bed. I tried putting the exta inductor into the computer model of the Heresy "E" network. The results were inconclusive. I can't see where it does much. AL K.
  6. Yes, The T-250 just has a bigger magnet to raise the efficiency. I think it's just a T-35 otherwise. AL K.
  7. Klipschguy, Yes, you probably could just stick ar 245 uH inductor across the tweeter, but why? I don't think you would accomplish anything. The woofer inductor is 2.5 mHy in the type "E" netwrok. AL K.
  8. Hi guys, After a long series of email exchanges with Pete, I think we have come up with two possible ways to mount the networks in the La Scala. Either will do, but I think the best way is with it turned sideways and positioned very lose to, but not touching the side. This has the added benefit of keeping the woofer inductor away from the metal horn. I could cut off about half and inch from the side of the networks to make it fit closer to the edge but I resist doing that because it makes them harder to build and puts the Belle mounting holes closer to the edge. It would also require drilling the additional mounting hole Pete added near the woofer inductor. Al K.

  11. Hi guys, Here's a roughly scale drawing (I hope!) of my network in a La Scala. It looks to me like this is the best way to mount it. The way Pete has his munted puts the woofer inductor right under the squawker horn. I think the older metal horns might cause eddy-current losses in the horn itself when mounted this way. Has anybody tried mounting it like this? I know it will be a little harder to connect up the cable to the amp, but how much harder would it actually be? Comments? Al K.
  12. Tom, Nope! I need to actualy have a set of the speakers I am designing netwroks for here to test. All I have is Belles and a Cornwall. You see the problems I am having just getting a network to mount inside a La Scala even though it's vertually the same as the Belle! Al K.
  13. Thanks Ray! You have me worried for a minute there. I though the novelty had worn off! It looks like Klipsch has changed the LaScala dimensions somewhere along the way. I thought getting the mounting holes the right distance apart would be all that's needed, but it looks like there's some more things to consider! Groan AL K

  15. Pete, Thanks for the good report and for the feedback about the monting. Has any other LaScala users had problems mounting them? They were actually designed to fit in the Belle Klipsch, which has the network mounted on the other side of the squawker and there is gobs of room. Feedback requested! ??? Al K.
  16. djk, Interesting stuff. Thanks for posting it. Pete C, Yes, These were from the big 260 Horn on eBay. The drivers were all "doctored" by sombody. Half of them had "M" diaphragms jammed into them. They all has problems. One had a lead pop off the voice coil (this one in fact, look carefully at the connection on the right in the first pix). Some had metal chards in the magnetic gap. None were burned out by too much power though. Al K.
  17. Johns, Sorry I didn't see your question about measuring inductance. I though the thread died! The answer is that there is no easy way to do it. You either need a calirated bridge (inductance bridge or impedance bridge) or a capacitor standard and measure resonance. That method is not easy though. Al K.
  18. Alessandro, The AL-3 network is for the La Scala, but it uses the K55 squawker which IS 16 Ohms (13 actually). The Khorn uses the AA and AK-_ networks also using 16 Ohm drivers. Al K.
  19. John Albright, I can't remember numbers worth a hoot, but if you are referring to the driver Jim Hunter had sitting on the table at the Klipsch factory library, YES! Remember, the K55V is based on a PA driver, the Atlas PD-5, and is only a aquawker, not a full range driver! I wish I knew all the fine points of these things, but I don't! This is the first time I have ever opened one. Al K.

  21. Klipschguy, The function of both the components you mentioned are part of a second order filter (two parts). These work together to make a faster roll-off in the response. Weiming, I really don't know of any has all the parts, but there are severl you might look at: I buy my parts direct from Solen of Canada. They will have the coils and caps you need. I duplicated a B2 network once myself and got the parts from them. Al K.
  22. BobG, Ok.. You asked for it! Here's what you see right behind the diaphragm: Note the two piece assembly. There are two paths for the sound. This is the later production K55V having the improved phase plug. It can be identified by the solder-on connections. The older K55V has push-on connections and only a single path. This is a view down the throat looking THROUGH the bug-screen. The lighting is from behind (It is sitting on a flashlight). It is difficult to see, but that's the best I could do looking through the bug-screen. By the way. This particular K55V had a k55M ("M") diaphragm stuck in it by somebody who must have an I.Q. in the neighborhood of 50 or so!. It didn't fit! The "M" diaphragm is just a few thousandths of an inch smaller. It goes in, but you can't center the voice coil in the gap. It rubs against the side of the gap. If you ever need to replace a diaphragm, be sure you get the right one! Al K.
  23. BobG, Ok.. Will do.. That particular one has already been fixed, but I got another one I can open and photograph at least from behind the diaphragm. I don't know how to get the bug screen out to look at it the other way. If you know how, let me know and I'll do that too. I will do it later tonight.. AL K.
