  1. Mark, My dad's Marantz stuff got sold a long time ago. I got a lot more back for them then he paid but not like they are going for now! I wish I had waited a few more years! AL K.
  2. John, I suggest that you try setting 1-0 keeping the resistor at 10 Ohms first before you add the 8.8 Ohm combination. The missmatch at that setting is really very small and it will confirm what you really want. Al K.
  3. John, YES! Absolutely. The 2.4 mHy inductor and 39uF cap counteract each others reactive component to provide a resistive impedance to the amp. If you have an inductor and a capacitor in one channel (the woofer channel) the reactive slopes are not equal and don't cancell propery. The drivers themselves complicted matters enough as it is, at least the network can be right! Al K.
  4. John, NO! Don't combine parts of my network with parts of the original!!! The 2.4 Mhy is already on your board so connect it directly to the woofer and disconnect all the other comonents of the original network. If you have both L and C connected to the bass the network is NOT working correctly! Al K.
  5. John, Did you mean the inductor is not connected in the woofer circuit? That's required for proper operation. Do connect it ASAP! fox, Nope, I haven't doen a thing with the Reference series speakers. I don't have any to play with! Al K.
  6. Thanks for you critical ear Allan. It looks like I got them right finally! Al K.
  7. Puppy, My wife would have a purple-striped kinniption!! She claims my stereo room is ugly as it is Al K.
  8. Colin, You certainly can! Here's a guy that did just that and posted a picture just rescently: http://www.klipsch.com/ubb/Forum6/HTML/000365.html The only drawback to it is it makes it harder to get the network in and out of the speaker. I have to think about how hard it is to install them when i build one for someone else. If you build it yourself you can make the connections any way you like. Al K.
  9. Hi guys, Gaush fellows, I'm blushing! Al K.
  10. Puppy, It's easy to run the computer program and get a design to make a crossover for anyhting, but the problem is I would have to have the speaker itself to test it on! I would have to buy a set of everything to do that. I'm not that big an operation! Al K.
  11. Frans, I have used a Cornwall as a center fill between Belle Klipsch for years. It does act as a subwoofer to a degree, but I would NOT do what you are proposing. They help the Belles low end, but not like a good "real" sub. That's why I just bought a used LF-10! Al K.
  12. tljraj, Ray is right. I operate out of my home and I am a one-man-show! If you ever get to Salisbury, Maryland, you can audition my Belles with the crossovers installed. (Click on the little house above). The price is up a little now from what Ray quoted, but not by much. With low overhead I can build the networks for a pretty good price and still make out on them. Al K.
  13. Swerv, WARNING: You could face legal action from BOSE! It's probably their idea! Al K.
  14. Jeff, My Cornwall was made in 1985. Yes, I will eventually be building them for anyone who wants them. The price is not established yet, but it will be a little higher than the ones I am making for the Khorn and La Scala. This design has more parts. Al K.
  15. Johns, Thanks for the good words! How about taking some pictures of it? I would like to see how some other people build my design. AL K.
  16. Colin, I don't understand you question about the terminal strip and board. You are going to have to explain that a bit more! If you have the B-2 network, it's set at the same levels as my new design and should be compatible. I really don't know when the K51 squawker was used. I think the B-2 network dates it before 1985 since my Cornwall has a B-3 and a K57-K squawker. Al K.
  17. Hi guys, IMPORTANT NOTE: Since my earlier post Marty65 sent me the network diagram for the Cornwall II. The Cornwall II is NOT compatible with my new design. This is becasue of the lower sensitivity tweeter. You can tell which speakers ARE compatible by looking at the tweeter. If it has the K77 tweeter it IS compatible. If it has the k79, it is NOT. Al K.
  18. Marty, The Cronwall I have and that the network was tested in has a K57-K squawker and K55M tweeter. It had a B-3 network from the factory. Comparing the levels set for the drivers by the B-2 and the B-3 networks implies that all are compatible with each other. The B-2 and B-3 use the same transformer taps and therefore the same levels. The K-79 tweeter is slightly less efficient than the K77, so I am not sure what that will do, but in the worst case I would think you would be hard presses to hear a 2 or 3 dB reduction in level over the range of a tweeter. After all, what's 3 dB when your speck is +-3 dB at best and the listening room makes reality more like +-5 dB or more! I would like to see the Cornwall II network diagram if you would care to email it to me. AL K.
  19. Everybody.. Thanks loads to everybody for making all your pictures available. I just bought a Nikon CP950 digital camera off eBay yesterday so I won't have to mooch any more! THANKS Al K.
  20. Colin, That's a lot of questions in a little space! Anyhow... The price of the networks I will eventually build has not been established yet, but I wouldn't want to post prices on this board anyhow. Contact me by email in a few weeks. By then, everything should be nailed down and the listenings tests concluded. The B2 network is an entirely different sort of design from mine. I have used true diplexers which maintain a constant load impedance to the amplifier. This network also transforms the impedance to 4 Ohms. All top quality parts should make a difference also (Solen "Litz" inductors and polypropylene caps). The squawker is rolled off at a 12 dB / Octave rate which reduces the return rejected by the "P trap" by about 7 dB. The upgrade question will depend on what improvements I make. The only change I am thinking about is to increase the wire gauge of the two inductors in the woofer section of the network. The prototypes have used #14 and #18. I will definitely upgrade the larger one to #12 and I may increase the other to #16. Bigger is always better. The file was zipped using the standard "zip" format. Use DOS PKUNZIP or Windows WINZIP. As to the picture of the Cornwall for the web page, Yes, I just don't have a good one. The best I can do is scan the one in the paperwork that came with my Cornwall. A network for the Heresy is a possibility. In fact, this network for the Cornwall should work to some degree in the Heresy. It would be good for a center-fill speaker. The only problem is the bass will be reduced a bit since the Heresy requires more attenuation in the high frequency drivers then the Cornwall because its efficiency is lower. Al K
  21. Hi guys, I have finally gotten the design for the Cornwall crossover network to where I think it's right. It should still be considered a preliminary design however. The frequency response looks good now anyhow. Two prototypes are on their way to a friend for careful listening tests. The design is downloadable from my web site for anyone who might be interested. Permission is granted to anyone who might be interested to build the design for his own person use. You will find it at the very bottom of the "Klipch corner" page. http://www.web-span.com/alk Al K
  22. Fred... He's BAAAACK! What does Klipsch think of my networks? They're not saying! I think they realize I am not any competition for them, so they are just ignoring what I am doing. When I met PWK, I didn't mention anything about it! Al K.
  23. Marty, I get the parts directly from Solen: http://www.solen.ca/ By the way, my new crossover design for the Cornwall is almost done. I will be posting the design for download in a week or so. Al K.
  24. That company has GOT to be BOSE! They specialize in little boxes you know. Al K.
