Byt at $250 I dont know what amp to point. All theones I have in mind are well above a grand. ---------------- Thanks for reply . I think the M-audio revo card did the preamp thing(I did all the balancing there anyway) that I don't really need a preamp right now(yea running out of cash, that's why I got only $250 budget and that'd be a tough choice for having "cheap" and "performance"). I've read about some low end amp don't really support having dual impendence(8ohm and 4ohm) speakers. Is that true or just it's now history of the amp? .
  2. Hi there I'm deciding what should I pick for my system, reciever or amplifier, here's my situation: Mixed speakers with 2 surround speakers and center is now 4ohms and the front surround are 8ohm speakers. And there's only one source that I don't need recievers source changing function(which is just the computer). And I'm plan to upgrade the 4ohm's speakers into 8ohm's afterwards(so I think I need something that compatable for both impendence). Under the situation like this, what should I pick for my system? A reciever or just an amplifier?? My budget is around 250 or lower(really a budget config ). Thanks in advance!
  3. I heard very little static when I used 4.1. However it didn't affect the performances while I turn them on so I didn't attend them.
  4. if you are going to get the plug as well maybe get to partexpress, I ordered l6gauge 100fts for around 25, I tried them on Pro 5.1's center, Quintet satallites, 4.1's satallites and all of them did better than 16gauge cable than default/16gauge cable did. The thing is they are cheap like 17 or something if you are getting 50ft(that'd be enough for 4.1). One more thing, the gold/metal plug did the same to me. I'd be happy for silver color instead of gold
  5. Check the cables or the output from the subwoofer, either of them may be broken
  6. Another person that satisfied with 4.1(Got 2 sets of 4.1 and now another 5.1 )

The shield is typically a braded wire which surrounds two inside wires. Sometimes it is foil. The stereo plug has three connections corresponding to the tip, ring, and shield of the male part. The use of 16 gauge wire is really not needed in this application. Note that 16 gauge is thick, while 22 gauge is thin. It is difficult to connect thick wire to a miniature phone plug. Even though shielded wire might be best, three ordinary wires will probably work well too in this application. Gil ---------------- Thanks I was just stuggling how come there's three conductors in the cable while shielded
  8. k thanks everyone, I know what to do with it
  9. i got a question with this, what's the difference between shielded or not? Just the magnetic or? And I'm dealing with 1/8" i'm afraid they are too big for me(even bigger than 16gua)
  10. I know it has something like this but I don't really want to decrease the quality, sometimes I turn it into other device like headphone or recorder as well. Those extension's pluggin in or out would keep decreasing the quality
  11. I got a walkman that needed to connect the linein of the computer sometimes, but the cable I can find are not long enough for that. So I want to make my own cables for this. I've the 16guage cables in my home so this idea comes up to my mind. If those are too thick I'll get the cable not that thick as 16gauge. I just want to know the concept is working or not. If yes I'll order those stuff and make it up
  12. I need some long cables for connecting device into and out of my computer(like few meters) but there's no cable available on the market. Does anyone know I can use audio speakers cable(like 16guage cables) for making my own 3.5mm's cable by ending with making connectors on it???
  13. Btw what's the connection for 6.1 if using 4.1+2.1? It has front, rear, and now it has Center front and rear channel. It means there's no channel for subwoofer and it's integrated on either front rear or center's channel right?
  14. The reciever was a Kenwood one, I don't have the model on my hand but it's a old reciever. My dad used it for 4years about and I wanted to get him some speakers(Well those speakers on the amp are like 10years ago). I don't think he'll push the speakers hard because the environment isn't allow him to do so. After reading the last several posts, the hope seems comes again since I thought it was completely impossible while you said they might be overheated or even blow out. I think it worths a shot for that, well a pair of Quintet isn't really expensive but not cheap as well(Cry for college students ). I'd try it out and thanks you guys . btw the link is really impress me and I looked for similar site for a while(I don't know much about audio and would like to know more about before asking stupid questions )
  15. so I can't do both of them then , thanks for answering the questions
  16. ok I think that it won't harm the amp, but what about the speakers in those situations? Will they be broken? And what if I'm using Quintet as the Pro 5.1's front surround speakers temporary for months until i got another pair for rear surround? Thx for answering
  17. Ok thanks for basic information. I'm going to plug the promedia's satallite to reciever, however I heard it's 4ohm and the recievers are mostly 8ohm(I can't check now but probably mine is 8ohm, too) And I want to get 2pairs of Quintet to use on my Promedia 5.1's subwoofer later(after I got it on Tuesday). I thought it'd work but I don't know after I read the information about the impendence, so I'd be able to do them? Thanks and cheers
  18. As the title listed, will a 8ohm's speaker on 4ohm's reciever work well and a 4ohm's speaker on 8hom's reciever work well too? I just wonder will they blow and get broken or they'll work properly?? Thanks and cheers
  19. You can get left right surround but I don't think you'd be able to get front or rear difference. My cousin is using Pro 4.1 on PS2 thru XRGB-2 as well. But there's no front or rear surround decoding at all(sure there's no decoder or reciever)
  20. So which satallite's tweeter is better? Or they just look different?
  21. Excluding the connections 1 is mono phone jack another one isn't are they the same??
  22. well personally i think pro 4.1 has a price range of 200 i'll still recommend it to the others and getting them. If you think this'd be expensive, what about videologic's sirroco spirit pro? And a system with amp and speakers?
  23. I barely heard of them unless they lasted few years. I've 2sets of refurb my self and they are still working great
  24. Maybe you can ask for tech support why do you get a refurb stock as a replacement?
