If anyone is interested I saw a DD-5.1 for sale on ebay. It included a toslink cable and digital coax cable with it AND it has the REMOTE! I dont know any codes for the remote but one thing I did notice is that the Comcast Universal Remote for my digital cable box keeps turning the decoder on and off when I am changing channels. I have a remote for my DD-5.1, hope it doesnt break any time soon or else im SOL.

The buzzing promedias are not hooked up to my PC, just the DD5-1 straight to the speakers, Im not sure that the DD5-1 is at fault. I have tried many different wiring routing combinations to make sure im not getting signals into my wiring that may cause it. Right now i think it just may be dirty power gin my AC lines, when i turn on the promedias with the Decoder off the buzzing noise is extremely loud, but as soon as i hit power on the decoder the buzzing quiets down (not gone but not as loud), im going to try to get a power filtering unit and hook up my equipment to that and see if it makes a difference.

if you have digital cable you can enjoy Dolby Digital 5.1 on some channels that are encoded with it, all you need to do is hook up an optical cable from the optical out on the digital set top box to your DD-5.1, most digital cable boxes also have a SPDIF coax out too so you could also use this.

get some y-adapters and hook them into the inputs behind your promedias, then hook up the DD-5.1 and the Snd Card to the promedias at the same time, play music through your sound card using the analog outs and youre back in business.

Ive had the same problem you have. i hit volume down and input changes, or i hit volume up and the volume goes down instead. another problem ive had is that my Comcast digital cable remote also controls my DD-5.1 so i cant use it with my digital set top box because when i change channels it turn my DD-5.1 on and off. Klipsch should have made a better remote!

I've had the DD-5.1 for a while now, and yes voume is low whenever your listening to any AC3/Dolby Digital Audio and that is just the nature of how dolby digital works. DTS is louder but the analog inputs have always had pretty loud volume. I have it hooked up to my promedia 5.1's and for some reason i get a buzzing/hum sound from my speakers whenever i hook up anything to the RCA's on the DD-5.1 the only time i dont get the buzzing is when im using the TOSLINK/optical cable for sound going to the DD5.1, no one has been able to help me with that problem and i posted on this forum almost a year ago asking about it, no help from techs. Someone said it was a ground loop problem but ive been in two different apartments over the several months trying diiferent equipment with the same problem, however i dont get any buzzing when i hook the DD-5.1 to other 5.1 speakers (like a small sony 5.1 unit).

solution to problem 2: so you say that your Dolby Digital and DTS encoded PS2 games will only play in PCM mode, i had this prob too. heres the solution: turn your PS2 on and dont put any disc in it. when you get to the Browser screen you go into the options menu, find the audio sub menu and enable the Dolby Digital and DTS signal pass through for the optical out signal. By default it is off. once you switch it on youll be able to enjoy 5.1 surround or whatever on your system. GTA: Vice City sounds great with its DTS 5.1 soundtrack. Good Luck.

I personally prefer the Optical inputs, fiber optic cable is more expensive than coax but is less prone to interference. I currently am using a Monster Coax Cable to hook my DVD player up to the DD-5.1 and i get a buzzing sound which im told has something to do with a ground loop but wasnt told how to get rid of it, i dont have that problem when using the optical out from my PS2

yes theyre all plugged into the same outlet, will switching outlets eliminate the noise?

ok so i hear no reply from the tech's or anyone else, is this a defect in the digital decoder? if so then it definitely wasnt worth the 170 or so i payed for it.

so i went out and bought a monster cable digital coax cable and used that to connect my dvd player to the DD-5.1 but i still have the same problem. called klipsch tech support and they forwarded me to amy's voicemail, left a message but havent heard anything yet. so i know the cable is not the problem

swank is right, you got to mess around with the settings on your dvd player, make sure that the digital output is set to stream or similar in other dvd models, or else you wont be getting anything else than a PCM signal over the digital coax when you really want the the Dolby Digital or DTS signal being transmitted.

i have my dd-5.1 hooked up to my promedia 5.1's but when i hook a coax cable from my dvd player to the decoder i get a loud buzzing noise, when the decoder gets turned on the buzzing decreases but is still there. When i hook my PS2 up via optical cable i dont get this noise, i wonder what is causing it, is the DD-5.1 faulty? are my promedias going bad? could it be that i need a better coax cable? im real frustrated and would appreciate any help.

the question is do you want to spend the money. I have the dd-5.1 and its great, the digital decoding in the Audigy cards is not really hardware decding...its software decoding therefore it wont sound as good as when youre using a dedicated hardware decoder. you can see for yourself by checking the amount of system clock time being used by your cpu when playing back Dolby Digital tracks on the PC.
