  1. If anyone is interested I saw a DD-5.1 for sale on ebay. It included a toslink cable and digital coax cable with it AND it has the REMOTE! Just thought id pass on the info for anyone around here looking for the decoder. http://cgi.ebay.com/KLIPSCH-ProMedia-DD-5-1-Decoder_W0QQitemZ5838104720QQcategoryZ14980QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  2. I dont know any codes for the remote but one thing I did notice is that the Comcast Universal Remote for my digital cable box keeps turning the decoder on and off when I am changing channels. I have a remote for my DD-5.1, hope it doesnt break any time soon or else im SOL.
  3. The buzzing promedias are not hooked up to my PC, just the DD5-1 straight to the speakers, Im not sure that the DD5-1 is at fault. I have tried many different wiring routing combinations to make sure im not getting signals into my wiring that may cause it. Right now i think it just may be dirty power gin my AC lines, when i turn on the promedias with the Decoder off the buzzing noise is extremely loud, but as soon as i hit power on the decoder the buzzing quiets down (not gone but not as loud), im going to try to get a power filtering unit and hook up my equipment to that and see if it makes a difference.
  4. if you have digital cable you can enjoy Dolby Digital 5.1 on some channels that are encoded with it, all you need to do is hook up an optical cable from the optical out on the digital set top box to your DD-5.1, most digital cable boxes also have a SPDIF coax out too so you could also use this.
  5. get some y-adapters and hook them into the inputs behind your promedias, then hook up the DD-5.1 and the Snd Card to the promedias at the same time, play music through your sound card using the analog outs and youre back in business.
  6. Ive had the same problem you have. i hit volume down and input changes, or i hit volume up and the volume goes down instead. another problem ive had is that my Comcast digital cable remote also controls my DD-5.1 so i cant use it with my digital set top box because when i change channels it turn my DD-5.1 on and off. Klipsch should have made a better remote!
  7. I've had the DD-5.1 for a while now, and yes voume is low whenever your listening to any AC3/Dolby Digital Audio and that is just the nature of how dolby digital works. DTS is louder but the analog inputs have always had pretty loud volume. I have it hooked up to my promedia 5.1's and for some reason i get a buzzing/hum sound from my speakers whenever i hook up anything to the RCA's on the DD-5.1 the only time i dont get the buzzing is when im using the TOSLINK/optical cable for sound going to the DD5.1, no one has been able to help me with that problem and i posted on this forum almost a year ago asking about it, no help from techs. Someone said it was a ground loop problem but ive been in two different apartments over the several months trying diiferent equipment with the same problem, however i dont get any buzzing when i hook the DD-5.1 to other 5.1 speakers (like a small sony 5.1 unit).
  8. solution to problem 2: so you say that your Dolby Digital and DTS encoded PS2 games will only play in PCM mode, i had this prob too. heres the solution: turn your PS2 on and dont put any disc in it. when you get to the Browser screen you go into the options menu, find the audio sub menu and enable the Dolby Digital and DTS signal pass through for the optical out signal. By default it is off. once you switch it on youll be able to enjoy 5.1 surround or whatever on your system. GTA: Vice City sounds great with its DTS 5.1 soundtrack. Good Luck.
  9. I personally prefer the Optical inputs, fiber optic cable is more expensive than coax but is less prone to interference. I currently am using a Monster Coax Cable to hook my DVD player up to the DD-5.1 and i get a buzzing sound which im told has something to do with a ground loop but wasnt told how to get rid of it, i dont have that problem when using the optical out from my PS2
  10. yes theyre all plugged into the same outlet, will switching outlets eliminate the noise?
  11. ok so i hear no reply from the tech's or anyone else, is this a defect in the digital decoder? if so then it definitely wasnt worth the 170 or so i payed for it.
  12. so i went out and bought a monster cable digital coax cable and used that to connect my dvd player to the DD-5.1 but i still have the same problem. called klipsch tech support and they forwarded me to amy's voicemail, left a message but havent heard anything yet. so i know the cable is not the problem
  13. swank is right, you got to mess around with the settings on your dvd player, make sure that the digital output is set to stream or similar in other dvd models, or else you wont be getting anything else than a PCM signal over the digital coax when you really want the the Dolby Digital or DTS signal being transmitted.
  14. i have my dd-5.1 hooked up to my promedia 5.1's but when i hook a coax cable from my dvd player to the decoder i get a loud buzzing noise, when the decoder gets turned on the buzzing decreases but is still there. When i hook my PS2 up via optical cable i dont get this noise, i wonder what is causing it, is the DD-5.1 faulty? are my promedias going bad? could it be that i need a better coax cable? im real frustrated and would appreciate any help.
  15. the question is do you want to spend the money. I have the dd-5.1 and its great, the digital decoding in the Audigy cards is not really hardware decding...its software decoding therefore it wont sound as good as when youre using a dedicated hardware decoder. you can see for yourself by checking the amount of system clock time being used by your cpu when playing back Dolby Digital tracks on the PC. The dd-5.1 also has DTS now i know that the audigy 1 doesnt have DTS decoding but im not sure about the audigy 2, but still the sound will be better from a hardware decoder. ---------------- On 5/16/2003 6:03:19 PM Sc0rched wrote: Ok, I am in the market for speakers and after researching them I seem to like the Promedia 5.1. Im a little bit confused about the DD 5.1 decoder. Would this help me if I am using it on a computer, with a built in digital decoder? Is 2 better, or should I save some money. The sound card will be either Audigy or Audigy 2(not sure yet, still have to upgrade it from my Sound Blaster Live! 5.1). Thanks ----------------
  16. the nintendo gamecube does not have optical out, it has your standard left right channel RCA's, it uses prologic II audio streams ---------------- On 3/4/2003 7:30:51 PM Herer wrote: Well... ... tv is only broadcast in stereo, isn't it? I guess you could switch to pro logic mode if you wanted to listen to all your speakers at the same time. Personally, I like stereo in stereo .. the nintendo gamecube has an optical out, doesn't it? ... in terms of connecting the dd for pc gaming.. it depends on the game. if the game doesn't send a DD signal to the decoder, the dd isn't gonna decode anything? pro logic? :-) ----------------

I'm running WinDVD and tried using Star Wars Episode 2, so I thought it would swap over to a different signal. Should I buy a true stereo mini to stereo mini and then just put on an adaptor? Thanks ---------------- If using Intervideo WinDVD you have to enable S/PDIF output under the audio options tab in the configuration menu.
  18. Sony Wega TV's are great, i have a 32" in 4:3 HDTV Sony Wega Monitor, i've never seen any digital outs on Tv's but then again i havent been looking for such features like that ona a tv. Do you want 5.1 sound from regular cable television? the only way ive seen 5.1 coming from cable is having digital cable provided that the cable box youre using displays the dolby digital logo, then it would either have a coax or optical out to hook up to an external decoder for sound processing. The Wega TV's should have SRS Labs TruSurround technology and when enabled its not that bad, i've heard of newer technologies from SRS Labs such as their 5.1 Circle Surround which requires 2 channels much like Dolby Prologic II. if youre looking for 5.1 from DVD's then an external decoder and Coax optical cables and a 5.1 speaker system will be required. ---------------- On 3/9/2003 10:20:18 AM arkain wrote: Well, I own a sony wega tv and I though I had outputs but I don't. I only have inputs. I guess there is no way I can get 5.1 sound through this tv. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? Maybe get a vcr? Will that solve this problem? ----------------
  19. after doing reseach i also found out that the auto detect only works with older Dolby Surround formats... Gamecube does produce a ProLogic II stream but according to Dolby Labs' website you can still use a ProLogic decoder although it wont take full advantage of the capabilities of ProLogic II on the gamecube's audio system...the sound isnt bad at all...
  20. sorry to hear that! i bought my DD-5.1 back round october and ive been using it everyday for several hours each day... just last night 20 hrs in a row while on a gaming binge and its still going strong... no probs with it at all
  21. why connect to the DD-5.1 if you have an Audigy 2? The DD-5.1 is capable of Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS while the audigy2 can decode Dolby Digital 5.1 and EX 6.1 by hooking the analog outs to your promedia 5.1's. I see no real need for the DD-5.1 unless you want to watch DVD movies with DTS soundtracks on your computer. Granted the hardware preamp decoder is probably better than the Audigy 2's decoding abilities (assuming its like the SB Audigy which I have...which according to some online sources say the Dolby Digital Decoding in movies such as platoon do not allow the user to precisely hear the sound of gunfire going from rear left to front right) but unless youre a hardcore audiophile you wouldnt be able to tell the difference....
  22. According to the manual, the DD-5.1 should be able to automatically detect a Dolby Pro-Logic Encoded Audio Stream, but i still have yet to see this happen. Whenever I need to use pro-logic...for Gamecube purposes.... i have to manually enable ProLogic All PCM.... so my question is does the DD-5.1 ever automatically detect this stream?
  23. i have the same problem with my DD-5.1 and my second set of Promedia 5.1's the volume coming from the preamp is very low. My DD-5.1 is hooked up using an optical cable to my PlayStation 2. I dont know if DVD's have a low volume in general b/c my GC/64 are hooked up to the line in and aux 2 and they get pretty loud going through the DD-5.1. my other 5.1' set is hooked up to my PC with a sound blaster audigy platinum through the analog outs and they rock the house, i know its not my promedia's because i hooked the other pair to my pc and they were loud too. if anyone knows what the deal is id sure like to know.
