  4. Doh! My apologies; I should have remembered my own text! The thing is I got this amp quite a while back from a friend who had done some very minor maintenance on it which is what I was referring to. He changed a couple resistors in the Power Supply and a one or two coupling caps, but specified it would need more extensive restoration to be an everyday amp, as most readers of this forum will understand. In trying to give an honest description of the amp's condition, I was inadvertently confusing. Sorry again. There was a home version of this amp with the cage listed recently on eBay which had a starting bid of over $350. The eBay amp had a very pretty gold finish and a cage. THIS unit is a dull aluminum and has no cage, but the configuration is the same. Don't recall if links are allowed here, so I'll give the item number, for those that wanna see it: 5723390234 Sorry again for my errors ---------------- On 10/14/2004 1:25:42 PM anon wrote: From ad: "*This amp is in good working condition: some caps and resistors replaced.." 5. Hi: Looking for some info here for myself. Last week I picked up a pair of Altecs that look just like yours. Mine have no model numbers on them; there were labels, but no longer I understood the ones I have are Flamencos, but they look just like your Valencias. My question: How did you determine yours are Valencias; are they labeled? Thanks Dan
  6. Time for a bump! Somebody is gonna get one seet amp here! Don't miss out!
  7. SOLD. Thanks for the interest. FS: Classic Pilot 232 6BQ5 Power Amp NO PICS. Sorry *Console Pull: Aluminum Finish, no tube cage *~17 Watts Per Channel *These amps compare favorably with other classics like the Dyanco ST35, or the Scott 222 series, other 6BQ5 workhorses. *I would rate the cosmetics a 6/10 *This amp is in good working condition: some caps and resistors have been replaced, sockets have been cleaned. * Please note: This is a vintage unit and sold as such; as to be expected with vintage gear, as good as it sounds now (and it does sound good!), some TLC in the form of new caps, etc. would probably make this amp sound world-class! *What can I say? If you want an inexpensive entry into tube audio, this is it! *Sold As-Is due to age: buyer may audition in the SF Bay Area *$150 +shipping
  8. Yeah, but if they give you dementia AND make you President, well..... )
  9. Hey: Actually, I loved the idea of Ronnie being depicted in JellyBellies, not the candy. I think JellyBellies should become the official artists to paint ALL the Presidents! George W. ought to be a piece of cake (pun intended!), as he has a pretty straight forward face. Clinton would be a problem, as he would most likely EAT his portrait
  10. *Local Pick-up Only: in San Jose **$175 obo *Comes with original box and packing *Has record changer spindle *Has 45 Adapter *Has a beautiful wood base *Will play 33 RPMs, 45 RPMs, even 78 RPMs *Needs a new cartridge *Email for pics! *Can be seen and heard in West San Jose, near Willow Glen MORE INFO: http://www.compassnet.com/concept/tables/1219.htm
  11. Gotta put in my 2 cents' on this one: I've heard the Fisher 500B, did not care for the sound, and they are nowhere near as collectible/desirable/valued as highly as the 500C. BUT, you mentioned the Fisher 400, which, in my opinion, is a much better sounding unit, although not as popular as either of the 500s. My Fisher 400 is one of the last tube units I have I'd give up Whatever you end up with, ENJOY!
  12. I have both of these units at home, and I agree, the receiver is larger; don't think you can do it Dan
  13. Hi: I have a couple receivers I am interested in selling; maybe you'd be interested in one of them? 1.) A Yamaha R-1000. 100 wpch. A classic, high-power unit 2.) A Denon DRA-635R w/ Remote. 85 wpch. Has LOTs of flexibility, that great Denon styling. Both units have phono inputs, in case that's an issue? I was gonna ask $100 for the Denon +shipping, not sure about an asking price for the Yamaha. Let me know if you have any interest (Can send pics of the Denon; don't have any pics of the Yamaha) Thanks Dan

  19. Thanks for your interest. The Cornwalls have been sold ---------------- On 3/10/2003 10:23:04 AM kgmcraeiv wrote: Are you interested in selling your Cornwalls? Ken ----------------
  20. Well, I gotta put my .02 cents on this one: I called ForwardAir in San Francisco today to get a quote on shipping a pair of Cornwalls. I used the 315 lb. shipping weight cited in this thread. Lemme tell ya, calling that place was like direct dialing the Twilight Zone! The zombie who answered the phone repeatedly asked me something like: "You're shipping a speaker, not a motorcycle, right?" I would have thought that since I started out telling her I wanted to ship A PAIR OF SPEAKERS that would do it. But she must have asked me at least 3 times about shipping a motorcyle! When I asked about packing etc., she even told me "We don't have wooden crates for shipping motorcyles" THEN, then when I told her I wanted to use a shipping weight of 315 lbs. she came back w/ "Well, what shipping weight do you WANT to use?" "315 lbs, what I just said" "Ohhhhh...." While their rates are great, I hope their drivers are better than their Customer Service people.... ---------------- On 3/9/2003 2:27:46 PM m00n wrote: For those of you who don't know of this company, you can thank DeanG because he is the one who informed me about it. Anyway.... Here is their web site. http://www.forwardair.com/index.htm I called them to find out how much it would cost to have my belles shipped from North Carolina to Oregon. I gave an extra 15 lbs per speaker for creating and what not. So a total of 280lbs. She said without knowing if they would be packaged sepparatly or together she could only give me a close figure, anyway she said it would cost close to $115.00 to $125.00. WOW... I am hoping she is correct. I think insurance she said would be something like $6.00 to $7.00. A big thank you Dean! ----------------
  21. "pretty sure its possible with the newer video cards..." Exactly right. You have to have a video card that supports this option,(assuming you have a new enough machine to support the card), and it will have your connections etc. Check out newegg.com or maybe do a Google search to find suitable cards. While I have not done this my co-workers have and it's all about the card...
  22. SOLD. Thanks one and all. My thanks to Triceratops for giving permission to use his ad as an example, and to other posters (and Trey Cannon) for helping me clarify the mfg date of these speakers. As some of you know I am south of San Jose, near Gilroy, Ca (95020) I can probably show the speakers to anyone local who wants to see them before bidding.
