  1. As noted, any pre-amp with the RCA connections will work; if you wanted to go with the McIntosh pre-amp that was contemporaneous for the MC250 it would be the C26; From what I know, the C24 is one generation older than the C26 and the phono section is considered noisy, while the C28 is one generation newer and considered to have a quieter phono section than the C24. If you don't listen to vinyl I don't know of any reason, other than price or styling preferences, to choose one over the other.
  2. McIntosh MR-67 has great sound; Kensonic T-100 may not sound quite as good, but it's got better sensitivity which makes it more enjoyable to use. I have an upgraded Dynaco FM-3 which sounds pretty good, but its sensitivity is low which makes it inadequate for my area Which brings up one of the things I think is always important to think about in respect to tuners; it's not just their sound which is important but also things like their sensitivity and selectivity too.
  3. Black Finish All I just don't get it; I've run ads for these on local (SF Bay Area) Craigslist and gotten no interest at all. Does anybody here wanna give these deserving speakers a new home? The KV-1 is in very good shape indeed. These sell for ~ $60 on eBay last I looked. The KG 1.5s sound fine, but the previous owner must have spilled water on them a long time ago and not dried them off. The cabinets have water marks and some of the seams are not good. $70 + shipping for all 3. Zip 95123 Lemme know if I'm way off base with my asking price?
  4. "Why are we doing this? He didn't die or something?" Wait a minute; didn't Bob reply to this before the post above? Could it be rumors of his demise are greatly exaggerated? While I am sure Bob is at least as good as his rep (based on postings here about him and a single phone conversation I've had with him), if he works out a way to post here AFTER his demise (it should be a hundred years hence), then he will have been greatly underestimated.....
  5. If I read the ad right it's a single speaker, not a pair and I am not in the market for a single; I am curious to know from the more experienced posters if it's actually a rare item?
  6. Note: I have no connection to the seller: I am about 100 miles away from where the speaker is located. Is this really that rare a speaker? Seems to me I've seen other Klipsch speakers "signed" or actually signed by Paul Klipsch? http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/clt/186566314.html "Will consider all reasonable offers. "
  7. Shipping from San Jose, CA area; 95037 Zip From an Audiogon review: "The NAD 3120 is on the same chassis as the venerable 3020, but sans the tone controls, balance control, and LEDs. This is more of a purist version of the 3020, with less noise and blacker background. The NAD 3120 has provision for a turntable and can accept MM or MC phono cartridges. As well the amp and pre amp section can be separated by u shaped jumpers. Which means later on you can add a more powerful amplifier in the future. Has NADs soft clipping feature means if overdriven the waveform voltage so that the output devices are never driven into hard clipping. Thus the amplifier can safely be over driven beyond its rated power without harm to the speakers. There is also a switch on the back to set ohm loading at 8 or 4 ohms depending on which speakers you use. Uses 4 RCA high current out put transistors, that are usually associated with most manufacturers 50 or 60 watt amps. Has built in infrasonic and ultrasonic filters so amplifier power is not wasted on outside sources such as turntable rumble, floor vibrations, etc. The front panel from left to right is power switch with LED,then buttons, for Aux,Tuner,Phone,Tape,Mono,Loudness and dual concentric volume controls for volume and balance. The loudness control is not the usually boost found on the competition models. The loudness on the NAD 3120 is gently contoured to add just enough compensation to be truly useful." You all know the story: bought this a while back and have just never used it much. Recently got a used receiver and it edges out the NAD since it's got a tuner. I rate this a 7-8 on a 1 to 10 scale; not in bad shape for 20 years old Think I have a copy of the manual, and last time I checked I had the original box; will double check for those seriously interested. Had unit checked by a local tech last time I used it and it was fine. Thanks for reading
  8. Hello All: I was given a pair of used speaker cabinets by a guy who wanted to get them out of the way. They have a really nice finish in vgc. I would describe the finish as walnut. These are cabinets only, no crossovers, drivers, etc. They have a mounting board cut out for a single speaker (presumably there were coaxials in them at one time) Apparently they were going to somebody in Florida at one time but shipping was a hassle, etc. Interestingly they are almost exactly the same dimensions as Cornwalls; an inch or so off in any one measurement. I figure they have a volume of ~ 5.20 cubic feet. As I have a pair of EV 12TRXB coaxial drivers langusihing in the garate I was thinking of using those drivers. Interested to know if anyone here has ever had a similair situation: ie a Klipsch-clone cabinet and trying to decide how to populate them? Any thoughts? Thanks
  9. I'd be interested in any solution to removing the crossovers without total demolition: I've removed them with a rubber mallet and they came out OK, but I would not advise anyone else to try that Some interesting discussion on caps, etc. on the page below: http://www.classicspeakerpages.net/dc/dcboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=5&page= Enjoy!
  10. I've considered what to do with this beauty for a while and decided I don't want to go in search of a match: maybe somebody out there has another or wants a center channel. From what I've gleaned here this is a Heresy I: Drivers mounted on the inside surface of the mounting board Rear panel can be removed There is a speaker block connection on the rear panel K-53/K-99/K-77M drivers The cabinet is in overall good condition: a few nicks on the side edges and the bottom has a fair number of scratches but the other facings are in good shape. I'd prefer to keep this unit intact, so after studying what the drivers are selling for on eBay and noting that a Cherry finish Heresy sold last week for something like $175, I've decided to set the selling price @ $135 + shipping. Think that's a fair price all things considered, and not interested in any lowball offers, Thanks. Shipping from San Jose, CA. 95123. I can post pics if there is any interest. Thanks
  11. "They should ahve a phenolic block with screw terminals for connection, not a recessed cup with 5 way binding posts. Also the back should be removeable." Yes, it has a phenolic block with screw terminals and the back is removeable. Walnut finish Very impressive sounding too. Now, where to find a matching speaker? Thanks Dan
  12. Hi: Thanks for the reply. My info: Q.: Hi, are the drivers mounted from the front or back of the motorboard? A: From the back Q: What type of speaker wire terminal does it have? A: Don't understand the options here Where is this serial # located? There is a paper sticker on the back of the speaker with the info I've given and the signature of an inspector, Claudine.... Thanks Again My preliminary guess would be you have an original Heresy.
