  1. As noted, any pre-amp with the RCA connections will work; if you wanted to go with the McIntosh pre-amp that was contemporaneous for the MC250 it would be the C26; From what I know, the C24 is one generation older than the C26 and the phono section is considered noisy, while the C28 is one generation newer and considered to have a quieter phono section than the C24. If you don't listen to vinyl I don't know of any reason, other than price or styling preferences, to choose one over the other.
  2. McIntosh MR-67 has great sound; Kensonic T-100 may not sound quite as good, but it's got better sensitivity which makes it more enjoyable to use. I have an upgraded Dynaco FM-3 which sounds pretty good, but its sensitivity is low which makes it inadequate for my area Which brings up one of the things I think is always important to think about in respect to tuners; it's not just their sound which is important but also things like their sensitivity and selectivity too.
  3. Black Finish All I just don't get it; I've run ads for these on local (SF Bay Area) Craigslist and gotten no interest at all. Does anybody here wanna give these deserving speakers a new home? The KV-1 is in very good shape indeed. These sell for ~ $60 on eBay last I looked. The KG 1.5s sound fine, but the previous owner must have spilled water on them a long time ago and not dried them off. The cabinets have water marks and some of the seams are not good. $70 + shipping for all 3. Zip 95123 Lemme know if I'm way off base with my asking price?
  4. "Why are we doing this? He didn't die or something?" Wait a minute; didn't Bob reply to this before the post above? Could it be rumors of his demise are greatly exaggerated? While I am sure Bob is at least as good as his rep (based on postings here about him and a single phone conversation I've had with him), if he works out a way to post here AFTER his demise (it should be a hundred years hence), then he will have been greatly underestimated.....
  5. If I read the ad right it's a single speaker, not a pair and I am not in the market for a single; I am curious to know from the more experienced posters if it's actually a rare item?
  6. Note: I have no connection to the seller: I am about 100 miles away from where the speaker is located. Is this really that rare a speaker? Seems to me I've seen other Klipsch speakers "signed" or actually signed by Paul Klipsch? http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/clt/186566314.html "Will consider all reasonable offers. "
  7. Shipping from San Jose, CA area; 95037 Zip From an Audiogon review: "The NAD 3120 is on the same chassis as the venerable 3020, but sans the tone controls, balance control, and LEDs. This is more of a purist version of the 3020, with less noise and blacker background. The NAD 3120 has provision for a turntable and can accept MM or MC phono cartridges. As well the amp and pre amp section can be separated by u shaped jumpers. Which means later on you can add a more powerful amplifier in the future. Has NADs soft clipping feature means if overdriven the waveform voltage so that the output devices are never driven into hard clipping. Thus the amplifier can safely be over driven beyond its rated power without harm to the speakers. There is also a switch on the back to set ohm loading at 8 or 4 ohms depending on which speakers you use. Uses 4 RCA high current out put transistors, that are usually associated with most manufacturers 50 or 60 watt amps. Has built in infrasonic and ultrasonic filters so amplifier power is not wasted on outside sources such as turntable rumble, floor vibrations, etc. The front panel from left to right is power switch with LED,then buttons, for Aux,Tuner,Phone,Tape,Mono,Loudness and dual concentric volume controls for volume and balance. The loudness control is not the usually boost found on the competition models. The loudness on the NAD 3120 is gently contoured to add just enough compensation to be truly useful." You all know the story: bought this a while back and have just never used it much. Recently got a used receiver and it edges out the NAD since it's got a tuner. I rate this a 7-8 on a 1 to 10 scale; not in bad shape for 20 years old Think I have a copy of the manual, and last time I checked I had the original box; will double check for those seriously interested. Had unit checked by a local tech last time I used it and it was fine. Thanks for reading
  8. Hello All: I was given a pair of used speaker cabinets by a guy who wanted to get them out of the way. They have a really nice finish in vgc. I would describe the finish as walnut. These are cabinets only, no crossovers, drivers, etc. They have a mounting board cut out for a single speaker (presumably there were coaxials in them at one time) Apparently they were going to somebody in Florida at one time but shipping was a hassle, etc. Interestingly they are almost exactly the same dimensions as Cornwalls; an inch or so off in any one measurement. I figure they have a volume of ~ 5.20 cubic feet. As I have a pair of EV 12TRXB coaxial drivers langusihing in the garate I was thinking of using those drivers. Interested to know if anyone here has ever had a similair situation: ie a Klipsch-clone cabinet and trying to decide how to populate them? Any thoughts? Thanks
  9. I'd be interested in any solution to removing the crossovers without total demolition: I've removed them with a rubber mallet and they came out OK, but I would not advise anyone else to try that Some interesting discussion on caps, etc. on the page below: http://www.classicspeakerpages.net/dc/dcboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=5&page= Enjoy!
  10. I've considered what to do with this beauty for a while and decided I don't want to go in search of a match: maybe somebody out there has another or wants a center channel. From what I've gleaned here this is a Heresy I: Drivers mounted on the inside surface of the mounting board Rear panel can be removed There is a speaker block connection on the rear panel K-53/K-99/K-77M drivers The cabinet is in overall good condition: a few nicks on the side edges and the bottom has a fair number of scratches but the other facings are in good shape. I'd prefer to keep this unit intact, so after studying what the drivers are selling for on eBay and noting that a Cherry finish Heresy sold last week for something like $175, I've decided to set the selling price @ $135 + shipping. Think that's a fair price all things considered, and not interested in any lowball offers, Thanks. Shipping from San Jose, CA. 95123. I can post pics if there is any interest. Thanks
  11. "They should ahve a phenolic block with screw terminals for connection, not a recessed cup with 5 way binding posts. Also the back should be removeable." Yes, it has a phenolic block with screw terminals and the back is removeable. Walnut finish Very impressive sounding too. Now, where to find a matching speaker? Thanks Dan
  12. Hi: Thanks for the reply. My info: Q.: Hi, are the drivers mounted from the front or back of the motorboard? A: From the back Q: What type of speaker wire terminal does it have? A: Don't understand the options here Where is this serial # located? There is a paper sticker on the back of the speaker with the info I've given and the signature of an inspector, Claudine.... Thanks Again My preliminary guess would be you have an original Heresy.
  13. I have a single Heresy walnut finish S/N: 8413592 Anyone help me determine which version it is and age? Thanks Dan
  14. OK, so here's the situation: PLEASE read the whole ad Looking to sell a pair of ESS AMT HEIL Air Motion Transformers (commonly referred to as Heil Tweeters). These tweeters weigh 7.5 Lbs. EACH! They are really something. $75 for the tweeters + Shipping from 95037, CA. Cabinets are in GREAT condition; beautiful walnut finish ! Grill frames are solid; grill cloth material will need to be replaced due to age The tweeters are presently installed in a pair of ESS Eclipse M-102 speakers; I would be HAPPY to sell the complete speakers to a local buyer (SF Bay area), or to any non-local who wants to pick them up. Not looking to ship. Can negotiate a price for serious buyers for the complete speakers Speakers are BIG: 42" High, ~80 Lbs. EACH. They have 10" active woofers AND 10" Passive Radiators CURRENTLY the surrounds for the woofers and passive radiators need to be replaced. I can offer the complete speakers AS-IS for a negotiated price, OR I can put the buyer in touch with a reliable local repair shop who can re-edge them (reasonably) AT THE BUYER'S EXPENSE, so the buyer could pick them up from the repair facility ready to go! Any questions please advise Thanks WHY aren't my pics loading? Anybody?
  15. What's your asking price, or did I miss it? Thanks

An obvious, large bronze-and-silver motor housing on the woofer makes the EV 15WK a near certainty, and you should be able to see an "EV 15W" (the "K" is often a barely visible add-on stamping). You should be able to read the speaker's designator on the rear cap. Likewise, move up to the midrange -- if it has a bulbous rear, it's most likely a University SAHF. If a flat rear, you should be able to read some sort of K-55. Look at the tweeter rear -- a bronze-colored EV T-35 is likely. Others on the forum know how to get inside if you need to. Try the flashlight-and-peek method first. Larry ---------------- Most of the Aristocrats would have 12" woofers rather than 15". The typical set up was a SP12B woofer with a T35B tweeter and an X36 two-way crossover. The most likely upgrade would be an SP12 woofer with a T35 tweeter and the same crossover, although there were some unusual ones with a midrange. If there is only (level control) knob(s) on each cabinet it's a two-way system; if there are both a Brilliance and a Presence knob it looks like a three-way system. I can't see any pics of the speakers in question in the page, only a link to another page with some different Aristocrats. What finish are these?
  17. "aristocrats were produced in various models from coax single driver models to full "three way" speakers..." My two cents on this: I have owned original Cornwalls and the Aristocrats are a different animal; it's not really correct to compare them. Aristocrats: 12" Woofer vs. Cornwalls: 15", Cornwalls much larger, heavier (>100 lbs each vs. 40 lbs each for the most common Aristocrat configuration). The Aristocrats do what they do pretty well; they are very good in reproducing voice in a very natural manner, something that is unusual. The Aristocrats pre-date stereo; they go back to the days of monophonic Hi-Fi which is why I think you see so many Aristocrat singles. IF you have a single Aristocrat they are hard to find an exact match because of the many flavors of Aristocrats there were. This holds true for many of the Electro-Voice speakers of that vintage. I still like the Aristocrats, but not so much in the most common configuration I have seen, which was an SP12B woofer ( 1 lb. magnet structure) and a T35B tweeter (per EV literature should only be used with amps up to 20 wpc). The SP12B woofer does not give all that much bass; room placement is critical when playing an Aristocrat with the SP12B. Tweeter output from the T35B is not all it could be either. I much prefer the sound of the T35 tweeter. The only difference between the T35 and the T35B cited in the EV literature is the difference in power handling but to my ear and some of my Electro-voice afficianado friends the T35 has a much more open sound that makes a smoother transition across the midrange. I think the Aristocrats with T35 tweeters, and an SP12 woofer a better sounding speaker. The 12TRXB has essentially a version of the T35B tweeter mounted on the woofer; I have not heard it in an Aristocrat The 12TRX essentially has a version of the T35 tweeter mounted on the woofer: I have not heard it, but am advised that it can be a bit bright. In my opinion, the Aristocrats in any configuration do a great job on voice reproduction; very natural sounding; I currently have one Aristocrat with the SP12B/T35B configuration which I have had occasion to compare to speakers costing Thousands of dollars a pair. The Aristocrats were, not suprisingly, not as good as the very expensive speakers, but they held their own pretty well for such an old design. What I would be interested in hearing is from any posters who have tried using a T35 tweeter with a Cornwall; I've heard from audiophiles who have simply placed a T35 on top of Altecs using caps for a xover and have been very impressed with the results. The Altecs, imo, rely too much on their horn mid-ranges and fall down on the highs. The Electro-Voice tweeters bridge that problem nicely.
