  1. Yep, that's the same thing I'm experiencing. Take a good 300B amp with a quality source, throw in a large treated room and some well recorded jazz, I just don't think one could do better at anywhere near the cost.
  2. My Question is what is your room size? The CW's may be a better fit for your room. I have CW2's and replaced them with AL5's. My room is 25 by 30' with high ceilings and room treatments. I use the Aric Audio 300B and two Rel 1510. Even without the Rel's 95% of the jazz I like sounded great. Subs will not fix every problem. The room is my guess in what needs to be looked at.
  3. Well,, now that you ask, yes, they dethroned my Cornwall 2's. For the record, I'm really not a huge fanboy of Klipsch but I do love SET amps and high efficiency speakers. I got the AL5's about 7-8 months ago and I'm very happy with them, no complaints at all, a great value for my 25 by 30' room. I wanted focal grand utopia's (yea right) but with my beer budget was compelled to get either La Scalas or K horns. FWIW, I went in with full intention of getting a pair of rel subs later on which I did but,, without the rel's I was fully content. The bass was (is) plenty for the jazz I listen to.Sure the sub's give a bit more but stand alone AL5's in my room floored me with their range in the low's. I play guitar and well know when the low E bass note at 41 hz and lower notes than that, you both hear and feel them and question who wrote the specs for these speakers. I admit I have them in close proximity to corners, still I was shocked. I have another system in another room and like other speakers but the Klipsch ain't goin nowhere.
  4. They are quite attractive! I wanted black but got a good deal on walnut.
  5. Actually, I thought the gold lion tubes were really nice and without reinserting them for comparative analysis it's difficult to say. $1500 is a substantial (for me) investment for two power tubes. I am very happy with the WE's but I don't think they are absolutely necessary. If one considers the 40,000 hour estimated lifespan, it's not that bad in the long run though.
  6. I'm guessing the term "endgame" in the audiophile world actually translates to around six months to maybe 4-5 years? We must give pause at least outwardly, to the insatiable desire to get to that next level by using this rationale. The wife says there's two holes in daddy's head where all the money goes. Shakey; I feel you on that mid rich dynamic range on the 300. I have the WE's in mine which really shine after 2-300 hours. I look forward to streaming jazz every night. I almost never watch TV anymore.
  7. Thanks henry. Yes Shakeydeal, I also have the super 6sn7 line stage. It's really opened up lately, a wonderful combo.
  8. I have the same amp with La Scala AL5's, absolutely end game for me.
