  1. A thermostat is not unlike a Variac. Variacs are fun (and easy) to use. I love them.
  2. I must say Sir Parrot was being polite with this one. I HATED that Crown POS.
  3. For your information, Canada starts West of Montreal. Seems there is also some patch of Canada here and there near the Atlantic Ocean.
  4. In my case, lack of sex due to a newborn baby might play a role... Now you wanna piece of me!!!
  5. I must admit I'm a world reference when it comes to good taste.
  6. You mean the one amp with the ugliest powder coating job I ever saw?
  7. No wonder I'm voting for the Bloc Québécois on the federal level, a party that wants to abolish monarchy.
  8. C'mon Paul, the "Not Another Defect! 3120" is a bit like a Cambridge Audio, the type of amp that you'll be able to buy for rather cheap and won't make you run out of the room for aspirins. I've heard a couple of Gain Clone that were pretty good surely better than this NAD. Other pretty horrible it must be said... This being said, if you were going for a showdown with Irishman Tommy, I'll just stand back and enjoy the firework!
  9. Well be it a flat earth or a round earth, V = RI is hard to ignore in the electronic world. Be it in a stationary regime or a transitional regime.
  10. Ever heard about a slow blow fuse? Or that's techno babble...
  11. Really well schematized info. Where did you find this?
  12. In the case of Patricia Barber, the bottom of the list is still too close for comfort. Obliteration from the list is quite better.
  13. I wish LPs would suck. I really do...
  14. You can say this again! The room definitively make or break the khorns. While I miss the rosewood beauties for their look, I could never manage to make them fit in. Your Cornwalls fared better in my living room but had to wait beig hauled in the room in the attic to really show what they could do! They can do a lot let say! Holy holographic imaging! I'm not ruling out giving a 2nd chance to khorns when my workshop will be transformed into a living room. But will I really need a 3rd system in the house?
  15. You could actually increase quite a bit the operating points and still have no problem. The PSU of the Moondog is able to be ramped up by a large margin. Actually you could boost the operating point to a 300B level and your JJ tube won't finch. I'm pretty sure Erik Mandaville, being such a nice guy, will be happy to do it for you for free so he'll finally hear a 300B.
  16. Do you have the integrated version, if so, forget about a preamp. If not go and see Michel Vanderbroech at Coup de Froudre and beg him to build him his preamp/phonostage. I guess it would be in that price range. From what I've heard, you can't have any better. Give a phone call to Robert Lamarre from RLAcoustique so you can try your Tenor with his Lamhorns. He lives in St Bruno, maybe 20 minutes from Montreal. As I said earlier, from 100 Hz and up, the Lamhorns are amongst the best you can find. Klipsch heritage, as good as they are are simply no contest in this register. If they could reach 30 Hz, they would be just perfect. A good sub will be required if you want bass.
  17. Thanks for the offer Jazzman but the crossborder dealing is a bit of a pain. I guess I'll have to rely on Kelly's ear for an evaluation. I took a closer look at the load lines of this tube. These are identical to their 300B. So I guess they just "pulled a TJ" on a 300B and made it run on 2.5V. That can cose some problem in a direct coupled amp because of the large shift in operating points. It can also create some problems if the amp driver stage cannot swing the additional voltage because the power tube is biased at close to 70V instead of the previous 50V.
  18. Well assuming you bought them 2nd hand, the first seller probably lost much more than what Steve paid for his pair of 2A3 monoblocks. But I'm the first to admit that I'd listen to the Tenors OTL instead of my own amps!
  19. I liked their first batches of production. These were actually amongst the best 300B clones or "quasi-equivalents". Sadly, along the way, they changed the mechanical layout of the tube and they lost a lot of their sonic quality. According to me of coarse.
  20. Speaking of the Linn LP-12, Frédérique is still waiting for her birthday present from Uncle Kelly.
  21. I wonder why JJ called this a 2A3. In no way it is. The only common point is that the filament runs at 2.5V @ 2.5A like a 2A3. For the rest, it's totally different. Especially the 40 W of plate dissipation instead of 15W. Don't get me wrong, it can replace a 2A3. But It's not even a close equivalent. Until one would consider that a EL34 is an equivalent of a KT88...
  22. It that's amongst the best powder coating you've ever seen, I suggest you have an appointment with an optometrist A.S.A.P. I'd rate it amongst the worst I've seen. Unless the "see through" effect was wanted, it looks like a botched job. Rest is cool though. If you like the retro art deco look.
  23. No time bomb here. In my case, at that ridiculously low price, I'd wouldn't even bother to suffer the pain of shipping an amp. I don't know why he bother making amps. He's making pocket money by doing so. I'd be rather curious to know what Craig doesn't like about this amp. Especially for the price we're talking about here.
  24. Robert Lamarre is a good friend of mine. Ole Bob did hit quite a home run also with his Lamhorns. If you can live without much before 50 Hz, the Lamhorns are a suberb speaker. I actually don't know many other speaker that come close to it above 100 Hz. The brain behind the Tenor, Michel VandenBroech, is another great guy. He is, in my book, THE tube genius. His "harmonic balancing" circuit is quite genius.
