That's either: pure crap magic refering to output power as peak instead of RMS I'd vote for 1 or 3.

You got to love those texans... Do you have a "better be dead than be red" bumper sticker? -
As a "separatist b_astard" I won't argue.

It is really bad if your components are far apart.

No No No... Music preference is like food preference. You can't judge! ...except for Dean who really listen to pure crap.

Chinese food? You're so yesterday! Think Italian man! BTW ain't it spelled Kung Pao? I'll ask Craig. I still have a close relative of the Horus right now if it can make you happy. -

You're too kind. In my case I did think about a sandwich. The one you will find squashed on the bottom of an American Airline lunch bag if you're travelling in cattle class. Some seems to enjoy though. -

I'm not sure I understand. Maybe it's time for another food preference analogy? -
Is a small SET amp too powerful (for anyone)?
Painful Reality replied to Parrot's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
High power SET comes with some problems. You'll have to use a large airgap in order to deal with the high standing current going through the OPT (unless you use OPT the size of a battleship). Having a large airgap will greatly diminish the inductance of the primary winding. This will result often is a rather weak bass. There is no free lunch. I think that if someone wants/needs (whatever...) more than 10 W, he should go PP. In my case, I still have to hear a high power SET that I 'll like. -

You're about the last guy on Earth I'd consider taking an audio advice from but in this particular case, I'd tend to agree with you. -

I have nothing more of value to add since I realised that the audio hobby is a pretty stupid one. In the end, after spending a fortune to recreate that "live, unamplified music" thing in your living room, the final cost will be much more than buying a lifetime subscription to the city orchestra. Now if you excuse me, I have some Pat Metheny records to destroy while enjoying my Chinese food. -

Now THAT explains everything. What went across your mind to do such a thing? You lost a bet? -

Actually the euphoric distortion occurs when you listenig to music at full blast while being drunker than a pollock. -

Great music is everywhere so a working definition is not an easy task. It's definitively easier to define what is not great music. On the top the official list is Pat Metheny and his kind of hotel bathroom pseudo-jazz. The Rippingtons come in 2nd. In a related note, Indian curry sucks. Chinese is the way to go. Everybody with some taste knows this. -

Kelly is going through a difficult time since he lost his principal source of income, which was taking care of Rick Santorum's web site. I think he sold his condo and is now living in one of his Cornwalls. Now he wish he had bought my khorns when I offered him sometime ago. -

Well, 70% of the audio people are probably clueless anyway. Take the case of the klipschorns, how many stupid room setups did you see around here? A freakin lot if you ask me. My take on low power SETs? A good one can be absolutely great for jazz. I still use one for most of my jazz listening. I didn't find a lot of amps that could render jazz with such naturalness as a good 2A3 or 300B SET (except for my ex-Tenor Audio OTL). OTOH I've hated all 45 SET amps I've heard with a passion (they seems to all find in the "hear hear don't I have great deeeeeetails or what"). I don't think a low powered SET is well suited for orchestra unless the room is VERY small (though I heard a really nice setup of SET complemented with a sub). It's definitively not suited for loud rock. Anyway, there is a simple audio rule: If you have only one system, you're a freakin moron. Oh wait, there is another one: If you're trying to setup a 5.1 channel that can play great music, you're an even bigger moron. This being said, if anyone is interested in a Bogen MO100A, there one sitting in the snow in front of my house waiting to be picked up by the garbage man... Better act fast! -

"deliver the music the way it was intended by the artist" Don't you guys ever get tired about using cliche over cliche?
