  1. Bob, thank you for taking charge here. Please let us know.
  2. How about a Crown DC300A 155 watts into 8 ohms vintage amp????
  3. I seconded the flowers idea. Does anyone live close?
  4. Heys guys I just looked up the specs on the Crown K1 and K2. A couple of questions the K5 has 500 watts into 8 ohms and the K1 has 350 into 8 ohms. Wouldn't the K1 be more than enough? And at $1,200.00 which is ok, do you think we should consider some audio amps? Just thinkin here.
  5. The only thing is these speakers don't need much power at all. In fact their rated at 100 watts it's hard to find a PA amp in that range.
  6. He will be missed, Lynnm and his family will be in our prayers
  7. Drwho, thanks for your input as well. My room is about 25' by 25'. We have acoustic (egg crate) treatment on the ceiling and front and back walls for sound reflection. The floor is 1/2" thick rubber wall to wall. Since we are only hobbyists the room is going to be more of a fun room than a studio. We are planning to build a bar in there etc. I use the room for practice and when we have friends over we play music (everyone want to be a singer GEESCH). What I was trying to accomplish was a dual purpose sound system based on the LaScalas. We need a mixer for the band and a GOOD pre for the stereo in the room. The Allen & Heath looks like a good piece. In between playing I have always had a hard time listening to music through the PA. We use to have a Yamaha 10 channel and Yamaha club 5 speakers. Although good for bands they sounded terrible for recorded music. Soooooooo I picked up the LaScalas and plan to build a dual purpose system with both applications being equally important. One of my tweeters is blown in the LaScalas and I'm going to have Bob Crites rebuild them with his new version as well as replace the old crossovers with one of his new ones. I will probably even put a good used DAC in the system. I have had good results with the Teac 700p on my K-Horns, so if tubes are not going to work (wish they would) what do you think of getting the Allen & Heath or a mixer of equal or better quality and a pro Digital amp? Or would it be just as good to get a powered mixer (if so what do you guys think would sound the best without getting into stupid money)? Its always fun researching this stuff and shopping for a system. Guy
  8. Duke heres the ebay item number to the fender 160 with speakers your talking about 7364688501
  9. Marvel, thanks the 8/2 valve mixer would be perfect. If they write back to you let me know how much it is. I bet the price is out of sight though, don't you?
  10. I do appreciate your help and opinons. I have no fixation with a tube mixer, I just thought with 104 db eff. speakers I might be able to get away with a tube mixer. And I thought it would be a fun journey. I had very good results with the teac tri path amp on my k-horns and I know the Behringer stuff is Class D, probably Yamaha and rest of them now as well. I will probably get one of those and continue looking around. What you say makes a lot of sense but lightin up a little
  11. I may just buy a Behringer or a yamaha and wait for a vintage tube mixer to come up for sale.
  12. "simple to use right up your alley" ?? What the hell? Ah, well, um, cool it will be easier than finding the standard deviation of a multi asset portfolio then. In all seriousness simple is fine actually preferable but unless I at least check out these other alternaties I will always be wondering, what if?
  13. Marvel, NOW THATS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! Way cool, I will call them today and get some prices. Manleys valve mixer is WAY exspensive, it's like $9,400.00. Thanks Marvel
  14. I love this forum nobody holds their punches LOL. First off LaScalas would not be my choice to lug around ether! This is for my home studio both the speakers and the head will not be moved. Fender also made a 6 channel 80 watts x 2 version call the Fender PS 160 Voice Amplifier in the 70's. It had reverb and could be used for guitar as well. I was hoping this would be a fun project???? I thought the tubes would be sweet for vocals and would be nice for music through the LS. If the responses are that bad I will go in a different direction. I was a little scared that it would be WAY to noisey for the LS anyway. Is there a mellow SS (digital) mixer you guys like something that might have a little of what tubes bring to the table? Thanks, Guy
  15. I have just purchased a pair of beat up LaScalas I plan to use as my PA speakers for our band. I have been trying to find a tube mixer ether powered or not powered. We only need 4 imputs, 3 for mics and one stereo, so 4 channels or so into 2 so to speak. So a couple of questions if I may? First do you guys know of any good tube mixers powered or not? Secondly if I can't find a good tube mixer what is the best SS mixer for LaScalas? Perhaps a digital one? All thoughts are GREATLY appreciated. All the best, Guy
