  1. Well, I received the HD931 Thursday of last week, picked the TV up on Friday and connected everything to it this weekend. I will say, I am VERY impressed! The functionality of it is very easy to use, the conversion to 1080i is beautiful, IMO it is clearer, crisper and better than HD. Watched Lion King and Nemo and they both looked beautiful! I think the blacks are a little dark at times, but I also think it has to do with the amount of light the is coming into the room. Little calibrating and configuration should do the trick. Thanks to Indy for turning me on to this unit...he said it best, "Don't be fooled by its price". It is truly an awesome DVD player! And you really can't go wrong for the price! When the D2 or D3 come out, I may give them a try as well, but for now it is hands down the DVD-HD931!
  2. Okay, so I have been reading a little over at avsforum. Could some please explain to me the terminology of "Black Crush"? They talk about this extensivly on the forum and I am not sure if I understand exactly what it is. I think I have an idea, but would like a little more clarification if possible. TIA! JAG
  3. First off, welcome to the forum! To answer your post, the "best match" as "redtop" mentioned would be another KG4, given that space is potentially an issue your next best bet would be a KV3 (Diggs I am sure you will agree). That is what I went with and I love it, very happy with the highs and vocals. Given that the KG4's were produced in the early 80's a true center channel was never considered. Over time the KV3 was determined to be the ideal match for a true center channel, however another KG4 is truely the "best match". Check out audiogon or ebay, in time you should be able to pick one up! Good Luck! JAG
  4. I like bello as well at http:\\www.bello.com or check out bdi at http:\\www.bdiusa.com Both are expensive units, but very modern design. I am looking to get one for my 50" gwii once I get save a little, let me know what you decide on.
  5. This question also kind of pertains to me... What should I use for a rear center? KF4 - main KV3 - Center KG1.2 - Rear surrounds? Should I use a KV3 or a KG1.2? Should the centers match or should all the rears match? I am thinking KG1.2?? TIA!
  6. What do you guys thing of the Pats being a "7" point favorite?
  7. I will say to all the Pats fans, I was very, very impressed. I was feeling the hype with Manning in his zone, and thought he was unstoppable. They did put the "LAW" down on them, but Carolina is no sleeper either. Many alayst say that they are the New England team 2 years ago when they won the Super Bowl. However, Brady and those damn short, quick passes is almost unstoppable. I am a huge Steelers fan, and I saw them do it to us, in our own back yard 2 years ago. This team is good, and I think their defense is even better now than then.
  8. DD, Thanks for the fyi! I did read many of them and that is partially why I initially posted my question. I do have some reservations, but all in all I think it will be a great player for the price, dispite the mixed reviews. If I am not satisfied with the unit I will get the Bravo D2 when it come out next month. Most people seem to be very, very pleased with the unit. Thanks, JAG
  9. Well I just pulled the trigger... Went with the Samsung DVD-HD931, based on everyone experience it seems to be worth a shot. If I am not happy with it in a month or two I will probably switch to the Bravo D2 or D3 when/if it comes out. Until then for $244.80 shipped, I couldn't pass it up! Thanks to all! I will let you know my thoughts when it arrives. Thanks IndyKlipschFan for the suggestion!
  10. Looking to buy one of these soon, and I cannot decide which one to get. I have not heard anything bad about the D1, only that the D2 is coming out in Feb and the D3 which is coming out in April/June. But I have heard mixed reviews on the HD931. Pice is not much of an issue as both players are under the $300. This unit will be connected to a Sony Grand Wega XBR and I am unsure to which one to purchase. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, anyone know where to get Monster Cables at a reasonable price? These DVI cords are expensive!! TIA, JAG
  11. This is a great question, I am actually in the same boat. I just got my Sony KV50XBR800(GWII)HDTV and I need a progressive-scan DVD Player. I was looking at a Yamaha to match my receiver and the NAD T532, I would like SACD but not a must. What is the BEST DVD Player around this price range? TIA JAG
  12. My father is looking for a new receiver, and I honestly cannot provide him with much help. He is deciding to go with any one of the following set ups: Outlaw Seperates NAD 773 Yamaha RX-Z1 Can anyone provide any help in his decision. Based on his decision, I get his old RX-V2095 (not a bad deal...) Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, pros/cons, information where to get them at a good price will all be greatly appreciated! Thanks! JAG
  13. Best price so far is a demo from Sound City for $880 shipped. At one time they had them new for $899 shipped. The search continues.... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
  14. BTW: Check out ebay, and audiogone, there are usually a lot around there.
  15. There are several sets of speakers that will match your KG4's, none however are in current production. Any KG series will match for surrounds. I went with the 1.2's and the KV3 for a center. It enjoy it and it sounds great to me. As far as subwoofers go, I have not been able to find a match to the KG4's, and from what I understand (please correct me if I am wrong) it is not imperative for a sub to match your main speakers, centers, or surrounds, so I am looking into the SVS series. Hope this helps
  16. Carlie, I have my KV-3 ontop of my TV set as of now and I have no issues with it. I would call Klipsch and see what they have to say.
  17. With the NAD T763 just being released, I am trying to get my hands on a T762 for a great price. I usually get my stuff from the guys at Sound City, they however have sold out of the T762. Best price that I could get was $850 shipped, can anyone recommend an Authorized NAD dealer where I could purchase the T762 for a reasonable price? Thanks, JAG
  18. I do not have a TiVo as of yet, but I am planning on purchasing one. My question is that I have Comcast cable and I am curious to know if I can hook up the TiVo with my Digital Cable box? I only have on cable co/ax line going to the back of the TV and another set of composite. The composite wires are being used by the DVD player so I cannot use those. Can I run my cable to my cable box, then to my TiVo, then to my TV? Will this process work? TIA, JAG
  19. Looks like SVS is the winner... Need to save up a little more then I will order it. This thing better be worth every penny, I have never seen so many people salivate over a sub in my entire life. I hope I am happy. Thanks to all who responded, it has been very helpful and very appreciated!
  20. So I guess the best thing to do is to hold out for the SVS. Will it over power my current system though?? Will it sound good? Thanks for all feedback...
  21. I am sure you guys are tired of answering these questions, but any help would be greatly appreciated. I guess what I am looking for is a good sub that will fit my system nicely? Here are my questions: Is there a matching Sub out there that will match my system? Do I have to have a matching Sub? Any/All Recomendations? I would like to keep the price relativly low, around $400-$500 nothing more. Looking primarily to use it with my HT for movies not for music. I have heard that the KSW aren't the best, but will I notice a difference? Should I go with the RSW or SVS? Which is better and why? If so what size, or will my KG4's suffice? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  22. I have been looking at new recievers for some time now, and am planning on going with a 6.1 receiver which has the capabilities of 5.1 as well. 7.1 does not impress me much, with little to no DVD's out in this format yet and the fact that I have no desire to set up two more speakers in the side of the room. I read somewhere that Yamaha has an 8.1 reciever out already? Which really confuses me because if things are only in 6.1, very little in 7.1, when are they ever going get around to 8.1? Point being, do what you think will do you best and keep you happy the longest. If you feel the need for a 7.1, go for it, I have no need on my end.
  23. Get a set of Speaker Stands for your bookshelf speakers. I went with a set of Bell'O that are about 48" little above ear level. I would like them a little higher, but I too could not mount on to the wall. I didn't want them to fire down, rather out and then drop down. Work great and I like them. BTW - what kind of deal did you get on that NAD T762? Do you like it, or is still too early to tell?
  24. I agree with everyone above. If you already have all JBL speakers stick with JBL, if they are hard to find, check eBay, audiogone, etc, etc... Just be patient and do not rush this process, you will be glad you did. If you are looking to upgrade to Klipsch speakers in the near future, you need to decide on what your main speakers will be and then match your surrounds, centers, and rears accordingly. I have never heard of someone matching their mains based their rear or surround speakers, but I guess it could be done. In the event that you are stuck on buying Klipsch surronds first, then decide on what system you would like to go with (reference, KG, Synergy, etc) and then plan accordingly to that. Some people cannot tell the difference if their speakers do not match, however others can tell a huge difference as soon as you HT System in turned on. Best of luck...
