  1. Charlie, I went for the Panasonic AE700-u. It's the cheapest, best way to go 1280x720 (720p). It's a little weak on black level being an LCD, but man colours are awesome. It's rated the best low-cost projector on www.projectorcentral.com One thing you will love is that is has the best throw distance I've seen. I have it on top of bookshelves at the back of my 16' long room and can go as small as 4' diag to 10' (roughly). I bought a da-lite matte white screen. I think I should have gone for a grey-screen with this projector. I need a bit of help bringing the blacks down. But don't let that scare you off the AE700u. It's amazing, and I could not be happier until the really epensiv projectors get far more affordable.
  2. Yeah I was shocked how good the system sounds even without the sub. I can't imagine how good it will be with it... Next time I check for shaking first, hehe.
  3. Well guys, it was a simple case of the speaker rattling on the wall from the vibration. all fixed. What a relief. Thanks for the help.
  4. Thanks guys, great feedback. I will try stuff tonight and post results.
  5. I just got my RF-7 towers yesterday. I watched a few movie scenes to give the whole system a run. I need only the RSW-15 to complete the 5.1. The system sounds great - sooo pleased. However, in a few loud scenes, the back right surround channel gave off a few quick little pops of static... I wasn't driving them too hard. I was at about -20 db on my Yamaha. The troublesome scenes were with lightning and rumbling (LOTR-TTT), a space ship take-off (Apollo 13), and a space fight (SW-Empire Strikes Back). The rest of the speakers were totally fine. I did not have time to troubleshoot it as we watched one of these films all the way through. So I am looking for some ideas. So what's the problem? a) That RS-7 speaker could be defective. The Yamaha v2500 receiver could be defective. c) The Yamaha v2500 receiver could be insufficient at even medium load. c) You did a crap job on the wiring/soldering of the banana plugs and there's a bad connection with loud sound. d) The wire is not good enough (old monster 16 guage cable on the surrounds). e) Power DVD6 SPDIF decoding is the issue. f) Move from the 5 year old Audigy 2 sound card to the new Audigy 4. g) None of the above, you idiot. h) All of the above, you fool. i) Figure it out yourself, lazy buttocks! j) Other...(explanation) After voting, any suggestions on how I narrow things down quickly would be appreciated. Thanks! ][udson
  6. Hi guys, I'd like to get ready for my RSW-15. What kind of cable do I need? The specs say "line level RCA phono jacks." When looking for cables and some info, I found this tidbit: "Typically, powered subwoofers will come equipped with either a single RCA connector, or double RCA connectors. However, both connections typically only require a mono (single) connection. Therefore, if you have both right and left inputs, a single cable connected to the "left" input will probably work just fine. However (you knew it couldn't just be that simple, right?) you can get anywhere from a 3dB to 10 dB gain from your subwoofer by plugging into both stereo inputs. To plug into both inputs with a single cable, simply purchase our Ultimate Y-Splitter Cable along with your subwoofer cable." So firstly, do I need only to plug in a single cable? And is it worthwhile then, as suggested above, to get a splitter and plug into both inputs for better performance? And is there any reason to go for more expensive cables? Any suggestions as to where to shop and for what brand/model? As a side note, why does the sub have outputs? Is this to double with another sub or something? Thanks for the help! ][udson

    LCD or DLP

Great point Natgun. I had not picked up on that. I knew it would only accept 1080i, but I did not know 1080p was on the horizon. Good thing I bought the RF7 line instead, hehe. I have no problems waiting either...

    LCD or DLP

Spot on Indy. The Samsung HLR series is the set to buy in a month. 1080i goodness! I am looking at the 61" model as well. Beautiful. It's also great they have a narrow frame around the picture. It will fit with 1" space on either side into my entertainment space. Mmmmm....HLR...
  9. "I have always used Denon stereo recievers for the last 12 years or so with my Klipsch 4.2's. Have always been very happy with the sound until recently the crossovers were changed and there was a very noticable difference. It is a hobby, not a necessity. The klipsches are so revealing the changes in amplification are noticable whether it be Yamaha Denon or whatever. If you are happy with the Yamaha Klipsch combo then fantastic, I was happy with Denon for 12 years. Thats all that matters." sorry speedball I missed this post. Thanks for the encouragement. They certainly sounded awesome to me on the yammy. Hopefully I'll get to see what it's like at home soon. Still waiting on some speakers and the receiver which was misrouted via rail.
  10. Colter, thanks for the tip. So in essence is this making the speaker a little less than perpendicular to the listening position? If it's mounted on top it would seem to make it point slightly below the ears. Hopefully I get the rest of my system soon. I am waiting on the towers, sub and receiver. It's killing me having the others set up and ready to go!
  11. I am a huge F1 fan myself. I am looking forward to getting my RF-7 system going so I can crank that up. I can't wait for the day F1 goes high def though...
  12. Well I just ordered this one. I think it will work out http://www.standsandmounts.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=3729
  13. Are these wide enough for the RC-7? It's dimensions are: 9" (23cm) x 26" (66.5cm) x 12" (30.7cm) And does the RC-7 just sit on it? Or can it be attatched?
  14. Ah, a kindred spirit! Hehe, even though I am more screwed than you. =) I keep thinking...ok, I have the next 20 years to enjoy these puppies. Certainly I can wait 20 days...can't I? Argh.
  15. I got the center and surrounds last night. Wow they are gorgeous. Receiver and towers come in next week. The sub maybe the week after. Man, I can't wait! It's killing me to have only half the speakers...
  16. Guys, I just can't wait. My speakers don't arrive until the middle of next week. I don't think time has ever stood so still... ... .... ...... ......... ..................argh.

Based on these 2 comparisons (and already having 10 years of experience w/ my amp brand (adcom) and klipsch, I bought them. Never been happier." ---------------- Hey Spitfire, I guess you meant the RF *did* sound much better with the less expensive receiver? And did you buy the Yamaha? I thought it sounded great too. I got my v2500 yamaha for $700 and it puts out 130w per channel. I saved a good amount of money over Elites, Denons, or Nads, etc.

I bought a yamaha v2500 receiver for it, which is the receiver I listened to it with for 3 hours in the store. I constantly read on many forums about how Yamaha - even recent models - are too bright for the system. But it sounded great to me. I listened to lines of Polks, Infinity, Paradigm, B&W. There were a couple more that I can't remember the names of. Everything was on different equipment - from Denons to Elites, to Nads and HK. And still none of them compared to the RF-7s on the Yamaha 2500. I can't help but think many of you are just regurgitating popular opinion. Can there *really* be so much difference - for the average person - between decent and recent receiver brands of fairly equal specs? I even began to second guess my receiver purchase, thinking I need to go "warm" receivers or to seperates for all-out quality. But the more I read all these opinions, the more hogwash I think it is for the average listener out there. There is no doubt I will be very happy with my RF-7s on the yammy. It sounded fantastic in the store. It had a great price point for the features and power it delivers. Yamaha builds great quality stuff. It's a fine starting receiver for me. This is not to say the points you all bring up are not valid. You are probably more advanced and experienced audiophiles and know your stuff. But I wanted to throw out my opinion for the less experienced. Don't take everything you read as gospel. Go listen for yourself. And if you like what you hear and it fits your budget, then buy it and enjoy it! And remember, when you get to a certain price range, you have to spend more and more money for just that little bit more in performance...make sure it truly makes sense.
  19. Cool, good to know about the myth. An hour I can understand. 100, I just didn't get...nor did I want. I need to have them going asap! =)
  20. Hmm, I think I've heard of MLs before (sorry not an audiophile yet). Geez, 5x's the price? Wow. Yeah, next Friday will hopefully be the day. I will probably watch 10 hours worth of movies that weekend. I've read recently on the AVS forums (apparently some in the know) that speaker break-in beyond the first hour is a myth. I'm not sure who to believe on it anymore. Did you hear appreciable differences beyond that point? And how would a speaker be damaged from being played too loud too soon?
  21. Hi Kathy. I opted for the black finish. I've got a wall of black bookshelves and other black furniture in a steel-grey room, light hardwood floors, w/ white trim & crown moulding. Cherry may not have looked too bad, but I thought black was the best to go with. It would match any decor as well, I think. When did you get the RF-7s? What did you have before? Are you into music more or home theater? This is my first serious system. It did stretch my budget more than I wanted to spend, but I think it will be worth it in the long run. When you stretch it over the many years I will enjoy them, the expense is pretty low by the year
  22. Msst, I totally agree so far. Everything else I heard wasn't the same or close. I guess the horns and Klipsch design proabbly stand out as "different" more than any other speaker line. I suppose that difference is bad to some, but at least for us, nothing compares. I'll say it again, the most impressive thing to me in the demo was how true the vocals were. This area was not nearly matched by any other system I listened to. And the clarity and presense was the next thing. Everything else sounded muddy, or boomy, or lifeless. I spent a couple of hours reading reviews for the system. I know, I know, I already bought it. But it helped to fuel my excitement. It seems positive to negative comments are about 9-1. Most people range from very happy, to downright euphoric. My screen arrived last night, and it's up on the wall. The speakers are already placed before arriving and I've got cables ready to go. Roll on next Wednesday...I hope!
  23. I have a projector actually. When I do go HDTV, I think I am looking at the upcoming 1080i samsung 61".
  24. Guys, I am going to need a center speaker stand. Any recommendations? The two sites I have found are www.stands.com and www.standsandmounts.com.
  25. Thanks guys. Nice atmosphere here. You guys really share the love I just can't wait another 7 days!
