I am working on a giant solar reflector with my collection. Gotta stop the aliens somehow. Dang, I shouldnt have watched 'Signs' tonight and then listen to Hendrix, Axis Bold as Love.
  3. I just wish record shops in the USA where like th ones in Europe (Germany at least). I was stationed in Germany for 3 years in the 80s. Every saturday after payday I would head to the record shops in Frankfurt. The big difference there is that you can listen to anything before you buy it. That's right, ANYTHING! Germans where not big on tape so most was vinyl and later CDs. I would pick out a big stack of records and discs and head to the counter to listen. You could listen to short snipets of tracks to the whole thing if you wanted. I discovered alot of great stuff I would have never heard otherwise. I also discovered alot of crap to avoid at all costs. By evening I would be heading back to the baracks with lots of new music and alot less DM. BTW what turntable are you using in your system?
  4. Ok here is a pic of the melt down. I think one of the old caps died and took some wire and a tube with it. I am reviewing The Eico rebuild page and warming up the Weller. Craig I think I am going to need parts for 2 amps! Here are 2 more urls if anyone wants to see the front and top side. http://www.merr.com/users/hofy/amp1.jpg http://www.merr.com/users/hofy/amp2.jpg

Times change though.
  6. very true Craig. We are still trying to figure how my wife puts up with me.
  7. Thanks Dale. I dont think it is anything to bad. I'll post the pics later tonight. BTW dont tell my wife about my dates bra and panties being on the amp. There ae suppose to be folded and put up.
  8. I was listening to the ol' Eico ST70 last night when the right channel cut out and I could smell something hot! After pulling the plug and opening up the bottom I was greeted with a mess of melted wires. I think that one of the 7591s is toast too. Looks like it is time for that rebuild I have been planning. Film at 11.
  9. If you do decide to replace the power transformer, look for other Eico amps using a #30021. I dont know what other ones used this but it is what the HF81 uses.
  10. Where did I put that sign? Ahh, there it is. DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS
  11. Nope, not me. I got rid of my NAD on eBay. Craig did ask how much I got for it though. (Just $55 shy of the 299a I got)

  13. Kelly, first off, if it is a machine I can control it. It doesnt matter if it spits out metal, plastic, cheese, or finished product in a box. I will make it happen. Right now I am a Computer Network Tech making computers talk to each other. The right machine in the wrong hands is worse than the wrong machine in the right hands.
  14. First off, major apologies to eapiel for taking over your thread. ---------------- On 1/12/2003 3:19:23 AM mobile homeless wrote: The only reason your ST-70 is sticking around is your Grandfather built it? This amp is thought of VERY highly, especially with a few mods here and there. I would ditch the front plate and make one out of neat hardwood with some interesting knobs. The output iron is very good. Besides the tube choice, it's a hard amp to beat, surely far better than the new options when all working. To me, it's an ugly beast but a new face plate from a buddy woodworker (doesnt everyone have one of these friends) and you have a really cool option that sounds excellent. Would be a fun project. As for the NAD 502, that is the NOTORIOUS problem with them. Almost EVERY model I know has had the display drop out. It's an ok piece but the treble purity is not the best and it's also a bit soft in the bass. IT isnt too hard on the ears, however. A first run Rega Planet would be a HUGE leap. kh ---------------- I didnt mean it that way with the ST70. I just will not use it as the main amp. The main reason being all the extra circuits and the 7591 tubes. BTW I am that wood worker Friend. I wish I was that Metal worker friend
  15. Kelly, I plan on replacing the 502 now that I have the display working again. I bought the 299 so I had a tube amp while I rebuild the Eico ST70 and visa versa. The only reason the ST70 is even sticking around is that my grandfather built it. I also am on the lead for 4 Sylvania 6BQ5/EL84 Black plate NOS in original boxes. We shall see what comes, Klisch people first if I let them go.
  16. Excuse me if this is old hat. How about the n0rh SE9? Super simple and just right, but how does it sound? (Not that it matteres to me, I now own an Eico ST70 and a Scott 299a. )
  17. BTW this is in my 1890's Victorian. 15 X 30 X 9 living/dining room. My wife wants to finish the attic, what the heck will we do with 4,000 + sq feet?
  18. Klipsch magic. Gotta love it! I hooked up my 35 watt NAD 304 for one last hurahh before I shipped it out. It was the the only time I had it on the KM-6s. I only took the volume knob to 12 o'clock and was at well over 100db. I also took a reading with the Onkyo receiver at 75% volume after I got the speakers. 116db! Brain damage level.
  19. I take it by "Bigger" you mean bigger picture file? Holy cats does that little pic take a long time to load. But worth it.

  21. Dale: I've got more than enough ss gear to keep just about anyone happy including myself. Yep, until you hear your new (Craig) tube gear. Happy ears
  22. Nice work Craig. I cant wait to see the finished work. Dale, you must be really chomping at the bit to get these back.
  23. Dale, no offense taken. I am somewhat strange, (just look at my Duct Tape Mounting System Thread, the longest on this board) so I never know what might be taken the wrong way. I'll keep that stuff on a shorter leash in the future. Now lets get back to that eye candy Kelly keeps feeding us.

As far as i'm aware he's making skwat off all his hard work. ---------------- yes, "pimp" was meant as a good thing in this context. Sorry if I offended anyone, especially you, Kelly. Kelly and Craig have both offered more than enough in information that most of us are indebted to them for audio life. In fact they are the ones most responsible for for renewing my tube addiction. (I originally came back to the Klipsch forum for info on home theater a few months ago, then ended up stumbling into here.) Thanks again guys.
