  1. Michael is correct, in the long run the car show or the speakers don't matter, you will remember the trip with your Dad.

Also very true about the way things come together, scary sometimes !....... I was very surprised when he bought those Herseys, having know idea how to get them, and was not even concerned about it. It was like Ha I just won some Heresy's in Tennessee cool ! Like they would just fly to him, Ok he was close, they drove there!

He has much more experience at this than me , and much more cool about it, obviously ! You DA Man ! [Y]

  2. DC is a nice place to visit, we went for a week and it was fun, went to see the Smithsonian's and all the monuments. Also if they still have tours of the Mint, Capital building and the FBI building it's worth going to see, and don't forget Arlington Cemetery.

We took a tour bus to see the Monuments, because they park right there and give you time to walk around at each one. We seen the rest on foot and subway. There is a lot to see, just watch where you go after dark, there are some clubs, but also areas you don't want to see after dark.

  3. Hey Steve, be sure to give me a holler when you're coming through Chicago - we gotta meet up and go hit some live music. [;)]

Doc you shouldn't be hanging out with those long-hairs, they're a bad influence on you. [:^)]

Hey now! Yeah, you gotta watch our for us long-hairs.

Of course, I'd never be a bad influence, unless you like rap and hip-hop! [6] Nothing like cranking up that power metal next to the moran loudly thumping that rap crap at the light! [:o]

That's it Skonopa blow them rappers away, power metal is not my favorite but could listen to that much easier than any rap.

About them long haired types.... I cant say anything bad, I had it long until a couple of years ago. But the older I get the more I like things being convenient and short hair is much more convenient than long. I do miss the looks people give you though, they look at you different when your hair is past your shoulder.

  4. I also had no way to put the surround speakers on the side walls, they had to go in the rear. On my last setup in a different room I could put them on the side wall. I don't hear much difference at all, just balance all the speakers with a DB meter at where you listen from and it should be fine, that seem to make more difference than where the rears were placed, to me.

As far as the sub goes a bigger sub would probably help for movies. If it were me I would hold off if needed and get a little stronger sub, you will be glad you did while watching movies.

As far as what sub would fit you best, ask a few more questions here in HT section or in the Sub section, be sure to let everyone know your room size and especially budget, there is a lot of experience floating around this forum. Don't hesitate to use that experience, it will save you from wasting money, get all the opinions and then you decide what will fit best for you and your budget.

Ask a lot of questions, most will not bite your head off, they love talking about this stuff and helping you spend your $.

Oh almost forgot, welcome to the forum !

  5. Nice story, and if you ever wanted to change things around you could always get your money back on any of those speakers, If you could part with them, how can you lose.

When I moved away from the Synergys I wanted an all Heresy HT. I was thinking they are Heritage and small and with a sub should be great for Ht.

Then Fastlane " thank you " , told me about, and set me up with the seller of a pair of Forte ll's an hour from me, I loved them. Then Michael " thank you " found a pair in the panhandle of Florida, just a few hours away and gave me his spot in line. They match the first pair perfectly, oak. Then by chance I found a pair of originaly Forte's at a Irrigation supply company we buy from, not a perfect match but cheap $ 300 and close enough for rears, for now. So now it's 6.1 Forte's and even if I get more Klipsch, and I will, I will keep this HT setup.

Now something for the workshop and maby the bedroom and there may be more room in the livingroom for another pair, there's only 8 Klipsch and a sub in there now ! I think if I rearange it a little I would have room in the 2 outside corners. [:D] That way they could be two 2 CH setups and a HT in one room, that should do it for that room.

Strange part about this is these 3 pairs of Forte's have been the only older Klipsch to come up for sale withen a days drive from me that I am aware of, and all were Forte ll's or Forte's. I have been lucky, and had alot of help. Thanks.

  6. I had made some stands back when I had the SB3 bookshelf Synergys, I had made them out of steel and painted them black. I had seen a few made of wood, it's not hard to make if you or someone you know can cut some wood to the dimensions you would need, and very cheap. Plus you can make them the perfect height for your needs. Just look at different styles and find some you like and build them if you can.

The stands I had built had a 1 1/4 pipe in the center as a riser and the top was a smaller pipe welded to a plate a little bigger than the bottom of the speaker. The smaller pipe just slid down in the bigger pipe about 8" this way the top could be rotated to point the speakers in any direction.

I was a little nervous about just sitting the speakers on them, but never had a problem it worked very well.

I'm sure you will get more answers from other people here, what ever you do stick with Klipsch.

When shopping for speakers a few years ago I had looked at many brands and for the money Klipsch had the best deal for the quality of sound you would get ! Just my opinion, I don't work for them, and I'm not saying that because of this forum.

To me the horns give a sound that other companies had a hard time competing with, most non horn speakers I heard sounded like you threw a blanket over the speaker, dull. IMHO

  7. Darn Coytee, it looks like a girl decorated that room![:o]

Dang! I think I just got called a sissie!! [;)]

Just remember it is not the color of the room but the size of the horn that matters ; >

Your right, sorry, Maby I should have said " the husband of the lady who decorated that room sure has a huge set of horns ! "[:P]

Now to get back on topic.................................................

  8. For me? Just the fact that Led Zeppelin ever existed. Pick any one of the albums you want.

    One rocks

Two rocks, but gets closer toward soul

Three is just amazing - it will always be in a class of its own! The genious of the artists is readily apparent by this album.

IV was vocal bliss - why Robert Plant was never dubbed over many tracks like that in subsequent efforts, I'll never know. It was just so novel and great.

Phys. Graff? How any band puts out a double album where every song is great.... Their greatness simply showed.

Houses? Probably my least favorite because I'm not much on Dancin' Days or D'yer Maker. But The Song Remains, The Rain Song, The Crunge, etc. are all great.

In Through the Out Door - Zep goes versatile. Who knows where they would have went from there?

They were such a great band. Life-changing for sure. I love the works of many, many other bands/artists - I mean many. But in terms of overall achievement, consistent greatness and uniqueness, Led Zeppelin is it.

I'd say the Beatles, but I was a bit too young for them to change my life.

I Don't know how I can recall these silly things, but for our senior HS prom the hall was decorated to and the theme was Black Dog from Led Zeppelin.

It was an all boys school, that's probably why it was not a sappy slow dance song.
