  1. How do you like the Oppo, I was thinking about the Oppo 981 for HT to replace the Pioneer. I want to use the Pioneer to use with the Harmon Kardon and C lll's for 2 CH. That way I could use DVD-A or SACD on either setup and watch DVD concerts in 2 CH with Clll's or 6.1 with 6 Forte's. It looks like a good player for the price, and it plays everything but the new HD disk.

  2. Fake every other year because every other year we will be somewhere else for Christmas. If I had my choice it would be fake every year, they can be very dangerous, ever burn one after the holidays, takes about 5 seconds. Although nothing beats a real tree, they smell great. Even with a fake tree you can still decorate the house with some real branches and make a wreath to get the smell.

  3. I did the same thing with Forte ll's, the center is sideways and to tell the truth I can't hear a difference.

You will love a center that is an exact match to the mains, nothing like a perfect match. Add 2 or 3 for the rear and what more could you ask for ?

I have the 3 rear Forte's also on there side hung from the back wall. The room is 18' deep and 24' wide, if it was in a much larger room it might make a difference with them sideways, but in this room I don't hear a problem with them sideways.

  4. Well I closed on my house last week. 3 bedroom 2 bath. I went to Best Buy last night and my fiance bought me a 61" Samsung DLP for my 6 year sobriety birthday. Im getting married to a girl that is way out of my league Jan. 6th. Now all I have to do is paint a 1200 sq.ft. house, redo 900 sq.ft. of hardwood floors, recarpet the basement, and move us both in before I can even take it out of the box. Talk about incentive to get it done. I believe all that is more than any guy can ask for in a 30 day period of his life. P.S. painting helpers needed[:D]

Good for you with the 6 years, the rest would have been much harder without those 6 years. A new wife and a new house, sounds like work but it will be the most fun you will have in a long time. Good luck and have fun.

  5. Arfandbark I bet you can guess what was the first thing I did when we walked back in the house !

I walked right over to the HK and fired it up, and sat down on the sofa with a smile ! The poor Yamaha has not even been turned on for music anymore.

THANKS from many here.............................it sounds great, I never expected that much of an improvement.[:D]

  6. GOD BLESS THEM...............................and.............DON'T EVER FORGET...............always remember POW/MIA's..........there are still lost comrades out there.................

    Exactly Oldbuckster.

When Michael was here we went to the D-DAY museum, their should be one set up for every war or conflict every military person was ever in, to show a little of what these brave people went through and for so many who never came back home.

Not just the POW / MIA's , every one who served should be remembered, where would we be without them ?

    THANK YOU

  7. You mean, the world isn't full of 50 year old women that look like the BOW-FLEX woman? Hard to believe, or those 50 year old guys, with the 6 pack abs.....................a cruise ship isn't full of those beautiful people? What's this world coming to????????? I am crushed..........................

No OB it's not full of BOW-FLEX people by a long shot, real people with in some instances real small bathing suits[:S]

Also OB " it's not full of those beautiful people " hey they let us on !

It's not the beauty or the size or shape it's how much was being exhibited from some brave people. Nothing obscene just some really brave people.[:o]

One thing about it though it does make you feel better about a normal bathing suit .

  8. Welcome back dtel. What cruise line did you go on?... We went last December on a Royal Caribean cruise and the Disco was wasted space....no one was there. I bet had it been a rock club it would have been PACKED!!!

It was Carnival, the boat was the Fantasy, Cozumel and Costa Maya Mexico. They did have a club with a rock band and they were pretty good but it was the only night the band was off. They also had a 3 piece jazz band and a guy who would play some organ type thing and sing, he was not very good, but really late at night it was just the clubs with music. I thought the disco would be OK, it's fast and will have people dancing but it was not disco by any stretch of the imagination. It was late so we just went up on the top deck for a short time and went back to the room. One evening when in Cozumel we went to Carlos & Charlies and this place was jumping, that's what they need on the ship ! The music there was kind of disco/Caribbean/ ? really different but nice.

  9. Can I be a living relative?

Please all Dtel's check in with me tonight if you're not busy unpacking or catching up on sleepies.

Glad you had a good time but missed y'all.

    Michael

    Back home. [:|]

Michael if you can live here for a week you " are " now a relative, sorry !

Michael did a great job of being a friend while here, then a great photographer, could not have asked for more of either.

It was the first cruise we have ever been on, but it won't be the last. It was fun, but busy. What I liked the most was snorkeling around the reef in Cozumel . I did not expect to see so many fish and coral even close to shore, that is what I want to go back and do again.

I know there must be some divers here so I have a question. Is there anything you can do about the pressure on you ears when you swim down to 20 or 30 feet ? When I would swim past say 15 feet the pressure on my ears was very painful, at say 25 feet the pressure would be so painful I could only stay just a second. I wanted to scuba dive but I could only stay close to the surface, whats the use ? We were on the surface and could see down 40 feet as clear as if there was no water between us and the divers were swimming along the bottom. The water was so clear it felt like you were flying and looking down at the ground !

Is there a trick or is it just not for everyone ? The reason I said trick was because we were told to spit on the inside of the mask to keep it from fogging up and it works very well.

Even if I have to stay close to the surface it was still unbelievable ! I have had saltwater reef tanks with live coral and invertebrates, and of course fish , but to see it for real and as far as you can see is unbelievable , were hooked !

  10. Ok I have to say something, it will not be Politically correct but I have to say it anyway !

I don't hang out on a beach or public places where you would swim or wear a bathing suit very often at all. But after ending a cruise today and being around the general public for the last week, THEIR SHOULD BE AN APPLACTION PROCESS TO BUY A BIKINI !

Ok I would be the first to say my wife or I are not in very good shape, I'm not judging the size or shape of anyone but how much of it they decide to show off to the general public ! To be fair I am glad they feel comfortable enough to dress how they like, but I have to say some people have tons more nerve than I could ever get together. It was a sight to see, good and bad !

  11. At 49 I also went through disco, it was fun but it couldn't replace rock, for me.

Just came back today from a cruise and went to a " disco " on the boat, It was the only music still going at that time of night. It was not " disco " even worse it was rap for the most part and all the young people dancing thought it was disco. After the third song came on and it sounded just like the first two we were out of there.

  12. This is Joni Dtel's sister, I am not getting my own sign on name, this house has enough Dtel groupies!!! So I will just post under him! My guess is 1250, are we there yet??? I feel sick! remember michael? [+o(] ha ha[:P]

beautiful pictures, minus mine, can we remove me pleasssssseee [;)]

  13. I was there and I have no idea ? But I can tell you I was able to watch him work when I was able, He is very good, and very good with people. He knows how to get what he wants in the picture and be funny.

The biggest surprise to me was how hard he works, he runs the show, keeps everything running smooth and organized, if he did not take the pictures you would think he was a wedding planner ! If it wasn't for Michael it would have taken all night we were so disorganized.

THIS GUY IS GOOD, REALLY GOOD, and fun to watch, you have to see it, it's to much to explain !

All of this from someone who gives himself very little credit for how much talent and personality he has !

All of this from a guy you are proud to say is your friend !

I can't thank you enough for the work you did for us, but more important we had a chance to get to know you and that came first, and the best part by far !

    THANK YOU........

  14. dtel - Congrats on getting things to sound nice.

Can someone fill me in on this? What was running before that prevented the CW III's from expressing themselves?

Meagain, it was a Yamaha rxv 730, It does fine for movies or concert dvd's but for 2 CH it's just dull ! This Harmon Kardon just kills the Yamaha for good ole 2 CH.

So now the Yamaha does the multi channel stuff with the 6 Forte's and sub, and the Harmon K does the 2 CH with just the Cornwall lll's.

We listen to much more music than watch movies, even more now.

  15. Colterphoto,

The 930 should be plug and play. I ran it for a couple hours before I boxed it up.

All lights work, no scratch in the controls. I sent some extra 3 amp fuses for it just in case. Those little filaments don't take shipping well sometimes. You replace them in the back of the unit instead of opening it up as it is with your 730.

Just give it the standard vintage H/K operating proceedure (power on, then power to speakers, power off speakers, power off receiver) and all should be fine.

I've never ran it higher than eleven, eleven thirty on the volume pot so keep your ears open for distortion if it's turned up further than that.

Let's consider the shipping cost a reaffirmation of vows gift.... As a matter of fact, let's consider the receiver itself a reaffirmation of vows gift.... I've had it in the back of my mind that's what I was going to do all along.

Have a good time with the Dtels and remember it's nose to the grindstone starting the 12th.

Don't be calling in on your first day with some lame "I'm locked in a barn in Mississippi" story.[;)]

Michael and I hooked everything up. I stepped back to listen and started towards the sub woofer to turn it off and realized it wasn't on and it wasn't even connected, the subwoofer is on a totally different system. That's when I got the big smile on my face. After sitting down and listening I am amazed at the difference in sound compared to a "modern" home theater receiver.

It is hard to believe that someone would do something like this for someone without ever meeting them. That is what makes this forum so different from all the others. If you stay around this forum long enough you will see people do things like this for each other all the time, it's not that unusual here.

I really do appreciate your gift and if there is anything I can ever do for you please let me know.

My wife told me it was okay to tell you what happened. She was listening to the new setup, when I asked her what she thought about it I noticed she was crying. I asked her what was wrong and she said, we are really lucky to have people care enough to do something like this for us without ever having met us.

Between Michael spending the week with us, photographing the triple wedding, the gift of the receiver from arfandbark and the wedding itself, emotions are running high. After it was all done, Michael had a big smile on his face and said "I knew this was going to happen, because I knew what it would sound like, but I wanted it to be a surprise for you." You should have seen all of our faces, including Michael when we read your post about giving us the receiver as a gift, and refusing reimbursement for the shipping. Everyone in the house was shocked.

I am serious, if there is anything I can ever do for you, please let me know.

I spent thirty minutes sitting here composing a post and it was all "erased". This was pieced together somewhat from the post that was erased. I will be posting more later as I get in more listening time.

The sound is completely different from what I have been hearing from my Cornwall III's. It is much better than I could have hoped for. This gift will be listening enjoyment to everyone here, as well as anyone that visits. Even "dtel's niece" said she could hear a big difference in the way the speakers sound and the HK you gave us is roughly the same age she is!! My brother in law was sitting in the living room, not really paying attention until we turned the HK on and then he said, "Those speakers are really amazing". In twenty eight years I have never heard him comment on anything audio.

Thanks again for the wonderful gift.
