  1. Well the person playing the music probably never had anything to do with the setup. The amps and whatever else they had for the most part was built in to the wall in a rack with just a couple of turntables in front of the DJ.

I would guess the clubs owned the equipment and just had someone DJ.

DJ's back then were a little different than many today, now it seems they just like to hear themselves talk.

The reason I thought of the amps was back then it was like , just add more speakers to get more sound. I recall one club called the Dungeon in the French Quarter that didn't open till around 2 am. It was small and had no sign, just a alley and steps in the rear up to the club. I had found out about it from a bartender, it was where most of the working people in the Quarter went they got off of work.

This place had the best sound of any club, it was about 30' wide and 40' long with a bar at each end and tons of speakers facing down from the ceiling.

Some of the places in Metaire were huge and had several large rooms and at least 15 or 20 speakers in each room , how did they get the sound right with so many speakers in one room?

I guess it was kind of like today, whatever place looks the best and has the best sound it where the crowd is. Back then ( or today )I did not know much about amps and thought McIntosh was more of a pro amp being they could drive so many speakers to such a volume.

These places were making a lot of money they could have used whatever they wanted.

I had met an owner of one of these clubs and he said he would build a new club about every 6 months with a different name and theme, and when the people got tired of one or something new and cool comes along the crowd would move to the new club. Then we go back and remodel the old one back to something different to keep up with the trend and get the crowd back. Smart man, and I'm sure very rich now.

  2. I remember about 30 years ago ( when I was single ) when we would go out to clubs I would always walk around and find the DJ just to look at all the amps and the setup that was pushing all the speakers in the club.

And 9 out of 10 times it was one brand, McIntosh, it was easy to spot with the meters and that famous McIntosh writing.

Back then, where we went was the French Quarter in New Orleans or what was called Fat City in Metaire La.

Was that the amp to have back then or was it just a good sales rep for the area ?

I Wonder what ever happened to all of those huge amps when they closed or changed to something else?

  3. dtel sez: 'We love our Fortes, all of them. I sure am glad you didn't ask me to compare Fortes to Cornwalls. That would be a tough one.'

really? I think the CW would blow away any Forte. Now the Chorus would be neck and neck, imho.

put one of them next to each other, hook up to same amp and give a good listen. Do the same with F and FII. Then report back.

    M

Boy if I just had one of those switch box contraptions and some more experienced ears we could compare Forte ll's , Forte's and Cornwall lll's !

  4. I agree, when we first got our new TV the settings were so far off it would hurt your eyes, it was so bright. used the Sound & Vision DVD and reset everything, it's much better now. Hope that's the only problem you have .

  5. I have both and the only comparison I did was put a different one on L & R channel. To tell the truth I could not hear a difference.

If I had used a switch box on the same channel it would have been easier to tell, and I never spent much time comparing.

I was kind of in a rush to hear them all in a HT. I use Forte ll's for front L&R, center and rear center and original Forte's for L&R rears. Sounds great IMHO.

Like Duke said : can't go wrong with either !

  6. It's still on Wuzzes topic and congrats[:)]

Very nice words of encouragement Christy and do you really think Dtel is a smarty pants!!!LOL

During a recent opinion taken in our home (remember there are nine of us living here) everyone unanimously agreed that dtel is the smart a_ _ of the family.

Do I personally think dtel is a smart a_ _?

Answer: He is one of the finest people I have ever met, but he is a smart a_ _, or maybe he is just sarcastic, or, "dry humor"[*-)]

What was Dtel's vote. If he didn't agree then it WAS NOT unanimous and worthy of spirited debate until ALL agree!

I really would have to say it's unanimous, no need for a debate on this subject.

Now the rest of the BS my wife posted about me would turn out to be a good debate !

  7. Congrats!!![<:o)]

I've been on a exercise program myself for about a month and a half now. I've modified my eating habbits, been down on my bowflex religiously. In this time, I've lost 18lbs. My body is starting to look lean and trim again, I can see more muscle mass growing. The only area where I really need to work is getting rid of some of that chub around my waste. My stomach is flat again (for the most part) but there is still some of that flab. This morning as I was bent over brushing my teeth, I noticed that I didn't have this big lump of flab haning over my towel, a little, but sooo much less than it used to.

Ok ok, this may be TMI (too much informatin) but.... Last friday night my wife looked at me gave me the up and down and said, you really are starting to look good!. Then last night we were in bed doing what married couples do and durring the heat of the moment, my wife says, gawd, you are really starting to feel good, you feel so much better than you used to. She made mention of it several times... WOW, I can't tell you what a moral boost that was and the amount of validation I felt hearing that, ESPECIALLY durring the activities we were doing at the time. It made me feel very attractive and boosed my self confidence tremendously!

Keep up the good work. I know it's very hard to stay motivated but once you start to see progress, that very progress helps to keep the motivation going.

Wow, Moon thats funny, what your wife said .....

I hope when you get in a little better shape she don't call you by another name by accident ![:o] Just kidding, I couldn't help it

  8. My neighbor / best friend done it about 2 years ago. He lost 175 lbs and said it was the best thing he had ever done.

The operation was very easy, he said , it did take him a while to get adjusted to eating less but more often. He also had to take vitamins every day which he slacked off after a few months only to find out he would feel very weak, he got back on the vitamins and have had no problems.

He is like a different person , he is 12 years older then me 61 and we work together on many things, and It takes everything I have to keep up with him.

Before the operation he had bad knee problems to the point he had to get an artificial knee joint and still had problems with it, not anymore you would never know.

Good luck and I hope it goes as well for you as it did for him.
