  1. I really like the Sunfire amps with the larger Klipsch. The Klipsch may be efficient, but they tend to dip down to 2 ohms on the low end. Sunfire made my RF-7s sing. I've owned the TGIV, and while it was a very musical pre-amp, it lacks many of the current bells and whistles. I recently picked up a Integra DTC-9.8 and so far am very impressed. At a $1699 MSRP it is a steal and bests many pre-amps twice it's price.
  2. I had my Elite PRO-520 calibrated when I got it and it was north of $400, but that was also 4 or 5 years ago. Geeze can't believe it was that long ago, I still love that TV.
  3. You weren't blown away because I don't think you get the full resolution out of the component jacks, you have to use HDMI to get the full 1080i. The crippled the analog output for copy protection reasons. *edit* I checked into it, and the actually spec is that the content producers can input a flag that will downconvert video to 540P over component. Not sure if any titles have been released that way though.
  4. Best Buy must have sold out fast. The HD-A2 is now not even on their site. They were available at $99 an hour or so ago.
  5. Absolutely sure. Look at best buy. $99 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp;jsessionid=GSSV0CYAH3BEXKC4D3IFAGI?skuId=8021767&st=hd-a2&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1158323325814
  6. It's a good thing for some people, but not for the ecosystem. The big winners in all of this are conntent creators and end users. Those two groups cannot play without the CE companies. The amount it takes to play and the margins they stand to gain are not that great for CE companies. Suppose that a real good looking HD movie is 30gb-50gb. It will be years upon years (my guess is 10) before enough people have the bandwidth to just grab a 30gb movie and store it. HD packaged media depends on the ecosystem of CE companies, content creators, and customers all thinking this is in their best interest. If format wars make the CE aspect an instant race to the bottom, they are going to run away and hide the next time new technology comes out. I could not disagree more. Which ever side "wins" will make millions / billions on royalties on each player an each piece of media. The DVD Forum has made a vast fortune on royalties for DVD. The reason that this sale is good is that hopefully it will bring a quicker close to this "war" and declare one format a winner going forward. Remember DVD-A and SACD? The DVD Forum came up with a format called DVD-Audio, but Sony went its own way with Super Audio CD. In the end, neither format sold, digital distribution gained legitimacy and iTunes sent DVD-Audio and SACD to the grave.
  7. Blu-ray may have a storage space advantage, but HD-DVD has a stricter standard and costs less. Both camps have pros and cons, but in reality it's the software that really counts. Either format would be an improvement over standard DVD. Many point to the Beta vs VHS, but that is a fairly flawed argument. When the VHS/Beta war was active, the choice for consumers was either no video playback in their homes or one of the two new formats. VHS, while technically inferior, won due to software support. DVD was adopted quickly because it was a convenience over VHS. You don't have to rewind a DVD. Now consumers are asked to upgrade to one of two new formats that the average consumer sees as little more than a fancy DVD. It's no more convenient than the DVDs they already own but costs more and may end up obsolete like Beta. Personally I'd be happy with either format, but would rather see the HD-DVD win, as it's lower cost will lead to a quicker adoption as a format. The sooner one format or the other really goes mainstream, the sooner more content and hopefully cheaper content will be available. To make a short story long..... a $99 player is a good thing. the more players out there, the more content will be created.
  8. I'm normally not a fan of thread crapping, but that was a fairly uneducated response and is little more than trolling. Bluray is not "no doubt better". I would be surprised if anyone here could tell the difference in picture between the two. At least HD-DVD has a unified standard. All of the first and second generation Blu-Ray players are not capable of the final blu-ray spec except maybe the PS3 because it's in software. This is because Sony was in such a rush to get the PS3 out that they shipped before the blu-ray spec was even fully standardized. Realistically, either system provides access to additional and much needed HD material and at this type of price (<$200), neither is a bad investment. Sorry you feel the way you do, but your closed mindedness is causing you to miss out on Transformers in HD as well as many other great titles. I have for the record owned both formats (and D-VHS for that matter) and would consider neither to be a waste (well D-VHS was kind of a waste).
  9. I'm not looking for up-conversation to a higher resolution, but just conversion to one input. Currently I have the TG IV convert everything to component and have the DVD player running on HDMI. My issue is that I don't like having to switch inputs on the TV and would like to use just the one HDMI input instead. It's more of a convenience thing than anything else.
  10. I currently have a Sunfire Theater Grand IV Preamp, and while I am VERY happy with it, but I am interested in getting something with HDMI. The TG V supports HDMI switching, but no upconversion, the Anthem AVM-40 is nice but a lot of money... I've also looked at just using a Denon AVR-3808, which has upconversion to HDMI, auto-calibration, and a few other nifty features. Would this be a noticeable downgrade? I use this system mostly for movies (HD-DVD via the xbox 360 attachment) and maybe 5% music at most. I'd still be using the Cinema Grand Signature amp so the Denon would just be a processor. Is this something worth looking into or would it be a downgrade?
  11. +1 on the Sunfire recommendation. I have the 400x7 Cinema Grand Signature and it made my RF-7s sing and now works wonders on my Martin Logans. It's a great amp and can handle very low impedance drops with ease. Highly recommended. I also have the Theater Grand IV and while I like the sound there are a few quirks that would steer me away from it if I was doing it all over. The volume knob tends to be fussy, I used to work for a local dealer and all our units seemed to have this problem after a while. If you use the remote it's no issue, but when using the dial on the unit the volume will skip around a little. It also annoyed me that the inputs are not assignable like they are on my Denon receiver. Other than that, they are both great pieces.
  12. Not mine, but found this on Craigslist. They are local to me, so I could check them out if need be. http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ele/357420122.html Call Brad 612-226-2073
  13. I've been running the Ascent I speakers for a couple months now and am very impressed. There is a level of detail that the RF-7s just couldn't touch. They do somewhat lack the slam that the RF-7s had though and are no where even as close to as loud.
  14. Wow nice setup for a nice price!! I had the RF-35s and loved them. The RC-7 is also a huge improvement over the RC-35. I would not worry about electrical interference at this point. Your biggest problem by far is that amp. Amps make the biggest difference in the world on a speaker such as that. Go grab yourself a nice Denon on Yamaha receiver, then add an amp down the road if you feel it necessary.
  15. I like them a lot actually. I recently my RF7s to the bedroom and put my Matrin Logans in he theater room. I'm in the process of selling the Ref7 setup and buying ML center, rears, and sub.
  16. Which Sunfire pre-amp were you using? I have the THX Ultra 2 subs running off a Sunfire Theater Grand IV. I thought they sounded very deep and powerful, although the room is not terribly large, but I'm wondering if doing somthing like this could make it better as well.

  18. I have them offered at $2300 for the pair of subs plus the KA-1000 amp. See the thread below. http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/thread/874196.aspx Also selling RS-7s and a cherry RC-7
  19. I actually have the Klipsch THX Ultra 2 subs and matching amp that I was looking to part with if you have any interest. They are a great match to the RF-7s
  20. yes, it's the Klipsch one. KA-1000. I can take pics tonight or tomorrow. Where you located in MN? I'm in Shakopee.
  21. go to Radio Shack and pick up an SPL meter (~$35). Then run the channel level setup on your reciever, and you're set.
  22. I have two of the Klipsch THX Ultra 2 subs with one amp. Purchased new from directly from Klipsch in December '04. I have all invoices and packing slips from Klipsch. I have the orignal boxes and packaging, but we got some water in the basement and the boxes got wet on the bottom (speakers were thankfully all upstairs in the living room). Local sale would be prefered, but I can rebox and put on a palet if shipping is nescessary. MSRP for 2 subs + amp is $3,900, asking $2,300 or best offer. Also selling: a pair of black RS-7 surrounds, mint, with boxes, for $500 (SOLD), RC-7 in cherry for $500 (w/ box). Boxes for center and rears did not get wet, water only got my sub boxes and one of my RF7 boxes. No speakers were in basement, boxes only. Email for pictures or with any questions, thanks.
