  1. I found a local guy (like 3 miles away) with a Pioneer Elite Pro-520 (my old tv!!!) willing to let it go for $1000. It seems like a good deal (although we were blowing them out for $1500 a year ago), but should I be looking at a SXRD or DLP instead? I guess space is not a huge issue, but I'm moving again in 6 months and a crt seems like a pain in the butt. Is it worth shelling out $1000??
  2. It's hard to say. I bought my KG3.5s new from Audio King in '96 for $279 a piece. I was thinking about selling them, but found they were going on ebay for $200 a pair, so it didn't seem worth it. Used gear, unless it's somewhat current is always a tough sell. As a set I'd expect to fetch $500 - $600 for the five speakers, so if possible, I'd just keep them.

    Deal on subs

Having worked in an A/V store, I would advise you to buy neither. Demo subs get abused, very abused. We blew our RSW-15 about once a month because we liked to "see what it could do". Demo speakers are usually a no no as well. You can buy a used RSW-10 in the $600 range, by the time you send in the RSW-10 and get it fixed, you'll have spent just as much. I'm guessing it won't be fixed under warranty or they would have sent it in them selves.
  4. I don't need upscaling or dvi/hdmi. I just want a good transport.
  5. I need an moderately priced dvd player that will handle both dvd and sacd. I've narrowed it down to either the Pioneer Elite DV-45A or the Denon 1920. Both are about $350. The Denon has a lot of new bells and whistles (upconversion, HDMI) but I really don't need them as they won't be hooked to an HD tv. Which has the better DVD transport? I make backups of all my movies now, because my roommates have a tendency of scratching them. My current player has trouble with a lot of the backup discs, as did my last player (although my roommate's piece of crap dvd player reads them perfectly).
  6. Save your money. I'f you're used to the clean tight bass of the ML depth, you won't be happy with the RW12. Save your movey and get a RSW12 (or a ML descent.... hehe).
  7. You work for Magnolia? The actual store or one inside of Best Buy? I'd look at the ML Clarity if I were in your situation. Great speaker although the off axis is terrible. (seriously, sit down then stand up and it's retarded how different it sounds.) My advice would be to stay away from the def techs. With the exception of the 7000 and 7001, they use vifa's cheapest drivers and are incredibley brittle sounding to my ears. They are the only speaker i've ever heard that actually gives me a headache. Besides, bipolar seems too much like a glorified bose. I don't have a mouth in the back of my head making noise when i talk, why should my speaker. They do get incredible reviews from sound & vision as well as others, but also spend more on marketing than anyone but bose (funny how that works).
  8. Saddly it was the best selling "ht" system in the us in 2004.

    RF7 or RSW15

The RF-5s are no slouch. I'd think there woul;d be many things I'd upgrade before those. The difference (as noted earlier) between the RW and RSW line is imense in the sense that they are not as muddy and will dig a lot deeper than the RW line. That looks like it would be the way to go.
  10. Russ, I'm still pleased with the sound. I love the things, but they are just too damn big. They're too deep to fit in my rack very well (they hang way out the front) and they take up two rack spaces. I'm thinking of going to 7.1 soon and there is no way I have room for another one. On top of that, unless I'm really cranking it, the watt meters never read above 0. If I crank it it might spike at 5 watts. Don't need that kind of wattage to drive a 102 db efficient speaker. Basicly I'd like to find a 5 or 7 channel amp that will fit in my rack and leave me with some space. Although now my sale fell through, so I guess I'll just keep em.
  11. What about Anthem? The Statment P5 looks rock solid, although I've never heard it pushing anything but Paradigm.
  12. I have a dedicated preamp and amps now, I'm just looking to go to a single 5 channel unit without sacraficing anything in the process if possible. I'm looking at a Krell TAS right now. Anyone used this amp with Klipsch?
  13. I have a sale pending on my Monster MPA-2250 & MPA-3250 amps, so I'm starting to shop for a replacement. I'd like a 5 channel or 7 channel. Any suggestions? Right now I'm looking at Krell, Parasound, and Sunfire. My speakers are RF7s, RC7, & RS7s. I'm using a NAD T-163 preamp.
  14. Don't think of the RP-5s as having a sub built in, but rather as a powered full range speaker. Add the RSW 15 to your existing setup and see what you think. The RF7s would be a very nice improvement, but at quite the expense. Definately replace the center though. Build in phases, not all at once, this will allow you to the the difference (or lack of) that adding each component makes.
  15. I thought about it, but I guess I don't understand how it would help. XLR eliminates noise because it's a balanced connection. Using a RCA to XLR is still an unbalanced connection. Am I missing somthing? Anyway, I chassis grounded my dvd player and it almost completely went away. Then..... I turned my sub on and it came back (although not as bad as before). The sub is a Klipsch THX Ultra 2 (KL-120 and matching amp), which has a 3-prong ground and runs into the samepowercenter (connon ground) as all other connected equipment. Any other ideas??
  16. Currently I have my coax run through my power center as well (Monster HTPS-7000SS), I was under the impression that the power center took care of ground loops on the coax, but maybe it's just for surge protection. I'll pick up a issolator and a cheater plug and do some expirimenting. thanks for the info guys.
  17. The only subs in the system are the Klipsch THX, but they run off of a single amp, which plugs into my power center. Every single pice of equipment is run through the power center (including the coax) and all have 3 prong outlets except for the dvd and tv.
  18. I've ripped my system apart and rewired twice now and just can't get rid of my ground loop hum. I tried connecting pieces one at a time and nothing, but as soon as I give up, it comes back. I'm getting kinda flustered. Anyone had any expirience with standalone ground loop issolators? I want somthing between my preamp and amps. I'm about at the point where I might just ditch the NAD preamp and get something with XLR. This is driving me nuts....
  19. Yeah the RF-35s shipped out this morning. Sad to see them go actually, they were my first "real" speakers, so they had a kind of sentimential attachment. Oh well... RF7s will cheer me up quite nicely.
  20. The LF-10 is in great condition, but I don't have the box anymore. That being said I'd prefer someone local so I don't have to deal with trying to ship it. Where are you located?
  21. Sunfire is one of those things where you either love it or hate it. You'll find many happy Sunfire users on this forum. My expirience has been just the opposite. I worked for a HT retailer that carried Sunfire and each and every unit (TGIII, TGIV, & Ultimate Reciever) all had a faulty volume control. It drove me nuts. We had a couple units that we boomerangs. The volume knob on every single one would have problems where you would turn the volume down and it would stick then jump up 20 db or vice versa. Other than that I liked them a lot. Especially the TG IV, as it is almost the only HT processor that I'm aware of the does video upconversion to component. I would have bought one myself, but the volume knob thing really bugged me to the point that I wouldn't have enjoyed owning it.
  22. I bought my NAD t-163 for close to that, and it has PLIIx as well as 3 component video ins. Very happy so far.
  23. Thought I'd give the forum a shot at them before they went to ebay. Looking for $500 for the towers and $200 for the Adcom amp, but will take offers as well. Towers were purchased through an authorized dealer (Ultimate Electronics), and saw little use as they were quickly replaced by RF7s. I was planning on keeing these around to either make a 7.1 setup in my living room or use as computer speakers, but I don't have the space. Mint Condition. I have all boxes and packaging, as well as the manuals and feet (which are not currently installed). Not a scratch and grills are inperfect shape.
