  1. I have a pair of Klipsch Chorus II speaker grills for sale. Thought as a courtisy I'd give the forum a shot at them before I put them up on eBay. They are in mint condition. They are brown in color. Yes, these are for the Chorus II, not the original, so they have the magnetic catches, not the push in style. I'll take $100 shipped anywhere in the lower 48. Anywhere else we'll have to figure out shipping cost. PM me with an email address if you are interested, I have pics ready to email.... D
  2. I moved to a pair of Chorus II (from my Klipshorns actually) a couple months ago and love them. I ended up with a pair of Forte' II that will likely be excess soon. Both are great, just depends on how much room you have and how far clockwise you turn the volume knob. D soupamoto
  3. Bill, For a data-point for you I also recently purchased a Sony A20 HDTV LCD projection TV. I got the 60" version (the eBay gods have treated me well lately). I have not experienced the problem you mentioned with my TV. The main reason I chose that TV over all the others is how I just couldn't seem to see the lines of resolution as I could on so many other TVs. My only dissapointment is how BAD standard definition TV looks on a big TV! The simple fix is to watch only High Def programming or DVDs... LOL. I'll be interested to see if swaping out your cable box does the trick. D soupamoto
  4. Hey all, Well, Coytee had an Acadamy for sale; I bought it this past week. I paired it up with my own Acacamy and put them on each side of my TV. I have them mounted vertically on stands. I wired them as the center channel using an Adcom speaker selector driven off one channel of my Acurus amp. I did have three KT-LCR speakers as my center; one on each side of the TV and one below the TV. I also used the speaker selector for that. As much as I liked the three KT-LCR speakers as the center, the two Acadamies are like bacon, they just make everything better! Coytee and I did an extensive listening test switching back and forth between configurations and the two Acadamies (one on each side of the TV) just plain made me smile... I might offer the KT-LCRs up for sale soon, haven't decided yet. The would make somebody an awesome HT along with the spare pair of Forte' II I ended up with. All are Oiled Walnut. D soupamoto
  5. OK, just received my new (to me) refurb Sunfire Theater Grand I pre/pro. Amp isn't here to hook it up, so all I can do is read the manual and create questions.... What is the intended/proper use of the two additional channels to make the up the TG 7.1 surround from this unit? Obviously Dolby Digital and DTS do not support those extra two channels. The manual says the extra two channels are used as 'side' channels and that they are synthesized from the front left and right channels. Anybody used them and have any suggestions/comments on their use? Is it worth me buying an additional two channel amp to run these additional two speakers (by now most of you probably now I have spare speakers coming out of my, oh, ya, this is a family channel, well, never mind that detail), since I have the speakers to try it out? D
  6. Wow, lots of great input and helpfull opinions! OK, I found a Sunfire Theater Grand I on eBay that is a B stock, factory refurb, complete with new remote, and full 2 year warranty, for $599 plus very reasonable shipping. I made the plunge! In fact, Fedex shipping it arrived in only 2 days and I just unpacked it. It is beautiful!! (more on there if anybody is itchin' for one now!). Six hundred bucks! If it works that seller will get a glorious positive feedback! Unfortunately the Acurus 125x5 amp I also scored on eBay has not arrived yet. I think it is on the slow Parcel Post Boat to China, and back. Hmmph. I'm going to search some posts for an explination of how to use the "7.1" channels on this TG... since Dolby Digital and DTS do not support 7.1 I haven't a clue what to use those extra two channels for... if I don't find what I'm lookin' for I'll put up a new post. Thanks for all the help! I can't wait to try this new set up out with my treo of Forte', Chorus, and Chorus II (and one Academy, and the KT LCRs and in wall 250) and see what the ulitmate setup for my room turns out to be! More fun than a box full of puppies!! D aka; soupamoto
  7. Thanks, Shawn. I think you are right. For instance, at the risk of making some owners mad... I've seen a TON of poor reviews of the Adcom stuff from this vintage. Not so much how they work or sound, but IF they work.... shame 'cause they are nice looking and seaming units. I have not seen the first negative toward any of the Sunfire Theater Grand units. They sure are prudy. And BIG! At this point, I'm thinking I just need to hit one with a dart and take it home! Still open to thoughts as to what to avoid and if there are any SIGNIFICANT differences that make any one stand out over the other. D
  8. OK, I'm ready to dump my Sony HT receiver for a set of separates. I have an Acurus 125x5 on the way. Now for the HT preamp. Is it my imagination, or can a few year old HT preamp that retailed for THOUSANDS of dollars, be had for a few hundred dollars, and still be viable these days?? Is a new HT preamp today really worth several thousand dollars more than these slightly oldie but goodies? I've looked at Adcom GTP-750 or 760, B & K Referance 20 and 30, Acurus ACT-3, Aragon Soundstage, and, the one that really makes me horny, the Sunfire Theater grand I, II and III. From what I've seen on eBay this past week, these models retailed for between maybe $1600 to $3600 just 3 to 6 years ago. But, from what I can tell, they all have at least the basic DD and DTS, and occasionally THX or some other obscure seldom actually found surround mode. And, can be had for between $300 and maybe $1000. I mean, near as I can cipher, a high end unit with 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS and a remote is about all one really really needs. What am I missing?! So, question is: bang for the buck (and belive me, bucks are running WAY thin after all the upgrades I've done this past few weeks), what is wrong with buying one of these units for today's Home Theater?? And, specifically, any MAJOR reason to spend a couple hundred dollars more for the Sunfire Theater Grand II or double that for the III over the original? Keep in mind, I can't (and won't) afford to actually spend three grand on a HT preamp... even if there are some subtle improvements to todays "new" technology. Down to Earth comments?
  9. Thanks, Keith. Literature sounds great. Let me know if you need my address; I think I emailed it to you. I'll check out some HT preamps in the forum. Man, I've found a bunch. I'm really looking at the Sunfire Theater Grand (the original or the II). Wow, you can score a 3 to 5 year old model for cheap compared to what they cost new! D
  10. The perfect speaker is the one that you're listening to at the moment... As for the question; How does the Forte' II compare with the Chorus II... dang, that is exactly what I'm going tonight... I'm a Forte' fan from back when too. I've had K'horns and a tasle of other Heritage speakers. Here are my (and my girlfriend's) observations: With no question, the Chorus II sounds "bigger, fuller, sexier". Sitting on my couch, which one do I enjoy hearing more? I almost hate to say, but the Chorus II. I do sort of think they sound the similar, except for a noticable sound level difference (as would be expected). When I adjust the volume up a bit when listening to the Forte'; I forget which speaker I'm listening too. Litterally. If you have to walk up to a speaker and feel the woofer move; then it must not sound to bad compared to the compition, eh? The difference is more noticable below half volume. At louder volumes the diff between the two is way harder to tell which I'm hearing. But, so far, given the choice, the Chorus II makes my nipples happier than the Forte' II. And I was skeptical too. Don't need a sub with the Forte'??!! What have ya'll been smokin'?! I'm sitting here turning my SW12 sub on and off listening to both of these speakers, at all sound levels, and dang if that sub doesn't remind me of Bacon; It just makes everything better!! Sure, if you don't have a sub you won't be sad. But, if you can afford the money, room, whatever, for a sub; Do IT! In fact, I recommend two... Oh, BIG, BIG, brownie point for the Forte' II; I carried the Forte's into the house MYSELF tonight... I needed help with the Chorus II (and my Chorus for that matter). That is a HUGE advantage for any one that isn't in the house they plan on dieing in. OK, Bottom Line? The Chorus II with a sub (or two) sound really really good. Isn't it all about the sound? However, phase 2 (and 3, 4, and 5 I'm afraid) of my evaluations will be to use these speakers with a center channel (or two) and surrounds )and, yes, subs!) and find the best (for me) combination of speakers to make a matching, seamless, livable HT setup. Then, find homes for the leftovers. Remember, this is just me talkin'. D
  11. At the moment I don't have the Chorus II's and the Acadamy together. I bit of a hodge podge right now. Ulitmately, I'm gonna have to get back to this question. But, the short answer is, the Chorus II and Acadamy did fine and so far I can't tell much diff between the KT-LCR and Acadamy. But, I have a long way to do to really say that for sure. That was only watching Nemo and doing a little back and forth between them. D
  12. Hi ya Keith! Hehe, thanks for checking the Forte II sale. Man, that guy has been AWESOME. He HAND DELIVERED the Forte' II's..... to Tennessee from Rohde Island! He was "passing through" anyway, but he certianly didn't have to do that. I'm going to have to come up with an extra-special Positive Feedback for him. wow. Ya, I'm loving this. I did a prelim Chorus and Chorus II evaluation last night. Jolene said she fell in love with the Chorus II the moment I turned them on. I wasn't quite as sure, and didn't have time to go back to the Chorus. Maybe there was some 'clarity' missing on the II.... not sure. I know that may not make sense. That will get revisited. Tonight I have the Forte' II and Chorus II in a head-to-head battle. A little Peter Gabriel and some Chris Rhea are the weapons. First thoughts? The Forte' II and Chorus II are IDENTICAL, if you turn the volume up 5 notches on the Forte' II... go from C to F and the sound goes a little flat... go back and the sound is bigger. But, adjust the volume up on the F to compensate for the efficiency of the Chorus II, and dang if I can't tell which speaker I'm listening too! Just now adding one SW12 (I have ordered another Monster subwoofer RCA cable, so for now only my original sub). WOWIE WOWIE WOWIE! Oh, it'll be a little bit before I can try that new (to me) Acurus amp; I haven't found a preamp to suite me yet. Too cool. I think I just got sticky... D!
  13. Hey Richard, Wow, Greenback! I could hit you with my empty beer bottle from my house (though I would never do such a thing...)! Thanks for the pic complement. Yep, that is actually me (well, 60 more lbs of me than I am today, I'm proud to say!). I actually live in Lenoir City. North side, near Melton Hill Dam. A Maico, huh?! Wow, where the heck did you find that? Surely you didn't live in good 'ol Greenback when you had that? I have a bit of a unique dirt bike as well; a '99 TM 300 Enduro. No, not a KTM (though I have a couple of those as well), a TM from Italy. It's fun. Maybe we can hook up some time and talk dirt bikes while drooling over klipsch speakers. What a crazy night that would be, huh?! Keith, sorry to digress on your original topic! Just getting to know the bunch and introducing myself. D a.k.a. soupamoto
  14. Neato black Academy. I'm listening to mine as I type (and read)! D
