Questions about RS42's benefits and placement

Hi Everyone,

I was thinking of getting a set of RS42's to go with my RF82's and RC62. My question is, what is the benefit of a surround speaker like this versus a bookshelf speaker used as a surround speaker. I would have to mount these speakers on the left and right walls about 4 feet behind my listening position (see X's in diagram). Is that ideal with this type of speaker? Or am I better off with a bookshelf?

Welcom to the Forums!

that should work just fine. a bookshelf in that position might not work as well. who know though. you may have to get one set and try it out. i bought some rb-61's and am trying out rs-52's to see which is better. the RS series speaker is a very good one. it should do the job just fine.

you may get more responces if you posted in the Home Theater section....

Placement looks good, its usually recommended to have them a little closer to you, maybe a couple inches behind your head but at least you're putting them on the side walls rather than behind you like many mistakenly do.

Side surrounds are recommended to be speakers like the RS rather than the RS series. THX and Dolby labs both recommend wide dispersion side surrounds rather than direct radiating ones.
