whitetrash84
I bought two RB-61 bookshelf speakers off EBay, they were shipped in the original packaging that arrived looking unharmed. I opened it up and found this. I am assuming that the box was dropped, and the magnet/motor structure broke off the back, it was not like this before the seller shipped them. The other speaker shipped in the same box is fine. Cabinets and grills are in mint shape. A couple of pieces of plastic broke off the crossover coils from the magnet flying around inside the cabinet, but appears to still function. The tweeter is un-harmed. Anyone else ever seen this happening? Who makes a woofer basket out of plastic?
michael hurd
I would contact the seller ASAP and get him / her to file a claim, you did get shipping insurance correct? Re: woofer basket being plastic, it's less expensive than aluminum, and does not sap magnetic strength like stamped steel. It also holds up well unless it's dropped really hard. Aluminum baskets can break, steel baskets can deform. There are also magnesium baskets, not as common. If you don't have shipping insurance, call 1-800-KLIPSCH, I am sure a replacement would be in the neighbourhood of $ 50- 70 or so.
jdm56
Who makes a woofer basket out of plastic? That ain't plastic, man! That's a proprietary space-age co-polymer...dude!
whitetrash84
Haha I work at an injection molding plant, in the quality dept, I know all about co and homo polymers. I called Klipsch on Friday, to order the woofer. Checked my email to make sure the shipping info was correct, and they had ordered a tweeter? Called back and got the woofer ordered, but it was in stock transfer so they could not guarentee me a shipping date. $47 shipped.
