tolle45958
OK, so I like home theater, I also like to listen to my two channel stereo. Question is, will a 18w/channel tube amp be enough power for my K-horns during high powered movie seens?
CECAA850
Does it get loud enough for you now? Are you planning on playing it louder during movies than you do with music? Will you be using a sub to take some of the load off the K-Horns?
tolle45958
Yes, it gets loud enouhg now on a 150w ss amp, but like the warmth of tubes for music. Will be using a sub.
Istari
On Kornerhorns 15 watts is more than enough. Especially if you have a capable sub and have it crossed over at the right frequency.
Guest " "
It depends on what I would call power supply recovery. If the amp has a decent power supply, low powered amps will sound fine. If the power supply is marginal, the amp will stress. The architcture of the tube amp often is no help. Since in push pull amps, you can get away with smaller power capacitors (hum will cancel out), power supplies will tend to be on the slim side. I had a 25 watt tube amp which had 4500uf's of filtering the the power supply that resulted in the sound carrying well......and I had a 120 watt tupe amp that had 600ufs of power filtering that did not sound as well as the 25 watt amp. Most small amps pulled from consoles will sound like a bird flew into a fan, at high volume levels.
