Tube Amps

It depends on what I would call power supply recovery. If the amp has a decent power supply, low powered amps will sound fine. If the power supply is marginal, the amp will stress.

The architcture of the tube amp often is no help. Since in push pull amps, you can get away with smaller power capacitors (hum will cancel out), power supplies will tend to be on the slim side.

I had a 25 watt tube amp which had 4500uf's of filtering the the power supply that resulted in the sound carrying well......and I had a 120 watt tupe amp that had 600ufs of power filtering that did not sound as well as the 25 watt amp.

Most small amps pulled from consoles will sound like a bird flew into a fan, at high volume levels.
