"Jumping" Rear Surrounds

I've just recently upgraded my KG 3 front mains to a like new pair KG 5.5's. My A/V room is configured with small white Klipsch rear surrounds (don't have the model handy) which are ball joint mounted hanging off the ceiling to allow precise directional sound placement. Overall they've performed well, but my curiosity got the best of me the other night after my better half retired for the evening, so I tried a little experiment - she still hasn't noticed the 5.5 upgrade. Man I love being married to a woman that has no interest in my A/V toys!Pulled the KG 3's back out and put them up on the 15" stands they had been on up front and placed them in the rear corners of the room. This lines them up perfectly at ear level behind the main king and queen rocker recliners that we use for media viewing/listening. Since the small rear surrounds were stripped wired/screwed down, I was able to make an easy connection using a couple cables with banana plugs at both ends and "jump" them directly off the ceiling mounted surrounds for a quick test. Not surprisingly this arrangement sounds terrific! With a few adjustments on the old Harman Kardon, things were balanced out. I'm finding that the rear surround performance has a much better spatial presence than ever before. While this may be breaking some theater purist rules, I really like the sound and have always tended to just go with what sounds best to my ears regarding speaker placement – just never thought of using an extra pair like this. But for movie sound tracks it sounds fantastic. So I'm thinking about sticking with this set up and routing the "jumper" cables from the ceiling around through the walls to finish the job off clean. Question is; am I risking any damage to any of my speakers or equipment (the speakers are powered off a 125w per channel AVA7 JBL power amp) by using this "jumper" approach?
