DIY New La Scala Crossover

Recommended Posts

This is the original crossover in my 33-year old pair of La Scalas. It still makes my speakers sound incredible.

I would like to build a new crossover with a modern look, detachable and more natural sounding. Any suggestion for parts is welcomed.

The look is irrelevant. It has no bearing on the sound or performance. Inductors don't normally deteriorate. Replace the capacitors with equal values; buy tighter tolerance (+/-5%, +/-2%) so you don't have to test each one. If you listen at low levels, disconnect one of the diodes bolted to the little plate to prevent tweeter distortion in some situations (but that makes your 2 watt K-77 tweeters vulnerable to burn out). They will sound quite wonderful like that and the cost is low. Parts Express and Madisound will have good to gret caps for sale.

FYI, a 10 and a 3 uF cap in parallel adds to 13 uF, so does a 12 and a 1.
