Benji
Hello all! I just became a member of this forum to get your opinion on which sub I should buy. My current set of speakers is an Audioengine A5, which is 2.0 and goes down to about 60 HZ. I have a couple ideas on what I want to get, but I'd like to hear what you guys suggest as well. I mainly listen to music (rock, some new age), so I want something that will be have tight and musical bass. However, I also play games. My max price is about $200, so the Yamaha is a bit expensive. But I like the music\gaming modes. Volume is not that important to me. Sure, I want it to be able to crank out some volume, but not ear-shattering levels. I prefer quality over quantity, but if it can go that loud and maintain quality, that is fine with me. I also have plenty of space, so size isn't much of an issue. Here is what I found: http://www.amazon.com/BIC-America-430-Watt-Down-Firing-Subwoofer/dp/B0000Y2WYS/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top http://www.amazon.com/Dayton-SUB-120-Watt-Powered-Subwoofer/dp/B000C9NV78/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009CDYF2/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller= http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00009W8XH/sr=1-4/qid=1261422992/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&qid=1261422992&sr=1-4&seller= Do you like any of my suggestions? Do you have one of your own? Please post.
jtubbs6117
First Beni welcome to the forum, I have some experience but there are members here that contain a wealth of knowledge. I favor Paradigm subs, the PS series is a great sub for the money and you can see them sold on ebay all the time. Sound is great for music and movies. These are the models i would look for PS 1000 and PS12000. But remeber with a sub the rule normally applies you get what you pay for. Benji
Thanks for commenting! I looked up both of those subs, but I can only find the PS1200 for sale used for >$200 on Ebay, and I can't even find the PS1000.
TheEAR
Please be advised the Paradigm PS series are band pass subs, great for movies, explosions, general sound effects. They are however poor for music duty(too one notey for my taste). The PW line is great, the Seismic 10 and 12 are very good subs, even better the Servo subs they make and made in the past. Like the classic Servo 15,one of the cleanest, best sounding subwoofers at any price and unmatched in its price class. The RSW15 from Klipsch is another example of clean, low distortion subdoing well on movies and superb for music.
Benji
Thanks for the info about the PS series! I think I'll pass on those. However, the Klipsch sub costs $1000 on Amazon... What website do you recommend for purchasing audio hardware? For some reason I can't find any of these subs for sale (other than the Klipsch). What do you guys think about the BIC-v-1020? It has some awesome reviews, and I found it for only $158 after shipping!
