I bought a new pair at best buy years ago for $1000. They lasted along time untill the rersistor or board went bad. Does anyone know of an average price? astrallite
Wow, the PC speaker market must be really bad if you can resell multimedia speakers that high. Or maybe as they say, there's one born every minute?
Desarae_az
The guy who is selling the speakers wants $175.00 for a fullset Sub,satelites, and controler. I still have my original satelites, and controler packed away in a box. The main thing I need is the sub woffer and the amp. After my sub's board went bad I threw it in the trash. I heard that the sub should of been built with some sort of fan since it gets so hot in the woffer box. Desarae. []
razzz42
If you buy the system, I'll take the extra satellites if you don't want them, of course, at a fair price.
nashbridges
$50 bucks. The entire thing works because of the amp and control pod, and the amp has an alarmingly bad failure rate. The speakers are great, but unless you do what I did and get a new amp and receiver to power them, they become useless pretty fast.
Desarae_az
I bought a used set of Klipsch ultra 5.1.5 from Ebay for $286.00. I guess due to the economy ( just guessing) there are a lot of Klipsch ultra's for sale on Ebay. Anyway when I received the set that I purchased they were in perfect shape. Knowing that the Sub Woffer's circut board generates a lot of heat I installed two Tornado fans from Vantec inside the sub box on the front wall facing the circut board, and wired them into a dual switch reo-stat so I can adjust the fan speed and the air flow. When the speakers are not in use I turn the power off so the circut board will not overheat and maybe I can get a longer life from this set. I know there are better built and better sounding speakers out there but I still love the Klipsch's. If this set ever burns up a resistor or anything else that is cheap to re-place I will take them to a place to get them repaired. Just my two cents though I would let peeps know that there are some Klipsch's floating around out there.
razzz42
I bought a set of working Ultras and took out the panel and sent it off for an upgrade and a fan befroe it even thought about failing. It was either now or later because especially one daughter board that is buried deep always ends up frying along with the electronics on it. A guy from Ebay replaced what normally would fail (due to heat) and upgrades what might fail and/or Klipsch known upgrades added while Ultras were still in production. Then he adds a fan over the daughter board which should at least relieve the hot spot, couldn't hurt. No complaints in comments about his work and he's done over 200 subs. I have a post on this board where responses say they upgraded the center/satellites to Klipsch Quintet III (newer model is IV) 5 piece keeping the Ultra sub to drive them, thats how much they appreciate the Ultra/Bash sub. If you think stock sounds good then one can only imagine what Quintets joined with the Ultra sub sound like. This Ultra/Bash sub is the cleanest, hardest hitting, efforttless sounding thing I've ever heard even at low volume. As always, you need a decent sound card to make all the difference in world in the sounds produced by this speaker system, to do it real justice. Enjoy. Desarae_az
Can you tell me who you sent your panel to so that I can get mine upgraded so that my new sub amp board won’t fail? I love my Klipsch’s and I still have all of the satellites from my original set that I bought at best buy in 2003. Any help that you could pass along to me would be greatly appreciated. Thank You Desarae.
razzz42
Start here at this Ebay listing where he writes quite a bit about working on Ultra subs and cooling results.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230462039264&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT .... then just contact him through his listing about doing an upgrade. Somewhere he says that it is not uncommon to replace about 20 parts when he's upgrading an Ultra sub plus adding a fan.
Desarae_az
I just wanted to say thank you for the info on the guy (Henry) who does the upgrades. I sent my sub circuit board panel to him for the upgrades. He did a wonderful job working on them and great communication also. My husband even commented on how my sound is clearer now. If there is anyone out there that needs or wants your Klipsch system worked on I would highly recommend getting them done by Henry. mw8ks
I Think you could have fould them for a better price I did I got mine for 75.00 $ 's at a pawn shop a works great!
Desarae_az
I am happy for you for getting a great price it pays to shop around. Klipsch speakers are great speakers, but they do have a flaw from manufacturing where they produce to much heat in a enclosed box. I would suggest going to this link and buying the upgrade kit so you will have many years of great sound. If your not good at electronics this person named Henry can do the upgrades for you. He did mine and they work great and sound even better than they did before. Here is the link http://cgi.ebay.com:80/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230476782396&ssPageName=ADME:B:FSEL:US:1123 Desarae. Kingart
I, too, have had Promedia 5.1 Ultra Sub Amp go into low hum (like a bad ground or reversed +/- (a distinct possibility). and I'm feel especially computer illiterate attempting to "find Henry" using the above link. (Had copied the underlined and pasted into address line of IE) Anyone out there have a more direct/or old fashioned way to reach him? airjer
Yes please provide a more up to date link for this Henry guy... both links are to auctions that have ended instead of directly to his seller ID. My Klipsch's have began to hiss and have an annoying static noise... maybe he can help me out!
