I just got a new computer with built in 7.1. running Windows 7. When I plug my 4.1 into jacks 7 and 10 which is the only combination
that will work, the front two speakers are not in stereo, in fact, they
are mono to each other. Has anyone else ran into this problem with the
4.1? If so, were you able to get past it?

1 - USB 2.0
ports 1 and 2.
2 - S/PDIF optical output port. This port connects an
external audio device.
3 - IEEE 1394 port. This 6-pin IEEE 1394 port
provides high-speed
connectivity for audio/video devices, storage peripherals, PCs, or
portable devices.
4 - LAN (RJ-45) port. This port allows connection to a
Local Area Network (LAN) through a network hub.
5 - Video Graphics
Adapter port. This port is for a VGA monitor or other VGA-compatible
devices.
6
- Center/Subwoofer port (yellow orange). This port connects
the center/subwoofer speakers.
7 - Rear Speaker Out port (black). This
port connects to the rear speakers on a 4-channel, 6-channel, or
8-channel audio configuration.
8 - Side Speaker Out port (gray). This
port connects to the side speakers in an 8-channel audio configuration.
9 - Line In port
(light blue). This port connects a tape, CD, DVD
player, or other audio sources.
10 - Line Out port (lime). This port
connects to headphones or a speaker. In 4-channel, 6-channel, and
8-channel mode, the function of this port becomes Front Speakers Out.
11 - Microphone port
(pink). This port connects a microphone.
12 - DVI port. DVI is
a standard for connecting computers to digital
monitors and provides a pure digital video signal to a digital
flat-panel display or projector.

13 - USB 2.0 ports 3, 4, 5, and 6. These
four 4-pin Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports are available for
connecting USB 2.0 devices

Connection 10 would be my choice. However, if you want stereo out, you must go to the soundcard control software and choose the output to be stereo.

In multi ch mode, the card will send FRONT out connector 10. Then you must make sure the decoder in the audio player is set to stereo. Left as front, if may try to send it out pro logic wich could make the FRONT sound like mono.

Just a guess, but thats my 2db.

Connection 10? What is that?

The jack labeled with the "10" in the picture in your original post.

That would be where you plug in your "front" speakers, wheras "7" is where you would plug in your 'rear" speakers.

As Trey pointed out, you will probably need to go into your sound-card settings and tell it that you got a 4.1 set plugged in.

I've had no problems getting my now ancient set of v2.400s to work on a modern computer.

I am having the same problem. I had all my speakers working but when I updated my realtek drivers for some reason I cannot get the woofer and rear speakers working again. Tried rolling back the driver and it did not work. Now I forgot what I had to do to get all speakers working

I'm using WinXP and a Gigabyte MB, GA-EP45C-UD3R with a Realtek ALC889A codec.

Any suggestions?
