runninshine
Hey guys I just bought a ksw 300 for 50 bucks. It seems cool but man there is this audible hum that is driving me crazy. Is there any way to stop this hum? I read somewhere that an unshielded sw cable will cause noise but even when I have no cable hooked up and the amp is on the noise is still there. runninshine
.....I also read that if I cut the grounding pin off the plug that will get rid of the hum. If so, is it safe?
michael hurd
.....I also read that if I cut the grounding pin off the plug that will get rid of the hum. If so, is it safe? NO. It will not be safe. Devices that have 3 prong cords are that way for a reason. Other devices that have 2 prong cords are built differently. You need an isolation transformer to get rid of the hum correctly. It will give you signal to the sub through the transformer, but stop the flow that causes the ground loop. ( no direct electrical connection from in-out on a transformer )
runninshine
Ok, I am doing some searching now for an isolation transformer now.
runninshine
if the noise I am hearing is 60 cycle hum I should be able to get rid of the noise by running a wire from a grounding point from the sub to a ground on the receiver and the noise should go away. I ran the wire and hum is still there.
