jspsc123
Hi I am having trouble with my quintets distorting. I am getting a crackling sound with explosions, lightning, gun shots, etc. I can hear the distortion at all volumes but the louder it is, the more distorted it sounds. I have pushed on all the speakers and hear no crunch. I took the front off all the speakers and all the wires seemed to be ok. I have tightened all the screws to make shore nothing is loose. I have been using a gunshot in a video game( Unreal Tournament 3) to test the speakers. In the sound fx menu I can replay the same gunshot over and over. Every gunshot sounds horrible. When I switch to my tv speakers, through the receiver, it sounds fine. I can turn my tv speakers up to 80 which is really loud, without the sound distorting. My receiver is a yamaha rxv465. All my speakers are set to small. The cross over is at 120hz. I set the EQ to off. I have rotated all the speakers to every channell and they all distort on all channells. This is my second set of quintets, both sets have the same problem. I brought my speakers and receiver online at the same time. When I first got them I noticed something was wrong right away, so I sent the speakers back, thinking they were bad. Now I dont know if its the speakers or the receiver causing the problem. Right now I dont know what the problem is and need help. thanks
CECAA850
Do you have access to any other speakers that you can try? I wouldn't think 2 (or 3 if you can try something else) sets of speakers would have the same issue.

billybobg
I've got quintets upstairs in my family room and love them. Are you feeding them from the tv? Sometimes the volume coming in from the source is too high and distorts. I try to have the source volume as low as possible when its adjustable. It's not always possible, but routing the source into the tv and back to the receiver is sometime done and if the volume on the tv is high then issues can occur. Also, check other inputs into the receiver (DVR, CD, etc.) to see if the sound reacts the same. Finally, check all the output modes: theatre, sports, large hall, etc if these are an option.
