Does this sub come with the KA-1000-THX outboard amp, or do you have to purchase it separately?

If you buy from Klipsch, the amp and passive subs are sold seperately.

So the subwoofer, without amp, costs $1499.00. I did see the amp on the accessories page. It sells for $1499.00.

So it looks like the complete sub/amp combination costs right around $3,000.00.

Wow, 3K for an amp and 1 enclosure! I'd be tempted to shop for used if you absolutely have to have that particular setup. 3K can buy a lot of woofage.

Well, the most expensive 12" sub with on-board amp from Velodyne lists at $2600. So this places the klipsch version a bit higher.

The Velodnyne is a very feature rich sub.

I don't need a sub at the moment. I was just scoping out the field.

I have a Velodyne FSR-12 and it is about 12 years old. Still working fine, but I did have to send its amp back to Velodyne once for repair.

you can buy the KA-1000-THX and then build one or two DIY subs for much less, the trick is finding a source for the special NL2 speakon output connections to the amp, I was able to find a local music shop that carried them. I then built two 15" enclosures using rockford fosgate power T1 series, I have auditioned the klipsch thx subs and they are awsome, but mine are every bit as awsome plus some, and I built them both for less than one of the klipsch subs.
