lynnm
The Ruby's are highly regarded by many who use them in guitar amps and if Cary Audio is shipping the amp with them you can pretty much assume they are a decent tube. I recently picked up a matched quad of Ruby EL34's on Ebay for U$ 22.00 ------------------ It is meet to recall that the Great Green Heron rarely flies upside down in the moonlight - (Foo Ling ca.1900)
JoshT
Jeff, What do you think of the Rocket 88? I am thinking of getting one for my bedroom system (in which I would use it, alternativley, for Heresy IIs and B&W CDM1SEs). My local Cary dealer does not have a demo unit out yet. What system are you using it in? With what preamp? Thanks for your advice. Josh
Allan Songer
The Ruby is a "specially selected" (lol) Chinese KT-88. Nothing special, but ther are few alternatives without spending $$$$$$$$$$$. Have you priced NOS GEC KT-88s lately? Have fun--I have heard very good things about your new amp!
jjhaz@ont.com
Thanks for the input. The rocket is still burning in so I don't want to say too much. I had a Sonic Frontier Power one SE that after a week of burning in sound very good. I know some people say it's not tubey enough. I was swept into the Rocket 88 out of fear that I wasn't getting a tubey amp. Well the Jury is still out which sounds better. The Rocket is coming along I will keep you in touch. By all accounts it should be great! I talked to a guy from Cary who use to work for Klipsch, we had a great time talking. He suggested puting 2lbs of soft modeling clay on the mid horns for all of us with Khorns, La Scalas, Cornwalls, well you know the models. He said he stopped some ringing that was inharent to the large horn. I'll give a complete report on the Rocket 88 Monday night. Still want some tube suggestions.
