i don't think promedia help will do much good here since these are quintets.

you may need to buy a new speaker, don't know if putting in a new tweeter would void the warranty... i think it would. but if not, call the parts department, that number SHOULD be in my signature.

I think I might just wait a little while and buy the RB-5 II booksheft speakers, I can wait a while you can't here much difference in the sound considering that the 3.5" woofer in thoes speakers doesn't have a very good crossover cut off point, the cut off for the woofer is 17000hz and the tweeter is 3500hz (high pass). I ran a sine wave through them thats how I know. I kinda wanted to get the RB's to start with I use the quintets for my computer, I run them with a 100 watt stereo amplifer from pioneer. When I bought them I just got a pair for clear stereo, but I wish I got something with a little more than a speaker with a 3.5" woofer and a heck of alot of noticable port noise, also while playing an instrumental song by Inspection 12, at round 60 watts per channel RMS (100 watt RMS rated), I noticed that the woofer had almost no voice coil cooling and almost fryed, I saved them when i started to smell a burning type smell, like you get when you burn up one of thoes little r/c motors or something, I felt the dust cap it was pretty hot, although the speakers are very good high quality, very nice binding posts and the stands are great. but I guess the reason why the sold the quintets in a package with matching center, surround, and a ksw-10 or 12 sub is probley because they are really ment for watching movies and not playing music really loud.

I just though I'd cruse around the Kipsch web site a bit and see whats on it so I glanced in the Listening Lounge area and clicked on the audiophiles speak section and I saw this .

Bottoming

At extreme volumes, when the voice coil smacks into the back of the pole plate it creates a very unpleasant sound similar to the sound of snow crunching under foot only much, much louder.

It reminded me of the time I had a pair of Optimus speakers, thats the name radio shack puts on speakers they sell but they were really made by company in Germany. They had a 3"x3.5" mono pole tweeter and a 7" poly woofer, what great speakers they were, just one slight problem, it was just a little one, you couldn't really put more than 20 watts of power into them with out the woofer smacking the pole plate, and what a loud *** sound it was, I sware that the smacking noise had to be least 120db it was so damn loud, the only way I could listen to them was to turn the bass way down then they sounded like crap, I soon got rid of them when I cranked the volume knob all the way around, "POP" blew the voice coils out the front of the speakers through the tiny 1.5" diam foam dust cap. I still have the tweeters though, they are rated at 160watts RMS (240 max) 6 ohms responds from 3800-24000hz, and has a 98dB spl, and they look really really cool, they are 3.5" wide by 3" high with shiny riben in the middle that gives off the sound, pretty high tech stuff. I might build some speakers one day and put them in em.
