Technics receiver and KG4's

I am setting up a 2 channel system for music only. I picked up a pair of KG4's on CL and have hooked them up to a Technics SA-390 receiver that I bought new in 1986. I want to get the best sound from the KG4's so I started by replacing the caps in the crossovers with Sonicap from Crites and I plan to put in titanium diaphrams, if they ever come in.

The Technics has pre outs and I was thinking of adding a separate amp, do you think adding an amp will make much of a difference?

Thanks

Welcome Cyto, we're glad your here.

The simple answer is....... YES!!

Which amps are you looking at? If my memory serves me, the KG's like power, lots of power. [:P]

You'll probably want to replace the Technics eventually, to a better pre-amp/processor, but adding a two channel amp is a great place to start. [Y]

Thanks for the specs!! [:D]

I was thinking of an Emotiva UPA-2, I have 2 of their subs in my HT system and love them. And what is even better is that their headquarters is 20 miles from my house. But I do not have to get Emo.

It will be later this summer before I can get an amp (birthday in August) and I am certainly open to suggestions. If I can find a good used deal I can probably talk the wife into an early birthday present.

Cyto,

Welcome to the forum.

I found this little setup that might get you by for a while. I had the exact preamp/amp setup with my KG4's for a while it it sounded great. As the ad suggests, do worry about the lower power rating, NAD rates their amps very conservatively. Just a thought for little $$$.

A couple more suggestions.
