alaya
So I just found my right side KG 3.2 speaker sounds boomy and has no highs. I thought that's the 15+ year-old speaker wires, so I switched the left/right channels but with no luck.HOWEVER, when I put the banana plug into the binding post, the tweeter somehow worked for like 5 seconds and then again, boomy sound. I changed a contacting point on the binding post, then, about 5 seconds of clear sound, and then back to boomy sound.I already have some new 12AWG wire and banana plugs on order, but what seems to be the real problem? Do I need to replace the right tweeter? Thanks a lot,TP
cyto
I would check all the connections in the crossover first, could just be a bad solder joint or wire connection.
Cal Blacksmith
Yep, what he said. Check all the connections, not just the ones at the Xover but dont' forget the Xover when checking[] Others may have different views but I tend to think that wires, for the most part, don't wear out. Plugs can get gunked up and need to be cleaned and marginal solder joints can fail but the metal in the wires tends to stay OK. Yes you can get corrosion on the wires under the insulation but you did not mention that as a factor. Most speaker wire has clear insulation so you can see those problems very easily. I have had everything from 16 ga RATshack 25 year old wire to new, super soft O2 free 10 ga between my amp and my speakers and honestly, I really couldn't tell the difference. That is not to say that others cant but that is my history on the subject. []
