Differences in tweeters lenses

Recommended Posts

I got the chance to hang with Dave Harris a bit today. He is work on
a 3 way Cornscala, his Eliptrac 400/ Faital HF200, his custom tweeter lens,
Eminence 15C and crossovers by ALK. (2way/3way switchable on the fly).

When I first dropped parts off at Dave’s he was showing other
projects to me and showed me his 1” tweeter lens… I thought it looked bad ***
and asked if it could be used on my speaker. Today Dave gave the Selenium
HM17-25 a listen versus his tweeter lens. This was the Selenium HM17-25 +
Selenium 220ti screw on vs his lens + Selenium 220ti bolt on. When I spoke to
his on the phone he said they measured the same, but they sounded night
and day different. I had been driving 3 hours and really thought I wouldn’t hear the diff,
but still wanted the circular horn anyway as it was so cool! He did a A vs B comparison… the Selenium
HM17-25 was played alone vs his setup… my god the difference was not night and
day… but far beyond…Never seen home 1 singular part could make such a
difference. The lens is the shit… Very happy it will be included in the
Cornscala.

Ive used the Selenium HM17-25 in my current 3way cornscala and
love them, but this comparison was mind blowing… now how to integrate a 2nd
set… I promised the wife after this no audio purchases till after the year. :-(

Justin I was just as surprised how different the tweeter lenses sounded. I only built 2 pairs of these, the other I sent to JWC.

These Cornscala's were started several years ago by forum member Jorjen. I recently drove to Norther Ca, to see Jorjens amazing KOA Jubilee's, and ended up with a truck bed full of Cornscala's.

I decided to disassemble and modify the top hats to accomodate wrap around grills.
