sub12 port rattle

I just bought a sub12 off of craigslist. I listened to it before I bought it and it sounded fine. When I got it home and started cranking it up, it sounded horrible. I ended up pi pointing the problem. When I would move the port it would make the same noise. I ended up pulling the port out(it looks like an oversized toilet paper roll with two black caps on both ends). Im hoping if I can use something to adhere it back in place, it will solve the problem. It almost looks like they used hot glue or something. I was leaning toward silicone. Any suggestions?

The sides and braces are all rigid, the port should be also. I've also heard that the fumes created from silicone curing could damage the driver. I've never read any difinitive papers as to whether that's true or not. It may be one of those urban legends.
