audiophile03
I just picked up a pair of these in great shape but do look all original. I heard that these sound much better with some upgrades. What upgrades do you all recommend for these and where would be the best place to buy the upgrades without breaking the bank. Thanks! Guest David H
Welcome to the Forums. The upgrade for the H2 is available from Klipsch directly, it upgrades your H2 to an H3. As I understand it is a signifigant improvement. Dave
mustang guy
Welcome to the forum! Those are some nice speakers as they are. You may find you love them as they are. I would not butcher a Heresy speaker by doing anything to it other than the Heresy II -> Heresy III upgrade you get from Klipsch parts dept. If you want to experiment, find somebody who has parted out some Heresy's, and buy the speaker empty. Love your Heresy's, and they will love you back my friend. Groomlakearea51
The least expensive and most cost effective "upgrade" is to replace the capacitors if they are over ~15 years old. Second most effective upgrade is to replace the tweeter diaphragms with "titanium" types. Third is to replace the old K-24 woofers with either a new K-28 (used in the H-III), or a CW1228 from Bob Crites.
Islander
The Heresy III upgrade is very worthwhile, but is meant only for 1985 and later Heresy IIs with the square connector cup at the back of the cabinet. It's not a direct fit for the earlier models with round connector cups. The H-3 upgrade includes a new K-28 woofer, new squawker/mid driver (uses the existing mid horn), a new tweeter horn and tweeter (with titanium diaphagm), and a new and more advanced crossover. That means everything inside the cabinet, except for the mid horn. The result is a 2dB improvement in sensitivity, from 97dB to 99dB, plus clearer mids and deeper bass (63Hz improved to 58Hz). I upgraded one of my Heresy IIs to use as a centre speaker and was very happy with the results.
audiophile03
So how much is the upgrade kit that you got Islander? That sounds like a worthwhile upgrade.
Islander
The price is around $300. It's very worthwhile. If you call Klipsch parts, they'll tell you how or where to order it (or them).
audiophile03
Really, only $300? I think I may have to pick that kit up.
Guest David H
Really, only $300? I think I may have to pick that kit up. I think it is $300 per speaker, and worthy of the coin. Dave
audiophile03
That may be my project next month. Right now, I am in the process of trying to decide how and which color I am going to refinish them. Anyone have any recommendations on how to refinish veneer?
