Image S4i: Rated number one by Consumer Reports

That's nice, but I wouldn't exactly consider Consumer Reports to be any kind of real authority on what sounds best. Now, I own the S4A, and it's my personal opinion that they don't sound nearly as good as the Etymotic Research er-4p. In fact, CNET rated the er-4p higher in several critical areas over the x10, which should certainly sound better than the S4. I think the S4, as well as the Image One's I own, are extremely bass heavy. At any rate, the S4 is nice, but I don't know how in the hell they can justify a #1 rating.

Here's what Consumer Reports says regarding home audio loudspeakers:

"Although passionate audiophiles might spend well into five figures for just a pair of speakers, you don't have to pay a fortune for decent sound. Our recommended bookshelf speakers cost as little as $90, and go up to $340, per pair. Our top-rated 5.1-channel system, from Energy costs just $400 for four satellite speakers, a center-channel speaker, and a powered subwoofer."

Back in the day, they down-rated a Porsche due to its lack of trunk space.

EDIT: Didn't see the link Alex posted for the review. After reading it and seeing the limited pool they used for the comparisons, it's easy to see why the S4i came out on top.
