ZombieWoof
McMaster-Carr sells it as well Works great ! as it smashes quite flat I use on back speaker panels , used it on my CS-1.5's to seal around the horns will be using the stuff on current re-build of my CornScalas best part is does not de-grade at all lasts for years [<)]
mustang guy
This stuff works great, $3.57 and enough to do two Lascalas: http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-100210956/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&keyword=vinyl+foam&storeId=10051 It is kind of like memory foam. It is not rubber foam, it is vinyl foam. I used it on the last two Lascalas I worked on. The stuff smashes down very nicely.
Quiet_Hollow
I'll have to wait and see how the 1/16" works. That's the OEM thickness and I'd like to keep them as close to stock as possible, but it goes without saying the thin stuff doesn't provide much material for following an irregular surface like where the screws pull into the base ply. That, and after having disassembled this piece twice now, I'm not all that thrilled at how the entire panel is fastened. [:#] Got the new gasket in place and am punching holes through the material to prevent the screws from grabbing and distorting it all to heck like before. Using a piece of sharpened brass tube... Quiet_Hollow
Leaves a clear shot for the screw.
ZombieWoof
I use the 1/8" X 1 & 1/2 " from McMaster-Carr that fills the voids very well I cut it skinnyer if needed , saves me from having 2 different sizes if you have a void over 1/8" then use wood filler That's great idea on using a hole punch , I hadn't thought of that . . . . . :-)
Quiet_Hollow
Got one main speaker all fastened down again. Leak check using 9V @ 25 Hz was good. [Y] Air tight for another 22 years. [8] I'll update its twin the same over the weekend. I found that using a strip of masking tape and dabbing that on the old, left-over adhesive worked really well at removing the gooey stuff from the wood. Time consuming and took quite a wad of tape, but it left a good clean surface for the new gasket to adhere to without the use of harsh chemicals. ZombieWoof
using a hair drier [while doing the masking tape above] to warm the old adhesive will speed the process . . .
Quiet_Hollow
using a hair drier [while doing the masking tape above] to warm the old adhesive will speed the process . . . Agreed and that's exactly what I did. Got the other one re-taped, checked, and buttoned down. It was in much better shape to begin with..perfect really. A shame I opened it in retrospect, but I wanted to confirm that the driver hadn't begun to leak any, and to ensure the bottom panel gasket wasn't a mess like the other. Clean up was a cinch as there was hardly any glue left behind this time around. All good to go. [Y]
