Deang
I'm surprised I haven't noticed until now, but when I put my two Superamps in "Standby" tonight, and turned off the light for bed -- I noticed that the tubes were still "lit" on one, but not the other. When I flip the "stand-by" switch on my just aquired DJH version, the tubes seem to die out softly, while the blue power light on the amp remains lit. When I do the same on my other unit, the tubes stay lit up. Well, I guess one of them isn't working right, and I will take a guess and say the non-DJH version. Did I guess right? leok
deang, Standby may have been implemented differently on the two amps, and may be functioning perfectly in both cases. I would expect "standby" to remove high voltage, but you wouldn't see that unless your amps use tube rectification (and even in that case the rectifier filiment might remain on). Reduction in heater power is another "standby" possibility, and the amount of reduction might determine whether or not you can see a glow. The manufacturer should be able to give you accurate info. I'm sure they'll want serial numbers to track revisions. leok
mobile homeless
Leok is correct here. Dennis Had has also been trying different things with his standby as they found the tubes were wearing faster in standby mode via the Super Amp. With Chris' version, STANDBY removes all power to the tubes and ONLY keeps the power supply warmed up. Call Kirk at AES/CARY and ask him what is up. Have the serial numbers or date of manufacture ready. He is very helpful. It's better to call than to email as the response time is sometimes slow although he DOES respond. kh ------------------ Phono Linn Sondek LP-12 Valhalla / Linn Basic Plus / Sumiko Blue Point CD Player Rega Planet Preamp Cary Audio SLP-70 w/Phono Modified Amplifier Welborne Labs 2A3 Moondog Monoblocks Cable DIYCable Superlative / Twisted Cross Connect Speaker 1977 Klipsch Cornwall I w/Alnico & Type B Crossover Links system one online / alternate components / Asylum Listing f>s>
