thebes
The following is excerpted from a Bethlehem Records sleeve: (boldfaced and quotes are from the record sleeve) Bethlehem Records, "leaders in Live Sound Reproduction" ...what to expect from your new Bethlehem Record: ...superb sound is possible only on high fidelity equipment. Extensive factory tests have ascertained Bethlehem sound reproduction to be at 50 to 15,000 cycles per second or better. Bethlehem Records are recorded at standard low volume level, thereby eliminating the necessity of tampering with volume controls. Bethlehem Records are recorded in studios having a standard "liveness" quality...Note the sense of "presence" of solo instruments, and over -all "live" sound of the entire performance. Rarely is any mechanical echo applied. The sound you are hearing is the natural sound that existed in the studio at the time of the recording date.
