Cal Blacksmith
I have not bought tops in a long time though I suppose I should, The ones I did buy, I put pads under. Not so much to prevent slipping (which is reason enough) but to let the air get to the top wood so it can breathe. There is little danger of water marks or plants being placed on my speakers but if there is a remote potential for it, by all means do the glass. A glass shop is best. Today, I may be tempted to use Plexi but it is softer so scratches will show much more. The other side of the coin though is that it can be cut on a table saw with a plastic blade and you can replace them inexpensively if they are damaged. They will not break either if dropped or something is dropped on them.
