jwgorman
I took my original K55Ms off this weekend for my Atlas driver swap out experiment and on one I saw this. They still work and sound/measure ok. Any ideas?
moray james
from the look of your picture that like it is some rust due to moisture which got into your speaker and wet the steel dust screen. You can clean it off no harm done. Best regards Moray James.
WMcD
My guess is that it is ferro-fluid. I've read that it can be forced out of the gap if the units are played hard. OTOH, that makes little sense because the gap is on the other side of the diaphragm. Also, I'm not aware of Klipsch using ferro-fluid on the K-55. And the OP says it is an original unit. If you touch the stuff, is it still semi-liquid? WMcD
djk
Hi, you still at the Rock? It's a dab of the glue used to hold the bug screen.
jwgorman
Thanks guys!!! DJK, I'm glad to hear it's not a catastrophic failure. No longer at the Rock, I left 3 years ago and work for Wabtec, it's a railway electronics company in Cedar. What about you, still at the Rock? You know, just the other day I had a random memory of you, me and Jackson at the A.R. playing the Sheffield Drum Record on Khorns at SPLs waaay passed all human reasonableness. Good days...I still have that record BTW.
djk
Still pounding gravel at the Rock. "playing the Sheffield Drum Record on Khorns at SPLs waaay passed all human reasonableness." Still won't play as loud as a real drum kit though.
