prodj101
Hey, I was just curious if a noise sounding somewhat like "wiff" is normal on a subwoofer. I can only hear it if I put my head practicaly on the cone, and turn the volume up to a pretty loud level. ------------------ -Trevor
TheEAR
I dont think this is NORMAL,I blasted my RSW10 a few times and never had any "wiff" noises. Play a 20Hz test tone at higher volume and listen again.KNow most drivers do make mechanical noise, this should be covered,if noise is heard someting is wrong. Maybe Feret Hump took a bite, who knows. prodj101
it could be from distortion because this is at the volume where the driver is moving around an inch in each direction. At normal volume levels (70-85 decibles), there is no wiff sound, it only gets the sound up around 95 db or so. ------------------ -Trevor
killerbee_vr6
Try moving an inch back and forth 20 times per second and see how much noise you make. It's normal at those excursion levels. ------------------ Gabe '83 La Scala birch raw '93 Chorus II black '94 Forte II oak oil '93 kg3.2 oak oil KSW-15 Ksw-200 SW-

prodj101
no, the sound is not noisey at all, barley audible. we're talking about ear on cone not audible, so I guess it's not a big deal really, I was just curious if other peoples did it. the only time it's audible is when it's at the volume levels that killer bee noted. ------------------ -Trevor

kenratboy
Yeah, the DIable Valley is my home! But I am happy in Reno. Hey, my house got up to 111 this summer, not fun. The irony? The AC was broken. Took the cat over to a friends house and went to the mall!!! ------------------ Receiver: Sony STR-DE675 CD player: Sony CDP-CX300 Turntable: Technics SL-J3 with Audio-Technica TR485U Speakers: JBL HLS-610 Subwoofer: JBL 4648A-8 Sub amp: Parts Express 180 watt Center/surrounds: Teac 3-way bookshelfs Yes, it sucks, but better to come.
